  1. Also this is global not just FAA... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Is your stratux aircraft installed equipment or portable? Portable doesn’t count I don’t think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Not sure I’d count portable equipment... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Not sure, but ATC now has changed their tune and now are regularly giving our phone numbers and allowing at all facilities direct contact for getting clearances even at places where they used to insist you contact flight service. And I have heard folks on approach now opening VFR flight plans without pushback... *drum roll* All this makes it seem almost as if they are slowly winding down flight service.... 5. Media easily mixes up was “on a flight from” and “on a trip from”... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. Do you have position only flights turned on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. If you have to ditch without engine power you need to carry enough extra speed to be able to level off and control how you put it down. That’s why given the video it’s odd he’d say or think he stalled it in from ten feet... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Or not great situational awareness in the flare? Who knows Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Also not sure why he repeatedly said he stalled it in from 5-10 feet. He most certainly didn’t a stall from any height to touch down and continue forward as far as he did smoothly... imho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Um not even life vests over water??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I’d be annoyed. I’ve had my nose gear truss bent by folks who didn’t know about Mooney tow limits... might go have a chat with the manager... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Always call ahead. Billy Bishop can’t be beat for convenience and I can see with the limited space why they have to charge. It’s a bargain compared to say LGA... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Absolutely. They are separate yet interrelated. But no one owes explanations of either here... and trying to bully information with cries of secrecy and no safety culture isn’t a good look for Mooneyspace. Again I have nothing to do with the caravan, and have never flown formation. But I know we are living in a quick, grab for the pitchforks culture which I find disturbing, no matter who is doing it. 15. I’d also add if you think that all an airline captain knows is “how to fly a plane”... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. And an engineer from a prior life with expertise in human factors. So? An Internet forum is not a part of the Mooney caravans or the FAAs process. I guarantee you that. Nor can you reasonably infer anything about them from the discussion here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I agree. However it doesn’t make it any more our right to demand that the people involved somehow have an obligation to be “open” with anonymous people on an Internet forum because somehow this implies a lack of safety culture... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I’m an airline pilot, and know safety culture. You’re really over reaching. The right safety processes including an FAA investigation with hopefully people being very open are ongoing. You are not a part of that process. I am not a part of that process. This group is not a part of that process. That DOES NOT MEAN there isn’t a process. We don’t have a right to butt in when someone’s certificate may be at stake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Speculation is fine by people involved in the activity. So we all get to speculate on general GA accidents and incidents. I am however bored and annoyed by those who don’t participate in a particular specific activity (I do not) speculating about a specific activity (formation flying) that I and they know little about - certainly not enough to have an informed discussion that doesn’t muddy the water in an unhelpful way. It’s not like a formation accident is going to sneak up and get you. Risk mitigation is simple. Don’t participate! So no this isn’t the general “don’t speculate it’s disrespectful” trend, which I often push back on myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Short final. Part of final gear down check. You push it forward in case of go around... that’s my flow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I haven’t participated in the caravan at least not yet. I don’t have formation training, at least not yet. I’m generally happy to speculate on accident causes. I think it’s often fruitful. But I also know without having participated with the organization or without any background in formation flying I don’t know what I don’t know, so I’ll have the humility to listen and learn, because my speculation in this case isn’t well informed. But I can detect the flimsiness of speculation on the part of parties without knowledge of either the organization, it’s policies and procedures, it’s training or formation flying generally. I suspect and hope the FAA will look at all of the above. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I have an issue with the design of the trim system which deadens slower speed feel. Springs? Give me aerodynamic trim tabs... and if you want a plane to go fast, don’t be lame, retract the wheels... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. However normalization of risk is real. What happened when we put seatbelts in cars? We drove faster... Second, no one type has a monopoly on seatbelts or airbags or even chutes. These add ons are relatively separate from the basic design of an airframe which will have its own safety pros and cons. And no design can save you from hazardous attitudes... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. It looks like a beautiful traveling airplane... drool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. That purple one looks really nice. But also consider if you have a desire for anti icing capability/fiki... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
