  1. I assume Aeroshell #7 grease is a synthetic product. It would make sense if it was as synthetic lubricants are way less viscosity sensitive.
  2. Great comments. All make sense.
  3. Tried to reach you by email but have not heard back. Are you still interested?
  4. Belly still available. Price is $1500. That is what I paid for it minus shipping.
  5. I picked up my new iPad tonight. I ended up going for the larger one but last years model per advice from this forum. I got the GPS and 3G also. I compared the size of the mini vs the std and I really think I will be able to read the std screen a little easier. I asked about the speed difference from retina to old and was told I probably wouldn't see or notice any difference. I forgot to ask that question on the forum. I imagine I may update in a couple yrs and by then maybe I will go for the mini or maybe something better will be out. If Apple would expand the screen to fill the entire front face, it would be great but now I think it may be too small for me.
  6. Thanks for all the info. It looks like a toss up as far as the mini vs original ipad with the mini having an edge. I like the idea of the fit with the mini but I like the large screen also as it is just easier to read, especially if you are bouncing around a little and you've also passed the sixty year old number. I wish I had both to tryout. Thanks for answering the cell phone tower connection also and needing the gps wifi 3g is great advice. I imagine I'll make up my mind as for the size at the 11th hour.
  7. My wife decided to give me an Ipad for my birthday. I had mentioned it would be nice to have one for flying purposes. So, do I want the latest and greatest or last years model ipad or what? I was told once that the new ones inhale too much data and your monthly bills would go up but talking to the Apple people this morning, they said it doesn't work that way. The folks at the Apple store couldn't give me much info on how any of the aviation apps work. They expressed concern that the ipad might only work at low altitudes and there would be lots of dead spots between cell towers. I don't think this is the case but thought I would get better answers from the folks on this site than the people in the Apple Store. I'm not real brilliant when it comes to computer technology. Any good insight or recommendations?
  8. You're right on the cab skin not carrying the load and I can see it moving relative to the steel frame. My thoughts have been to insulate all the skin areas with the appropriate foam sheets but double up if necessary or at least put enough between the skin and the steel tubes that would dampen and absorb any vibration in either the tube or the skin. I would think it would need to be a lead foam or something very dense that could actually absorb the energy. Does this sound plausible? By the way guys, I have yet to fly in my Mooney. Hopefully it will be back in a month or so. In the mean time I am trying to get smart on the items I know I will want to improve.
  9. You might have something there. I would imagine the steel frame is a great telegraph from engine etc.
  10. Where does the most most noise originate in an older Mooney and what is the best method of reducing it substantially.
  11. Good thought, Dave. I would have expected a dog to put up a fuss with ear plugs.
  12. I haven't seen what Sporty's has to offer but I would think a concern would be, can the dog pull it off with his pawl? It would be best if it was comfortable and secure. Kind of hard to judge the effectiveness but almost anything pressing on their ears has to be better than nothing at all.
  13. Our dog of 16 yrs had to be put down about two years ago and now my wife is bugging me to get another. We plan on doing a fair amount of flying between Cincinnati and Denver and also Phoenix. I am concerned about destroying the dog's hearing if it travels with us.. I know my instructor some 35 yrs ago used to take his dog up all the time and that dog could not hear at all back then. So, has anybody fitted their dog with any sort of hearing protection??
  14. Is that the plane from Denver that auctioned last month?
  15. John I'll pass that phone number along. Nels
  16. Maybe the guy is just realistic and just wants to unload it. Somebody must know something about it.
  17. I have no pictures but I'm sure he could get some to anyone interested.
  18. I hope this is ok to post on this site. If not, let me know and I'll take it off. I've been talking with my cousin about Mooney's for the last year or so and he is now looking for one. However, he is cash poor but has a Cessna 195 radial project to trade. The plane is a real descent in process airplane, It has a zero time prop, zero time Jacobs 330 hp radial, paint stripped, interior out etc. No corrosion, some hail dings on top wing surfaces but fuselage is really straight. Probably a great plane to finish out if you like the old Cessna radials. It does look pretty cool sitting in the hangar. Just thought I'd throw it out there. He might even consider a Mooney project of some sort but I'm sure he would prefer one ready to go. Let me know if you're interested and I'll hook you up.
  19. Spruce quoted $484 for a remote unit. I guess I can do a lot of combing for that price. So, I guess a used one is a good possibility.
  20. Oil cooler ok and for sale?
  21. Any idea on cost? Mine is a 65 E model.
  22. The fins on my oil cooler look pretty bad; like it went through some hail which bent over all the fins. I may try combing them oiut but would prefer replacing it. Anyone have a spare?
  23. I sent you a private message
  24. Antares, I just sent you two PM's. Nels
