  1. I think I found one made by Sky-Tec, I sent it to my AI to see if that will work.
  2. I know the relay I bought from spruce was the wrong one. Its draining the battery when unless I manually disconnect it. Any ideas on a part number?
  3. 1966 Mooney M20C Relay for jumper cable hookup. Does anyone know the part number or which one will work? The one I ordered from spruce sticks open unless I disconnect. Looked in the parts manual and did not see anything. Thanks,
  4. I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Will Advise
  5. Thanks. As far as the panel tilt goes. Keep the top shock mounts, remove the bottom and you will have a perfect tilt. The side piece is from angle aluminium and just measure from the top, down and cut it with a band saw. The tab for the AS and Vertical Climb, I used a template for the drill holes and the hole itself then free-handed the tabs on a router table.
  6. I just traced the old panel onto a sheet of aluminum, rough cut it and then sanded it with a disc sander. Transfer the mounting holes as well and take out the bottom shock mounts and you will have the perfect angle. For the side, you will have a big gap. Measure the top and the bottom and then get a piece of angle and cut it to fit.
  7. Turn fuel pump on, pump 3 times and try starting while finessing the throttle. If you are still having issues, check the mags, plugs and also check the connections on the starter vibrator located below the avionics access panel.
  8. Just do it.... Real simple install. You might have to close in some of the dog house around it.
  9. I don't see where anyone was talking about gear. Do you have any autopilot stuff?
  10. Any autopilot stuff?
  11. Nope, it will eat up the engine paint.
  12. If you are looking for something less volatile than avgas, then you can get a gallon drum of kerosene from Lowes, or you can also use Jet A. It takes a while to dry though.
  13. I used AVGAS for cleaning my engine. The seals in the sprayer will rot out, but its quick.Clean the engine off real good and let it run at idle for a few mins. If you run it at a higher RPM it will blow the oil everywhere and make it harder to find. Check around all bolt holes around the crank case, check all the oil return tubes (also make sure the return tubes are not rubbing against the baffling). I have been chasing oil leaks ever since I owned my Mooney (around 4 years) and here is what I found: Oil return tube rubbed against baffling causing a pinhole. I brazed tube and its fine. The oil pan bolts on the back of the oil pan were loose (towards the firewall). Those were a real pain to tighten. It took flexible socket extensions, swivels and had to keep probing until it caught the bolt because you cant see back there. Just take your time and get several sets of eyes on it with a bright flashlight. Also, the pinhole leak on the return tube was not that bad for around 50 or so hours, then on the ground it started spewing out oil everywhere and thats how I was able to find it. if I was 5 minutes up in the air with that leak, it would have ended up a disaster.
  14. I am doing the work myself with AI signature as a weekend project. Its a lot of work, pulling out old crummy wires, updating the schematics. Plus I have fabricated the panels. I made all the wiring harness's myself. Every time I get into it, I find things that are not right.
  15. Yep I am doing that myself! What was supposed to take two weeks is now 10 months!
  16. Yep, what Mooniac said! My big challenge was finding qualified instructors after my first insuructor would not sign me off. This is not a cessna where you can slam it down on the runway. You need a good instructor that knows how to correct before damage is done to the aircraft.
  17. Luckily as far as flying and wisdom, I had a really good insructor with over 8000 HRS CFI time. He would always let me exceed my abilities, but not his. He would let me make mistakes and he could recover them at the very last split second without damaging my airplane. I am not sure how a low time CFI would work in a Mooney.
  18. I did my ppl in my Mooney. I had a really good CFI that would not sign me off. I think it's because he deals with transient pilots in the Navy Flying Club and was not used to signing people off. After months of searching I found a mooney pilot that met the insurance requirements and he signed me off after the first flight. The main problem you have to worry about is finding "instructors" with Mooney experience. Now that I am working on IFR it doesn't matter because I am PIC. An airplane is an airplane. As far as insurance, I had renters because I haven't "completed" my contract yet (LLC owned the airplane) and when I was done I had enough hours for insurance.
  19. Schematics Sent to your inbox!
  20. Hmm. Was this already hooked up? Once you get the schematics, it wouldnt hurt to pull audio panel and radio out of the trays and check the resistance. I am in no way an expert, I am just doing my own install under the guidence of an avionics guru.
  21. Dont know if this helps or if its even relevant, but I am installing a 430 and its not putting out a signal. The engineer told me to ground the 500ohm audio low pin. Havent tried that yet. I am also installing a kx165 just like the 155 except 24v and has glideslope. If you want I can email you the schematics that the engineer have me for you to cross reference. Also, you are not going to be able to see the numbers on the connector so print one off and use one as reference.
  22. Alan, how much? PM me!!! I bought those seatbelts from you in the past and you are great to work with.
  23. Is it still avail? And how much?
  24. Might be time for a new or newer radio.
  25. There should be a hole on your breather tube. Chech that!
