  1. Has anyone tried the Skyradar ADS-B/GPS reciever? Looks pretty cool. Weather and a reliable GPS. I could sell my aera to pay for it and drop the $75.00 a month to XM. Not to mention the Garmin update prices.
  2. Quote: piperpainter The longest flight I had was 5:45 min/730 NM on standard tanks. I didn't have a tailwind but I was up high burning about 7.2 GPH! landed with 10 gallons left boy i sure love my Mooney!
  3. I use my IPAD with a kneeboard, it also has a clipboard that folds over the top to write down apis etc. . Airguide publications also just came out with a GPS unit for the IPAD that will geo reference all of their charts and airport diagrams and soon IFR plates. Works via wi-fi no connection issues. It also has an aux jack that you will be able to plug in weather on XM or ADS-B soon. I also have Skycharts, Foreflight and Radar's seattle avionics version. I would like to see the Seattle Avionics moving map with the Airguide Gps plus ADS-B weather and I would be happy! Skycharts Though, has a great quick chart interface something Airguide needs to work on a bit. Cockpit usability! P.S. polarized sunglasses are not good for any glass cockpit applications, which sucks because I look good with my Maui Jim's! But an Anti-glare protective film for the IPAD helps and is a must.
  4. I got a quote of 14 aviation maintenance units ($14,000) to install an stec 30. I really really want one!! High on the wish list, so if anybody out there has any extra disposible income or Santa flies a Mooney, it is the Holidays and I've been really good this year!!
  5. These guys can pretty much get you what you need as well. http://www.aviationscreations.com/
  6. Quote: HopePilot Not to change the subject, but how do you like the Powerflow?
  7. On the Mooneyland.com website it addresses mods and his opinion seemed to be the E was the fastest.

  9. Dunno if I flew it, it might get dirty!! Seriously though, it seems like it would be hard to compare because a lot of the later models are stretched heavier more powerful etc. ! I guess an aerodynamic expert with a nice wind tunnel could tell you. But it seams that with a laminar flow wing like a Mooney it would make a significant difference. I have heard though that although the stretched models are heavier they have less forward drag for some reason. I would drill out all of my flush rivets replace them with regular rivets and find out for sure putting an end to the conversation, put with the holidays and all I'm a little busy.

  11. This was part of a post 911 homeland security act of congress passed in 2004. I just find it ironic that you can still rent a ryder truck that you can load up with thousands of pounds of whatever(fertilizer oil etc) without being checked against any lists, park it in front of any building you want and nobody cares. All you need is a drivers license that you do not even need to be a legal citizen obtain. But if you fly a vehicle that weighs less then a Smart Car, can only carry a couple hundred pounds you have to be contained by fences that you need badges to get through, special checks to get a license, now a photo on your certificate. I am not against photos on pilots licenses per se, but it just seems a little unfair. I'll step off my soap box now
  12. The 6 pack really helps if you fly other airplanes vfr or ifr, otherwise its easy to get a little confused. I fly the g1000s sometimes as well but its so different that it doesn't mess me up as much. I think the first thing I would invest in if I were doing a lot of serious IFR is an autopilot or wings leveler.
  13. I had one very much like yours until my buddy asked me if I let my dog control my throttle with his teeth or what. I took the hint but it was a bit sad to let the old one go! Now if I could just get the mixture and the prop controls were they are supposed to be.
  14. A look at the '63 wing and Powerflow exhaust.
  15. Here is one in Stow MA. Wings aloft in Seattle no longer has the Mooney. http://www.tjaviation.com/
  16. Just took a look at the G3 pretty impressive! My avionics shop out here doesn't carry them so I didn't consider them before but will now. Thanx
  17. I sooooooooooo want them!!!! Can't justify it right now, but I have xm and a music jack bluetooth doesn't matter for me. I put a pair on at the avionics store and fell in love!
  18. I like my gnc300xls!! Not as sexy, but gets the job done! I have been looking at the new JPI 730 with fuel flow. EI gets better reviews though. I think the important thing is, do you have egt and cht for all cylinders? Replacing a cylinder because the manifold leak happened to not be on the cylinder with the egt/cht sucks. It also costs more then the gauge that could prevent that. Bottom line is you probably know what you need for your situation and people just let you know what they got so you can compare and see if maybe that could work for you. Everyones missions and finances are different. Your projected panel layout looks awesome as does the 930 and it gets me thinking about what I want to do. Thanx Good luck
  19. I opted for the ASA IFR instrument simulator, it is a lot better for IFR then x-planes and msx. Costs about as much as an hour of training but will save you that easily. Great for on top.
  20. I also have NuLights and love them. A thousand times better then stock! They were installed by previous owner so I so not have a price, but understand it is not much.
  21. I opted for a Garmin Aera for xm and yoke mount, and the IPad for charts and plates. I also purchased a kneeboard for the ipad. It has a clipboard that folds over the ipad. An antiglare screen protector is a must. Air Guide publications just came out with a great app for charts and plates airport info etc. and are coming out with geo ref from an external blutooth GPS.(ipad gps is a little funky sometimes.) I like the ipad for IFR because you can read the fine print on those plates that will keep you from getting burned. Alaska airline pilots are now being given ipads!! I would think it is only a matter of time before someone comes out with a xm receiver for the ipad as well. 696 was a little large for my 63 m20c so I opted for the aera. 696 is pretty sweet though but upgrading the databases can get pricey. Full disclosure: I have totally swallowed the Steve Jobs coolaide ! Hope this helps
