  1. Looking for fresh air in Vegas ?
  2. Will be curious to hear about your trip to ORS I am planning an orcas watching trip in the San Juan sound, but not sure yet what the logistics will be ( accommodation and convenient places for whale watching) I have a post on the topic in the travel section.
  3. Got it. Just 1 RS232 wire to send the encoded altitude info to the GPS instead of the 8 or 9 Gray code wires. But 1 external encoder is still needed.
  4. did some research on the topic and this is what I found: "Built-in altitude repeater instead of a second altitude encoder" The question is why would i need an altitude repeater or a second encoder ? I like redundancy in an aircraft but a second encoder would be very low on my priority list.
  5. Do I understand correctly that with the KT-74 you do not need an Altitude encoder ? (i.e. a static line goes directly into the KT-74 ???) Would be a nice feature. Anything that removes parts and wires behind my panel will always be a plus
  6. Looks good. Still wondering if you had to go through Lycoming Service Center to get the STC for the IO-390 install..
  7. If you needed another data point ... 18.2 gph on takeoff for me this afternoon
  8. You are correct. That's why OAT installation manuals / STC usually specify where the probe should be located: Not in the engine exhaust stream, not under direct sunlight , usually under the wing .
  9. Not really backed with data, but in my opinion getting a plane at around 500 hours of ET is great. You are past the testing phase of the first few hundred hours and still plenty before TBO.
  10. Can you clarify the following: Can any IA install the IO-390 ? My understanding is that in order to get the engine installed you need the STC and the install can only be done at a Lycoming Authorized Service Center .
  11. SB20-282 was the first one I believe. There are subsequent ones, revisions , updates , etc .... That's why some called it the no back spring fiasco
  12. That is a Duke actuator on the picture. You can search for the Mooney SB20-282 for info and plenty of illustrations on the no- back spring. Mostly on Eaton actuators. eaton actuators may be on any serial number including early Js ( although the factory started installing them after 78). The SB is very informative. Most SB are actually informative even when they don't need to be complied with.
  13. A little related to this topic: When I stop my engine, I notice that the prop always stop in the vertical position. In the case of a gear up, I suppose it would be best to have the prop stop in the horizontal position. Is there a way to do get it to settle horizontal ? Or will it be windmilling anyway ? Not planning on testing in real
  14. is it that blue part ?
  15. How do you check that "the splines out of the disconnect coupling " are OK ? I have had several instances on the handle spinning during the gear check at annual
  16. It will disengage with centrifugal force as the prop starts spinning.
  17. how do you know it was painted ?!?!
  18. That's how a market economy works: when you buy something Made in China that you don't need to have and will probably end collecting dust and cluttering your garage, it is cheap. everything else ... $$$$$
  19. The alignment thing cannot happen with the 330ES The frequency and width in a KT 76 is set with a cavity. That cavity is usually what fails in old technology transponders. The new solid state technology like the GTX does not have a cavity ( it is all digital) I suspect a loose wire
  20. You will have more tips and techniques than you really want or have time to try when you ask that kind of question ! One more : if ther is one item everyone should keep in the hangar it is safety wire . Align the plate with two pieces of safety wire going thru two holes ... Partially get two screws till you can remove the safety wire without loosing the align
  21. I believe the -1 cannot be synced ( no yellow wire to sync the 2 strobes) The wheelen do not sync so it should not matter
  22. Most modern audio panels have several "Unswitched" audio inputs ( up to 4) for audio alarms or alerts. I wonder what these inputs can be used for in a J model ( without having to add or modify non stock sensors) ( main items would be Gear warning, low Vacuum, other ?)
  23. ok. but I don't think boat registration is public info. or is it ?
  24. what about boats ?
  25. I don't understand why aircrafts are public records. Cars, motorcycles are not. Are boats public records ?
