  1. Anyone have any suggestions for this? I see the bracket is riveted. I would have taken it out and either weled it or cut out an overlay of it, but since its riveted, can't really do that! Option 1: JB weld and hope for the best. Option 2: try to drill out rivets and fix the bracket and use rivnuts or sheet metal screws. Option 3: ? Option 4: ? It never ends! After looking at it again, I can always drive an oversized sheet metal screw and washer it up. Any suggestions welcomed!
  2. Looks very good!
  3. Sent, PM'd you the tracking info!
  4. Yeah, hopefully it will buy me enough time for the used G5/ Dynon units start coming out.
  5. I also have a KI 214 that I will give to you as well, not sure if it works, but for around $500, you should be able to fix it and have GS.
  6. Pay it forward because of what people on this forum has done for me.... it was choppy, but could be due to bad wiring, but otherwise it works and I am willing to give it to you. People on here are so good to me, I'm just a broke person trying to piece something together and MS has helped me out alot. Now is time to return the favor! It's yours! All yours! If you cant pay shipping, I got that covered too!
  7. I just found a guy with a really nice unit and he is giving me a $600 towards my 2 bad units for a total of $1000.
  8. I know no one cares, but I am writing to document this so people can look it up in the future. I reached out to Sandel and they said they believe its a LCD issue and it was going to be a min of $2000 to fix. Since I had 2 units, I decided to pull them apart to see if I can put together a good working unit. Both the units had delamanted LCD screens. I looked up the part and its hard to find. I am sure the part, if I could find one, would be no more than $100, but yet Sandel wants $2000 and they will not sell me the part. These LCD screens seem to delaminate over time. My options at this point is a GI-106 or buy a Sandel for $1600 which the display looks good, but I am sure the delamination process has already started and its a matter of time. I am kind of at a loss on what to do here, but I think the 106 and adding a vacuum DG would probably be the best and most cost effective solution. I have a 420 which is the same as the 430 without the nav board and a KX 165. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better or cheaper solution?
  9. I know it will not work for VOR/Loc on a KX 155, but I think the KX165 has the digital outputs. Do you think it will work with a 165?
  10. Gotta love Mr. Fox!
  11. I pulled apart the roached, spare that I have and that eye behind the light bulb looks dirty, but wont clean with a q-tip, I suspect that its some sort of corrosion. I reached out to Sandel and waiting to hear back from them. On the one I have installed in the plane, its a little pixelated (not a word), but my main issue is with brightness. I suspect if I add a dimmer pot on that one, I should be able to get another 5 years out of it.
  12. Well, tomorrow I get to help with my first autopilot install. The avionics guy offered this as a paid job, but because of MS, it's a pay it forward job. He was impressed with my panel and he is offering paid jobs going forward. Right now I am nothing more than a sponge, but it's cool knowing that someone, who is knowledgeable is willing to pay me based off of what I have already done. I love aviation, and I am so happy to continue learning, and paying it forward. Thank you so much for your guidance! I dont need money, but I do, but I dont. I am all about paying it forward for what you guys have done for me...Thank all of you for helping a broski out!
  13. The people of MS has helped me for than I can describe, but I am all about helping others as well. Everything that has been done for me, will be paid forward!
  14. I cant thank you guys enough for helping me get my plane back where she needs to be....In the air, I have had issues with the stuff I bought, in which alot of it was botched, but members of MS are righting the wrong of another person's doing and this bird is getting back to where she needs to be. I cant thank you guys enough! I cant wait to post my new adventures of having a sound airplane and I am looking forward to reciprocating what you guys have done for me to another person that is in the same situation as I am. Paying it forward is now in full effect! If you guys saw my inbox, you would want to cry tears of joy and you would know that humanity still exist. Love you guys and I cant wait to post our new adventures!
  15. I think I am going to do a top gun next!
  16. The funny thing is, I had some people, who probably never been in an airplane before, think that this was me flying the 787.
  17. I think I am going to do a top gun next!
  18. Yeah, it's nothing fancy, but its 1000 times better than it was before. I didn't even have a working VOR before.
  19. Yeah, I bought an induction boot off of him. He is s good guy!
  20. Before this plane had power issues. Every time I would fly it, something would go out. The wiring was old and crummy. The intercom had crummy wuhan wiring that was deteriorated and had exposed wire. The radios crackled during the whole trip. Then I met this avionics guru who was an AI, A&P and an avionics engineer/troubleshooter for FedEx. He sold me: GNS 420 24v Dynon D2 KX 165 24v KMA 24 Sandel 3308 with Gyro, Fluxgate Compass And this thing was going to be IFR ready. Some of you guys are scratching your heads wondering why I didn't get the newer stuff (G5's and Dynon were not certified at the time). He sold all of this for $6500 providing I do the install under his guidance. I learned a lot. My plane is rewired and much more capable. The 165 is roached, it doesn't even have a SN plate. The repair station that fixes these spent 8 hrs trying to isolate the problem before they gave up. Now my Sandel's display is kindof roached, but better than what I have. But my rocket scientist, physicist l, avionics engineer is on a 6 year leave of absence in Costa Rica. Now I am stuck with what I got. Luckily, the people of Mooneyspace is helping me tremendously with the stuff I need to get her to 100% and I thank all of you. Here is the panel before and after. I fabricated the panel on the left using the old panel as a template for outline, screw holes and even instrument holes. I used a band saw, disc sander and free handed all the cutouts by clamping the old to the new with a flush bit router. All I wanted was to be able to get my instrument rating and fly the plane without any electrical issues and have solid radios. I am a few weeks off of replacing the 165 and I can tolerate the sandel until I get an Aspen unit or a better Sandel unit. I still have to fill in the gap above the radio stack, but she is almost complete and I dont have to worry about poor wiring. I practically rewired the entire plane and fixed a lot of janky wiring. The sandals are still giving me some hell. I dont know if it's a bad bulb or what but I am going to take apart the really roached out one to see if I see anything obvious like a misaligned bulb, dirt or a blown capacitor since its already trash anyways. If its something like that, then I will take it to my local FAA repair station for repair and signature. I am excited to get this bird in the air and start on my instrument rating. When the times get good for me financially, then I will start replacing all of this with glass, wass and all the other wants!
  21. I found the pinout for the dimmer. I am just curious if this display is toast or is it just a bulb. I will call sandel tomorrow. I installed all of this under an AI/Avionics guy but he is out of reach.
