Paper charts? Seriously?
-
I am curious as to how new Acclaim and Ovation sales have been materializing, now that FAA certification has finally been received. It would seem that there should have been some pent up demand for the new models. That is if two doors was really the answer. Hopefully they are selling. Success of the factory is obviously on our best interest. Any info out there?

Thanks folks. Jim

I am planning a vacation trip to Singer Island (Palm Beach Area) next month. I am interested in any observations you may have regarding local GA airports/FBO's. Fuel prices have already been obtained and are easy to update so due not need that info. Jim

Same exact situation for an M20R. Plus a leading edge touchup. Interested?

For those of you whose primary care doc has signed off on BasicMed, congratulations. Mine has refused. I provided all of the supporting info from AOPA and tried to engage in a dialogue with said doc. He had a closed mind from the start and never gave it any real consideration. So, before I schedule a Class 3 exam with my AME I thought I would see if anyone on this forum was aware of any Docs in NE New York who are performing BasicMed exams. Thanks for any help.you can provide.

W&B was an easy load but it would sure be nice if there was an Ovation checklist preloaded and ready to be modified as necessary. Jim F

Thanks Mike, very helpful.

I am looking to acquire an IPAD case for both cockpit and general use. One consideration is the MYGOFLIGHT CASE. Any observations/evaluations of that or other IPAD cases would be appreciated. Thanks Jim Flynn

I 100℅ agree. Cirrus has a significant marketing advantage with the BRS system. Money needs to negate that advantage.

New additions to the GTN 750/650
Aviator replied to donkaye, MCFI's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I am starting to feel good about my GTN 750/650, GTX 345 configuration with Pilot on an iPad. Not sure my wife will feel as good when I tell her I want to Invest another $1500 for a Flight stream 510. PS:. Great marketing move Garmin. Jim -
Glad to hear dealing with the FAA was a non event and inexpensive. That was a concern. I like the idea of vinyl numbers but would probably still paint the background. I will definitely research that option. Will also replace the little N number placard on the panel, although dealing with a changed call sign is not a concern. Thanks for the comments. Any suggestions on paint shops in the Northeast?

I am considering an N number change for my aircraft. I would be interested in any comments or suggestions forum participants would have regarding my latest irrational idea. Any experiences, pros, cons, suggestions appreciated. Also I am looking for recommendations of a good paint shop in the Northeast should this project go forward. Thanks in advance for your comments. Good question Cruiser. At least initially I will keep XM weather running on the 750/650 and ADSB weather on the tablet, while I evaluate and compare the weather products. Additionally it will provide backup for the maps and charts in the panel. I also have paper copies of appropriate approach charts for an IFR flight.

My Ovation is getting a GTX 345 installed this week. Already in the panel is a 750/650 combo. I am looking at compatible EFB options and considering Garmin Pilot running on a Samsung Tab S 2. Any thoughts/ comments will be much appreciated.

Judging interest in developing a BRS system for the Mooney fleet
Aviator replied to Tom's topic in General Mooney Talk
The initial posting on this topic stated that Mooney International had other priorites than the "chute" at this time, for either new aircraft or the existing fleet. I believe that, in the not too distant future, any airplane manufacturer that wants to compete with Cirrus and sell a significant number of small aircraft will need to provide a whole plane parachute. If that happens to be Mooney a retrofit program will probably be developed for the existing fleet. I also believe that, over time, the sentiments of existing fleet owners will become more pro-chute. But, what do I know? Jim -
Flight Planning with 1800wxbrief

Thanks for the recommendation. Makes sense for me and I will try 1800WXBRIEF next. Have tried most flight planning options and continue to look for the best solution. Jim -
Judging interest in developing a BRS system for the Mooney fleet
Aviator replied to Tom's topic in General Mooney Talk
I would definitely give strong consideration to installing a BRS Parachuter's on my Ovation if available. It probably will not be available in time as I will soon be selling the Ovation and moving to Cirrus. Two reasons; increased utility at night and mainly as an alternative for my passengers should they need it. In addition to cost and useful load I am concerned with the impact on the skin of the aircraft from a drag and esthetics perspective. But if it were available now ithe "chute" would get strong consideration Jim -
Back up charts/navigation in Glass Cockpit
Aviator replied to L. Trotter's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Late to the comments but he goes anyway. I have an Ovation 2 with a GTN 750 and 650 with the Garmin standard package at $972 and a GDL 69 for XW weather on both. For backup I use an Ipad with FltPlan Go. FltPlan Go has been great it gives me what I need for backup and as noted above its free. The IPad sits on the right seat when I am solo or on a kneeboard when the seat is occupied or in turbulence. I do print paper copies of instrument procedures for departure, destination and alternates. You will love the Ovation. -
Did I miss it?

I am pleased that Mooney Airplane Company has been has been purchased, capitalized and risen from the ashes. The new owners and management appear to be doing the right things to make it possible that Mooney becomes a success story. Success is in the best interest of all Mooney owners wether or not we will be purchasing a new airplane. Thus my questions; Have the steps Mooney has taken resulted in actual sales of M20's? Does anyone have information on actual sales? I recognize that much of the investment and development has a long term focus. Short term success is important also. Jim F

KI 256 Attitude Indicator- Repair or Replace
Aviator replied to Aviator's topic in General Mooney Talk
Looks like overhaul is best option for me at this time. Glass would be nice but budget won't allow at this time. Thanks for the comments.
