You seem pretty sure the garmin cut off for the gfc500/600 will split between the m20k/j and maybe down half the j line. I don’t know either way
-
I correct myself. Looks like -gfc600 is 23k -the a36 is not in their stc queue. But v35 is and say are several Cessna 210 models. The p210 is not and people on beechtalk are saying it’s the pressurization which is the issue. You would think if the T210 is covered by thegfc500 the so could m20k. But then they didn’t include a36... this may be more of a marketing thing though selling to people what they think they can afford. so it appears to me now gfc500 looks fantastic, plenty robust enough if the above are covered and generations ahead of all autopilots from the analogue era. but most likely ... garmin and the Faa will be certifying exactly one autopilot of the gfc500/600 and we will not get to choose between them as individuals. i would almost surely go dynon over gfc600+ g500 even though I like the features more on the garmin autopilots more.

That is a good point but aren’t they in process of certifying the gfc500 for the bonanza a36? Which is heavier than my m20k. And despite mine is faster I do believe there is more kinetic energy in the a36... esp the tornado alley mod turbo normalized version which is impressively fast. I don’t know / but my impression is the gfc600 is really for faster heavier airplanes like a Cessna 421 or maybe even a king air c90. I wonder if the 600 will be available on the 600. My impression is if gfc500 is good enough for a36 then if the Faa blesses it for the m20k then that’s good enough for me. i will go with whatever the stc says. If I can get a gfc500 then that’s what I would get. If I cannot but the gfc600 is available then yes I would likely get that. but now if you are throwing the g500txi into the mix yes for sure it is nicer but also significantly more expensive. from my memory - equipment only the gfc500+dual g5 is 11k. Gfc600 (20k) + g500txi (17k) = 37k plus a likely big price differential for install. So 28k difference plus more difference after install. I’m not saying it’s impossible I would go whole hog but it’s clearly significantly significantly more expensive for the step up.

That’s my thought - if the 660 can be physically fit say just to the right of the certified instrument it would not be officially there for anything but “unofficial” situational awareness.

Ugh! Don’t show me that! I’m flying into that at 1115 am this morning! Commercial to bwi connecting the den. Anyway wish me (them) luck!

Yes I have a kfc200. Very good ap. The digital autopilots are better. Straight and level, esp, etc. anyway a kfc200 is expensive to maintain when a part goes south so when it does I would sooner pitch that toward new. But meanwhile kfc200 is very good and as long as it keeps going I’m perfectly fine waiting a year or two....

We are agreed. Now for software updates in the G5. My guess is they are marketing - meaning it can do more and they will release more when they figure the market is saturating or some external pressure forces them. I have a hard time believing that my iPad can do a superb implementation of Garmin's SVT inside of Garmin Pilot App (and likewise the Foreflight version) and that either the G5 does not already have a processor capable of it - or if not - some relatively standard hardware update from an engineering standpoint - a new chipset - couldn't do the job, and wrapper it as the G6. Actually for me - its what's happening with the digital autopilot revolution which is driving my pause on any other panel updates until it becomes clear what is available and what hardware is needed for it.
-
Other than svt - which yes is super nice - it looks mostly the same to me. Except g5 is cheaper - but I would only buy dual G5 as part of a GFC500 install. ...and I already have a superb AOA - better than the one in the aspen because mine is mounted on the glare-shield for easier use during late stages of flight - landing - when I am looking at the runway during the last few seconds of flight. And mine talks to me in English if I am getting slow. So for me the AOA in the aspen is not a feature I would buy. ...when will Garmin come out with the g6. It will be a g5 with svt.

I can't figure out why they never bothered? I would have purchased the DFC90 several years ago if it had been available.

85 Mooney Missile ...Damaged left wing- $50,000
aviatoreb replied to BobAustin's topic in Aircraft Classifieds
Can someone explain to me - how a wing can be damaged like that at the root and the frame is not likely damaged? I am asking - not suggesting. My intuition says it would be a point of worry. -
I was referring to Aspen as old tech. Still functional., still nice, and I would definitely keep using it if I had one already installed. But I would rather not spend the money today to install such an old tech. I would sooner get something more modern. Or cheaper. Or best of all both. If I were AOG, then yeah - I would change my tune. But right now I am crossing fingers and holding out for the next generation.... But I am no longer in the mood to overhaul my KI256 Swiss watch stuff anymore. I love the concept of it.....but its time to retire these goods as soon as I decide what I want. As of what I know today - I would be choosing between GFC500+dual G5 or Dynon goodies.

I get why people would get a Garmin 500txi - its beautiful. Expensive but beautiful. But why would someone get a second display to simply use it as an engine monitor when you can get a separate dedicated engine monitor for massively less - like an edm?
-
They need new hardware to survive the future. Even if it were mostly the same form factor / perhaps new hirez screens and new processors. Even if cheaper I’m reticent to consider purchasing today New ten year old tech.

I thought I always wanted to be an airline pilot!,

Ooooh I just read that whole thing - it was painful. I mean can't the 70 year old guy at least have an air-conditioned apartment?! -

Is the wing in Saddam's bunker too? -

So that kind of torque on a wing bolted to the frame won’t that torque the frame too? (I’m staying at the best western on Sunday...) -

I think it may be still a reasonable thing to buy? 30+K to buy a new wing r&r. 35k for prop strike inspection. 5k for whatever I forgot to mention. 70k+ 55k(asking - bargain down a tad) and you have a nice ready to go Mooney. But not a bargain. Reasonable. For a person that can do all the work themselves, a lot better deal. I have heard of wings for as low as 10k? And if you can do the strike inspection yourself?....maybe 30k in parts and your own labor? Then you got yourself a 80k Mooney missile. Disclaimer - I don't know anything and I'm just making numbers up with impressive artificial precision. -
But we agree at least that a plague of frogs would be an aviation hazard?
-
Way to come through buddy! now whose got a plague of frogs? Come on team!
-
What's the metar abbreviation for swarms of locusts? What about plague of frogs? Scary ghosts?

Nobody has anything with some good ol' volcanic ash?

That ain't so bad. She'll fly again. -
I tried to put 3.14159265.... but the Faa said no. I tried to put a million digits on mooneyspace and I got angry mails that told me their browser was freezing. but I’m getting a magnetic dots - 4 dots. 3.14...

Which rules? That we can buy over the counter and do what we want? Or the rule that no one should listen to me because I don't know what we are talking about? What were we talking about again?
