  1. "The tux is rented but the jet is mine." Said to a lineman at a Los Angeles airport.
  2. I found/joined MooneySpace a few months ago. I'm the proud owner of a 1985 Mooney 201 with a Missile conversion. N211ZN is the 7th aircraft I have owned in the last 12 years. My first aircraft was a 67' M20C that I purchased when I only had 70 hours as a private pilot. Due to various reason/projects I strayed away from Mooney and owned a few different Cessnas. I'm married with two children and other hobbies include travelling, scuba diving and shooting (but aviation is what I love to do the most!). I live just north of New Orleans but I'm originally from Las Vegas, NV.
  3. The Missile... I know, not very original, but it sure fits!
  4. I went to Sun-N-Fun last year and had a great time. I'm pretty confident that I will make it again this year. Last year I parked at KISM.
  5. Thanks Jolie! Just received all my FB invites as well. I'll do my best to make a couple of these.
  6. I would love to bring the Missile for this. It's only about a 2 hour (no wind) flight so keep me posted.
  7. At 170lbs, you'll fit just fine! I'm 5'11", 215lbs and a buddy of mine, who flys with me often, is 6'2", 280lbs and he and I fit pretty well. Granted, our shoulders are against each other, but no big deal. Here is a cabin dimension comparison: Aircraft Cabin Width Cabin Height Mooney 201 43.5" 44.5" Beechcraft V35 Bonanza 42.0" 50.0" Cessna 182 42.0" 48.0" Piper Arrow 41.0" 45.0"
  8. When I bought my 201 Missile, I had been looking at SR22s. I called a buddy of mine who owns a Mooney/Cirrus dealership/maintenance shop and he suggested going with the Mooney. He based his statement on the maintenance costs and airframe issues he sees with the Cirrus versus the Mooney. I'm not berating Cirrus, just stating that newer isn't always better.
  9. My father owns a Cessna 177RG, he is 73 years old and pays only $1700/year with a hull value of $65K. He has IFR and twin ratings, approximately 1000 hours and zero accidents. He insures with John Hardon at Aviation Resources (301-682-6200). Good luck!
  10. Ditto on what Mitch said!!!!
  11. I absolutley love my Missile! I have found it to be one of the most versitile aircraft I have flown/owned. I can cruise at a TAS of 186 kts burning 16.5 gph or slow her down to 155 kts burning 10 gph (below 10,000). If you're willing to go to 18,000, you can get 175 kts on 9.5 gph. The aspect I like the most is the climb. I flew out of Shreveport the other day with 75 gallons of fuel, myself at 215 lbs. and about 50 lbs. worth of equipment. It was 5 degrees C, I climbed at 95kts indicated yielding 1500 fpm to 7500 then lowered the nose to 110 kts and held 1000 fpm to 9500.
  12. A buddy of mine is 6'2" tall and around 300#. He routinely flies with me and I have had no issues with the wing or seats.
  13. Which is the apple and which is the orange? :-)
  14. Quote: GeorgePerry Austin, I'd be great if you want to sell you missile in about 3 years! George
  15. George, with your "F" running like that, why would you want a missile? ;-) This is all I'm getting....
  16. Quote: 1964-M20E Hey I’m down here at Lakefront. We will have to get together some time. Where do you keep your plane?
  17. Thanks for the replies everyone! I really appreciate the first hand experiences from y'all. This is going to be tough narrowing it down but I have a little time to do it.
  18. I'm planning on painting and replacing my windows after the first of the year. I live in southern Louisiana so I'd like the chosen facility to be within a few hours flight of my location for convenience. So far I've spoken with Tejas (very expensvie), AOG, and Mena Aircraft painting, but before I commit to anyone, I'd like to hear some recommendations from the peanut gallery. I have tried the "search" function and came up with very little. Thanks!!!
  19. He can't be all that bad.....He used to guest write for Plane and Pilot. ;-)
  20. When I owned a '67 "C", I had the same issue on my landing lights. The landing light switch would actually trip and flip off after approximately 1 minute. I would then have to hold the toggle switch in the on position to keep the lights on. I replaced said switch and that fixed the problem. Being mechanical, they do wear out.
