Quote: N4352H Yes, but they (brokers) serve a purpose. In the grand scheme of J's and pre J's we have a viable place to sell and purchase. No marketing, insulated risk, no answering the phone and timeliness sometimes required to make the deal happen on the aircraft you are trying to buy. This is not quantifiable, but should be considered. The broker we are speaking of here is unabashed about making a living. It's just how much of a living.......and he is aware if one is a hog, one gets "slop". We're lucky to have him. He provides a fair service. And frankly (not to digress), the 1990's are over. The days of buying a 20-30 year old airframe and expecting it to appreciate 8% to 15% will never happen again. Flipping planes every few years will now cost you, thanks to Cirrus and a few others.

i don't mean to inject cynicism into this very utopian thread.....but to all of you who doubt that used airplane sales is not a business of negotiation, then just try to sell your recently purchased plane back to the same broker that you bought it from....then you'll get an accurate representation of it's condition and value. and i'm not referring to the normal dealer markup either. or better yet...get a quote on what those folks in texas will allow you on your pampered bird as a trade in.

Quote: richardheitzman "No Surprise's Written Price Guarantee." Being a Mooney owner for over 25 years myself personally, I know how aggravating it is to pick up or retrieve your aircraft from a maintenance shop only to find that (even though possibly justified), your anticipated bill has nearly doubled (or worse) w/out your having any input, forewarning, or even your consultation! I promise it won't happen here. Unlike most all other shops and A & P's in the U.S., (upon request), we will gladly provide a Guaranteed Written Estimate of all work you have ordered while clearly stating that no extra or additional work will commence w/out your specific authority if said original scope of work and/or charges exceeds said initial written estimate by 10 to 15% max. We will provide you (via fax) or E Mail, a special written Heads Up Notice requesting your approval and signature, if we find your maintenance or mod invoice will result in an increase (labor or parts) exceeding 10% more than the original amount initially contracted. "In fact, we probably put more Mooneys through our Award Winning detail/interior/refurb shop than anyone else in the industry. Want to see a few"

Vortex Generators on a Vintage Mooney?
rorythedog replied to N207LS's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Quote: sleepingsquirrel This is for the OP,I haven't slept since this thread, I did find something from real life experience with VGs here. http://www.nar-associates.com/technical-flying/vortex/Vgs_cruise_wide_screen.pdf http://www.nar-associates.com/technical-flying/vortex/Vgs_stall_wide_screen.pdf I"m making a correction to this: "Leaving bird poop, smashed bugs, on the leading edge will do as much TO HURT KEEPING the boundry layer attached as vortex generators at the speeds Mooneys are operating." -
Airport & FBO Recommendations for Chicago

aurora....easy. less than an hour to the loop. -
i think that you'd be sorry if you got involved with that guy from florida to whom you are alluding. having said that, i bought my plane from a florida broker and was very happy. i live in florida about 6 weeks a year. my favorite state for sure!

Quote: RJBrown My experience dealing with brokers 2 years ago consisted only of discussions over the phone. They seemed to have a vested interest in pumping up the market. I made offers on planes that were inline with sales I had tracked only to be treated rudely. AAA was the worst being verbally abusive and hanging up. Some may be better than others but my experience shows them to be a bunch of used car salesmen.

Quote: Cruiser I do not have XM weather in the cockpit, I do have a 3M WX-11 stormscope and I am very satisfied with it. It offers real time display and is very sensitive. I have found it to be more accurate than the reported weather by ATC. In my personal experiences flying the Midwest and Eastern states I am very comfortable reviewing the latest weather and radar images before taking off and using the stormscope enroute to update the local conditions. My flights are normally less than two hours. The general weather patterns don't change that quickly that I feel an urgency to require having XM in the cockpit. If the weather is that severe I don't need to be in it anyway.
-
i also use a wx-10 and xm combination. i find that the stormscope gives an earlier warning of trouble when these midwest summer build-ups materialize in seconds!

Quote: Dale Yes. I have used one for years. Originally got it for use at my house when the electric went out and you could run the Kooleraire on batteries. It would cool a room down if it wasn't too big. It doesn't cool large rooms but does a real nice job of cooling smaller spaces such as inside cars and small planes. If you set it up right, with the frozen water bottles or blue ice it will work really well.
-
has anyone had any experience with the kooleraire, or any portable air conditioner? i just ordered one and am excited to try it.

Quote: LT4BIRD My hangar is at PCM and I fly over to Sun in Fun every year. A lot of people will fly in and then drive over. But the whole point for me is to fly. We should get a mooney caravan out of PCM depart southbound turning east to lake parker. Thats how I go every year and makes for a 15 min ride. I'm sure we could get quite a few planes.

Quote: jerry-N5911Q Re the Airport Dog Test: We made a fuel stop at Wink (INK) Texas on a cross-country two years ago. We arrived in mid-afternoon on a weekday, and the ONLY living creature at the airport was the ramp dog. Later we learned his name was "Piper," but he was very glad to see us, even if in a Mooney. The pumps were open. I don't mean there was a credit card pump, no, the pumps were unlocked and "on" and a sign directed us to leave a note saying how much we'd pumped. Piper was a true airport dog. When we called out "clear" he headed directly for the terminal at full dog-trot. I hope he is still there greeting transient aircraft. 15 or so years ago i had the occasion to stop at cross city,florida....they had an airport pig!

GLD 90 Anyone? Looking to add Weather and Traffic
rorythedog replied to TLSDriver's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
vref, i do not have the directional antenna, but i think my unit is upgradable and i plan to do so in the future. i think the monroy is more solid...it is metal where the zaon is plastic. the nicest feature is the audible warning in your headset. the zaon has to be watched and that increases workload and a bit of anxiety. it's hard to believe, but there are airplanes flying around without transponders so you have to watch out around uncontrolled airports. and also, since these are passive systems there could be a lag time before a target is "seen". -
