  1. But at least they start super easy....hot, or cold.
  2. Interesting. First I've heard about it. I am about to start my CFI re-current. I wonder if it will be addressed. One thing I've learned over the years: With the FAA, there's no such thing as a "nice change". All change is painful!
  3. You might take a look at the muffler. A backfire can cause havok with it.
  4. Amen! Biggest bang for the buck in aviation. Interestingly, just like you, I started out looking at "lesser aircraft" when I first started shopping, but soon was impressed that at the price of a C-172/Cherokee 180, I could have my own airliner! I hope your airplane treats you as well as mine has treated me. 17 years, still going strong.
  5. Definitely without the adhesive for most of the job. With adhesive, it won't slide behind the structural steel and into tight areas. I just used a spray adhesive where I needed "sticky".
  6. It was yellow fiberglass in my Mooney, not pink....must be a gender thing. There are several options to replace the original fiberglass with, but the important thing is to choose an insulation-sound absorbent material that will not hold moisture against the steel structural members. Rob, with all your dental cameras, I'm surprised you didn't just use one of those for inspecting your Mooney!
  7. Where have you set the alarm level?
  8. Have we been hacked by the Russians again?
  9. I further suspect that hangared pilots live longer than those tied down outside. :-)
  10. Don, I think hangaring will also prolong sealant life. As a matter of fact (without any evidence, whatsoever), I suspect that hangaring will also prolong the life of bladders.
  11. This is a great segue into a favorite Mooneyspace discussion about tying down the tail!!
  12. The biggest disadvantage of bladders is that when other Mooney owners are sitting around discussing their latest fuel seep/leak/weep, you will have to sit smugley as a non-participant. You will feel so lonely. :-) :-)
  13. I am a big fan of the bladder conversion....now. When I bought my Mooney, I was scarcely aware of them as a feature. As a Mooney newbie, it just didn't mean anything to me that the plane had them.
  14. Your membership in the CB club may be revoked. At the very least you could have asked him to raise his price 15%, so you could make him a low-ball offer of $600! You've been warned. :-)
  15. Contact: cirruspilot@yahoo.com. He will update your 430, or 430w card as often as you like. He'll mail you a card, and then you mail yours back, so you don't need any equipment. He a nice guy and he's very reliable. Pretty simple.
  16. The only time I had to buy through a broker, I got a much greater percentage off "asking" than I have working directly with sellers. After I made my offer, I got the feeling the broker was working with me to convince the seller that my offer was reasonable, but perhaps the broker was responsible for the inflated asking price? The key to me is for both buyer and seller to have a reasonable value in mind. However that does not preclude "bargain shopping".
  17. Great idea! I hate to think of you keeping your Mooney out of the hangar, though....
  18. It is my understanding that flying under class B within the lateral limits of Class B airspace (inside the veil) requires ADS-B (out) compliance. I hope I'm wrong. But is anyone going to catch me?
  19. The GDL 84 is still a long way from the price point I'm looking for to equip my experimental aircraft (no WAAS source) that has a market value of less than $20K. For my Mooney (430W), there are multiple solutions, but there are a lot of planes out there like my experimental. I hope someone comes up with an inexpensive solution. You can buy a handheld WAAS hikers' GPS that receives both US and Glonas satelittes for under $100. Seems like the "chip technology" is available if someone wanted to harness it to a KT-74 much like we use blind encoders for our Mode C. I get the definite impression the manufacturers are trying to pluck the big spenders now and will not come up with the simpler, cheaper solutions until after 2020. Living with my plane under the Class B doesn't allow me the option of just staying out of class A, ,B, & C airspace. Yes, I am a conspiratorialist. And yes, I"m not rushing to equip ADS-B.
  20. I presume the alternator itself checks out? If not, I'd suspect one of the diodes is bad.
  21. Here's a question for you AOA guys: How close to stall, does the stall warning typically sound? I realize that the stall warning does not operate exactly like an AOA, but it operates on the same principle..... Is it 15% above stall in the landing configuration?
  22. Now there's a real selling point!
  23. Yep. Great demonstration. And a nice tool for a primary flight instructor!
  24. Criticizing the use? Not at all. Mine was an open invitation to you and any other advocate to promote, or explain the need for an AOA system for the typical Mooney operator. I'm just being quite candid that for someone who operates their Mooney as I do, I just don't get it. I don't conduct, or even attend university flight programs, but I certainly see where AOA data is useful for such. That is not criticizing anyone. Far from it. I just like simplicity.....
