  1. 7000 hrs, 5000 of it on floats. Only about 160 in a Mooney, `150 of that on my M20F. It's nice to fly to runways and taxi in to a hanger rather than checking for floating logs, boats full of drunken fisherman, and a docking in a 7kt current on rivers full of spring run-off trees. So much more relaxing..
  2. I tried a bore sight after hearing from you guys, Maybe it wasn't bright enough..
  3. That is funny. Of course, it is a King. But I will probably be replacing it with a Garmin
  4. That's awesome! My tach reads 355 hrs. I've got 1038 actual hours on the engine according to the journey and tech logs. In Canada, the log book rules.
  5. I just ordered the Horizon P-1000. Hopefully it is good. I also ordered the cap for the engine to cover the hole from the tach cable.
  6. When will you arrive? I'm landing in Edmonton on the 31st in the evening then driving out to Lloydminster. I'm leaving on the 1st for Victoria (by pickup) but if you do decide to check it out, Austin can show you the bird. I'll be back in Lloyd again on the 5th or 6th. Paul K
  7. If you don't like it, check mine out. Austin can show it to you if I am not yet back in Canada. He has the key to the hanger.
  8. Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll be back in country in 10 days and will contact you folks that have gps units for sale. As far as the owner manual goes, I have the original. The previous owner left me everything including the paint chips and the original Mooney test pilot logs for the delivery.
  9. I don't know if you are considering a pre-buy on my bird, or one of the other ones. Border City Aviation (based in Lloyd) is doing my annual on the 3rd and 4th of February. Drop in if you are looking at the 1967 M20F. I just dropped the price $5000 on the controller. She's a nice bird. Paul K
  10. I redid the entire floor in my bird with aircraft grade vinyl. I prefer floor mats. What I did to make it fit perfectly is take the seats out, and tape a bunch of sheets of paper together after trimming them. Then I removed the whole peice and traced it onto the vinyl. It worked real nicely.
  11. Hi jetdriven, give me an email at heavycrude@hotmail.com if you can. I'm in the jungle now but will be home Feb 1st. I'm interested. With the new style ELT coming, and the windshield mod and speed brakes, buying a new GPS just isn't in the budget Paul
  12. Hi Folks, My Garmin KLN89 just quit. No display. The mechanic says it is grounded and getting power. Anybody have experience with these things? I was hoping for a nice simple cheap repair. I've got to buy a 406 ELT this year. I'll bring it to the avionics shop in February when I get home but if the repair is over $500 I will just use the ipad until I can get a Garmin upgrade.
  13. At least they are opening up again. It does give a guy another option for parts.
  14. Nice Marauder: "overpriced iPad". My bird was painted in 1994 with polyurethane and it still looks great! I have a few impact chips from the "hoppers" but I'll fix those when I put the 201 style windshield in in May. The airplane has always been hangered. I'd favor re-skinning if I had to repair hail damage. I don't like filler. Plus, if I were looking for an airplane to purchase, I'd stay away from one with filler if I knew about it. My opinion..
  15. Yeah that's what got mine. It's easy to catch things here in Borneo. I walk around with Hand Sanitizer in my pocket. Where I'm at, Malaria is a concern. One of our RIg crew just got hemorrhagic Dengue fever and had to be hospitalized. He made it. I just watched a completely stupid episode of "Naked and Afraid" filmed here in Borneo. Ha! Last thing I'd be doing. Hopefully the giant woman owns a Mooney, she lost 30 lbs..
  16. Nice pics Bob, I'm looking at relocating my oil cooler like yours. Back home it is -15 C right now.
  17. Can they do that? I have quotes of $12,000 t0 $14,000 for some of the other folks. But dang they have some nice interior work available.
  18. I kept the ADF but if you are talking about the wire sense antennae, I am almost sure I threw it out. I didn't think anybody would ever want another one, despite how well it works. I'll check into it but don't get your hope up.
  19. I've heard that before. I think they were talking about the co-pilot..
  20. I've been thinking of economical ways to lighten up the airplane and hopefully get more speed. I've pulled out the old ADF including the wire clothesline antennae. I removed an old Narco radio and I even put in a Skytec starter. Total weight loss = 7 pounds.Total cost including new radios = $12,000. So last month, I was sick with an amoebic parasite. I felt terrible. My doctor successfully treated me thank goodness. I researched the causes and was grossed out. I'm planning to get an MRI yet to be sure the shapeless fiend has not nested in my brain. But I work in the jungle of Borneo so I don't always have a choice of what to eat. This month, I'm feeling good and have hit the diet and exercise program not hard but steady. I weighed 240 pounds when i got here. So far I've lost 13 pounds and it's still dropping. I'm feeling pretty darn good lately and that elusive 6-pack is only a couple of inches down there.. Not only is my weight loss nearly free (I'm using a relatively tame dietary supplement) but it has the advantage of reducing exposure to amoebas (I skip supper), lowering my blood pressure, and moving my center of gravity while flying back just a little to the good. Total cost = $79 (supplement) I really need to get down to 200 pounds. Not only will that increase my feeling of wellness, but it will decrease my gross weight the cheapest way possible. I'll be buying a treadmill when I get home in February Paul K
  21. I fill up right to the rims. Then I go away for a month and the airplane is parked in a nice heated hanger. When I got back last time I put about 2 gallons in to top it up again. This is normal. No fuel smell or leaks my mechanic fixed those up real nicely. I have wet wings..
  22. I thinking of moving up to a Bravo or Ovation. It is tough selling an F especially these overpriced Canadian ones. I'm at the stage where I'm planning speed brakes, windshield mod, panel mod, and a Garmin 530 upgrade. I'm thinking just take a loss and trade up. I sure like this old beast and it gets me around at about 155 to 160 mph on about 10 GPH. I'll see what the finance man says and start shopping... Hopefully my wife doesn't kill me
  23. I just had the autopilot rebuilt by Kevin at Brittain. I've had the airplane for 3 years and it has never worked. Now it works just fine. Only $417 later. I can't think of too many airplane parts that cheap. I think this one is actually slaved to the ILS too. Nice. I'm thinking of a few upgrades and then, after 29 years of VFR flying, I might actually bite the bullet and get my IFR. Keep the PC is is nice. Paul K
  24. It was worth a shot thanks for trying. I'd be ok with a turbo'd model with a bit of a less than perfect interior as long as the mechanical is sound.
  25. I've got a nice M20F in good running order. I just need more speed and range. Anybody out there looking for a cheaper airplane to fly? I'd consider anything that does more than 175 KTS. Lets make a deal See the airplane here at http://www.controller.com/list/list.aspx?ETID=1&catid=6&Manu=MOONEY&Mdltxt=M20F&mdlx=exact&setype=1 It's the black on and the registration is C-FUYY. It will have a fresh annual in February and the autopilot just got overhauled. You can also email me at: heavycrude@hotmail.com Regards, Paul K
