  1. Thanks. My passenger tells me he's closer to Smyrna than Lebanon which I had suggested. (And FltPlan shows M54 has highest fuel cost of the 5 airports.) But the other 3, M33, MBT and SRB are all between $4,01 and $4.12 vs. $4,45 @ MQY. I'll be buying about 20 gallons so difference is less than $10. I'll run the alternatives by him.
  2. I bought an Aspen because I could not depend on the old Narco HSI. I bought a GTN 750 because I could not depend on a KNS-80. I think I've read that the mtbf for the modern boxes is higher than the stuff I was flying with in the '60s, '70s, & '80s. I know the new gear is many times more capable! I have had my panel of new gear for 3 years with zero squawks. In the 9 months I had the plane before upgrading I had to repair 4 different radios/instruments. Give me the really clever stuff for cross country (IFR) flying, you can keep the antique stuff.
  3. In my opinion based upon a lot of experience and expressed in more than one MS threads, a Stormscope is more useful than XM weather for avoiding dangerous weather. I have ADSB weather (NEXRAD, etc.) and a Stormscope, both are useful as they show different information.
  4. I think I'd stick with a KX155. Repair or slip another one in the tray. I do fly IFR and my #2 NavCom is a reliable KX155. I also have a GPS696 which would be useful in an emergency even IFR and more than adequate VRF.
  5. Can you create a checklist on fltplan using a PC and access it using fltplan go the cell phone?
  6. I only travel first class.
  7. That's not the way I remember it. I was thinking it was 12", 10" legroom and 2" more baggage. But I may be wrong, again. Check out the note for the '66 Executive. http://www.mooneyevents.com/chrono.htm
  8. B26's F theoretically has 10" more leg room in the back seat. But he's about 10" taller than I am so as you can see I can fit 3 of my lady friends in my E. Where's his pic of himself and even one of his "beauties" in his roomy F?
  9. Or GLAP which I found to have better pricing and a wide assortment of tints and thicknesses.
  10. Yeah, we dimpled the skin and countersunk the plexi behind the dimple.
  11. Talked to them (my A&P uses them all the time) but they only have molds for older Mooneys - thru F, and I needed a J windshield. I paid quite a bit more @ GLAP but I got what I wanted. Lynn used Cee Bailey Solar Grey and Dark Grey on the Maule he just finished rebuilding. I think the sheet goods come from the same producer and CB or GLAP just cuts and forms. My A&P's work: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.856549354421022.1073741829.610511435691483&type=1&l=63b2a03e4f
  12. We (re)dimbled the skin. A few needed to be upsized to 10s from 8s due to previous installation.
  13. Nattering nabobs of negativism. Next time I'll get the ladies to take a pic of the back seat leg room they have and get it notarized.
  14. I'll be in and out of KMQY a couple of times next week picking up and dropping off a passenger. I'll need fuel. I see there are 2 FBOs: Smyrna Air Center & Corporate Flt Mgt. The latter lists a better fuel price on FLTplan.com. Anyone have a preference/pirep?
  15. You'll need a WAAS GPS. And something like a GDL 88 (which is not visible in the panel.)
  16. Will do. Everything is prepped to install next Monday. The solar grey is pretty lightly tinted, and transparent panels do not photo very true but I'll be anxious to document all the work.
  17. I've never had a complaint from a back seat passenger in my M20E. Here's a recent trip with 4 full size adults, over 5 hours in 2 legs.
  18. The GLAP windows are sized and formed to fit. They drop right in place without modification. We did have to trim a corner off the lower back corner of the rear windows a little where rivits interfered. (The windshield, which in my case was their M20J since I have the SWTA mod, required some trimming.) Caution: you do not want to create stress in the acrylic. This means you want to drill holes a little oversize and you would not want to tighten the window into a bind if the shape doesn't match the frame.
  19. Toymaker, I don't know if you know that Mike is a very experienced Mooney instructor who is often called on to ferry Mooneys. He works out off FL but is not limited to his home area. If Brandon is unavailable I would recommend you talk to Mike about getting your plane "home" and possibly working with you on an intensive transition program.
  20. Too many windows to be an E. I think he calls it a F/J.
  21. I think you really need cross ventilation in Auburn. http://www.glapinc.com/Mooney/M20CDE/m20-1965.htm#Door
  22. Pete, I am in the process of replacing windows all around including windshield. Should be finished Monday. I bought from GLAP. The door, pilot windows and rear windows are pretty straight forward but if you're paying a mechanic to do a turnkey job I suppose it's a 2, maybe 3, day project. In my case, I've done all the dumb stuff, removing interior and old windows, cleaning window frames of sealant. Lynn fitted, drilled, and taped the new windows, I prepped the margin for sealant adhesion. Lynn will mix the CS 330 and we'll install with new screws. I will clean up and reinstalled interior. None of the side windows needed much cutting. To the labor, add $100-$200 for new hardware and sealant. BTW, I went with 3/16" all around, solar grey, and vent windows in both the pilot window and the door. (My old rear windows were 1/8".)
  23. +1 on our friend Brandon NeSmith who works out of KMRN as well as KHKY. He's flying jets for Comcast(?) now but still does instruction and ferrying as well. Has a lot of Mooney experience.
