  1. My last check list item before touch down? As I cross the fence I check for green lights It works for Boeings to Mooneys "Crossing the fence check for green" Works every time
  2. I remember I went down the rabbit hole on this exact subject a few years ago I found by reading the actual MIL spec (attached) that 193-2 hose (to MIL spec MIL-H- 5593) actually had to pass some hydrocarbon testing using hot MIL-5606 fluid. Its contained in section 4.4.3.7 attached below file:///C:/Users/72773/Downloads/MIL-H-5593C%20(1).pdf It shows as a non-secure download but it down loads OK on my computer when forced Just for a point of reference- maybe why Mooney used it Its an old MIL spec I do like the idea of upsizing to #3 hose though
  3. Kind of what I was thinking from memory. From number crunching 19 pounds in the rear moves my CG aft 1.2 inches at gross weight.
  4. Wish you could make the hyd hoses for my Rolls Royce :-) The colors would look cool at the car show :-) As you can tell I'm not a purist in the car world
  5. Questions asked Questions answered Tribal knowledge says 40 pounds on the shelf As to the push/pull rods - that's way out in the future for engineering to look at BUT big thanks to Frank for getting back to me so quickly Great support response!!!! Thanks for the lead also !!
  6. I'll give it a try BTW Some time back I asked the factory about a Letter of No Technical Objection to use the spring push rods on the nose gear of the manual gear Mooneys and they aid they'd talk about it and I never heard back I'll bring that up also. Thanks.
  7. Do any of you remember what it took for Mooney to recertify the fuselage for "just" adding a second door and a composite "fairing" on the forward fuselage? It took so much time, effort (with the FAA oversite), and money that it killed the company Making changes to a "certified" aircraft is a very costly endeavor because its the FAA on the hook and not just the manufacturer. The wording is- FAA CERTIFIED They don't stick their neck out for anything or anyone. But of course Mooney also never did market well to their customers or come out with marketable ideas- they just spent money on losers- M22, M10, Porsche, MU-2, D model, and quite possibly the 2 door model But most abysmally, was their marketing to the flying public. All one had to do was go to OSH and visit the Cirrus booth and then go by the Mooney booth and it didn't take a rocket scientist to see which one knew how to sell airplanes - THE MAIN purpose of being in business. I personally saw them lose a brand new sale (right near the end) to an overseas customer who came all the way to OSH to give them money and no one at OSH, from the factory, would even talk to him. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mooney but one has to sit back and smell the roses.
  8. How? I have never talked with him The brain trust around here hasn't ever seen the limits either? 60 years in the field and no one knows the limit number? As mentioned I've seen many different installations on those shelves but never gave thought to a weight limit before now.
  9. Someone who doesn't post here anymore used the red/brown D shaped foam weather strip from the aviation isle at Home Depot with good success years ago.
  10. A Photon Torpedo cannon! Its a loose end of missing information that I want to find. Have seen many radios mounted back there but nowhere can I find the shelf load limit Inquiring minds want to know
  11. Has anyone ever seen a weight limit published for the radio shelf aft of the cabin in the hell hole? I've been searching and if there is one I have missed it somewhere. Its probably hiding in plain sight an I have my eyes closed ! :-)
  12. What other single engine complex airplane is/was built similar to our Mooneys? (steel tube and aluminum shell) With 285 HP it would cruise at around 180+ kts
  13. Proves that just because it legal it may not be a good idea! The LAW of Unintended Consequences The charlie weights that I have seen seem to run about 6 pounds each.
  14. The Dynon HDX does NOT have VOR/ILS capability. Its built in GPS is NOT IFR certified SO--- For IFR GPS work it needs to be fed with an approved GPS signal (GPS 175 ?) One would need to have a separate Com/nav for 2nd com and VOR/ILS capability with an indicator in the panel (I use Dynons com radio and xponder connected thru the HDX). I choose the HDX as I didn't need IFR capability (no other GPS installed) It cleaned up the panel to only 2 screens total. No more problems with old engine/fuel gages either. Compatible with the Aerocruze 100 A/P (installed and working fine). It works for me and my flying YMMV
  15. Well they could have come here and I could show them most every model and tell them what they need to know !! :-)
  16. YUP Moved west with the migration :-) Glad we did Didn't have any coffee houses in Page :-) :-) Nor doctors!! Im here until Im drooling in my soup.
  17. We have so many coffee places it boggles the mind Many stand alone drive thru coffee stops that seem to always have 8 or 10 cars in line for what? Coffee? Who the heck drinks that much coffee at per gallon prices that go 10 times beyond avgas per gallon? I'd rather buy avgas :-)
  18. They've already beaten you to it Both St George and Kanab have booze stores just over the line south in Mesquite and Fredonia AZ 1st town south of the border
  19. make sure you land at the new airport east of town. runway no longer next to Inn on the Cliffs It now an industrial park
  20. Just to add perspective - The differences between models has more to do with the hardware to mount the servo than anything to do with the operation of the autopilot. Each Mooney model can be slightly different where the pitch servo mounts even for the Dynon A/P so each model needs specific parts to make up a kit that might be different than the others. One item that no one has addressed (and might not be an issue) is the difference in ailerons between early and late model Mooneys. Early had "curved" airfoil ailerons and later has "straight" airfoil ailerons. The curved ones had a higher "break out" force for roll control (as best as I can describe it and IIRC) making the roll torque higher on the early ones. If this has had any affect on autopilots I am unaware of it.
  21. Just to change the vector a little- St George Utah (way too much snow and cold up in Salt Lake City) St George is 90 mins to Las Vegas NV if you want the glitz and glimmer Big airport there with low airline prices 1 hr or less to world class skiing from here, high mountain lakes and a huge off road driving community. Local lakes for water sports. @100K population Housing about $400K for new builds. Growing and with 2 Costcos (2nd by end of year) :-) Wally World etc Weather is 10 degrees lower year round than Las Vegas average High 90s summer and 3 weeks of teens at night winter, NO DAMN SNOW TO SPEAK OF DOWN IN TOWN! :-) I don't do good with that white crap on the ground for months like Salt Lake City! No humidity here- single digit numbers summer time, we can even use swamp coolers here if we want :-) Unlike ANYTHING east of the Texas/Dakotas line we don't have tornados, massive T storm fronts, flooding downpours, hail storms or nights of lightning storms Once in a while we get a flash flood down washes but that's all. 3 airlines operate out of our main airport, KSGU, 2 other airports near (one municipal and one fly in community) Predominantly a Mormon town religiously BUT they have been as a group, the nicest people we have ever met in all our travels and we've traveled the world. Not part of their faith but nonetheless they have been very nice to us everywhere. I'd rather have Canadians move here than Californians!!!! :-) :-) and I grew up in Cali!
  22. YUP Installed both and both work fine - together I should say that I had a shop install the Dynon because of time constraints. I was out of the country. Many HDXs have been installed by experimental builders. If you can follow directions its not too big a challenge but it will take time (90 -120 hrs ) More to add as I think of things- Programing the HDX will take time You will need a working knowledge of the process and study ahead to understand what and when to do it to set up the Dynon screen the way you want. This is a big job IF you haven't done it before. Adding in the EMS system adds to the work load. Learnable but with study. Planning ahead before you drill and cut is a big part of the job. Using good tools is the only way - wire strippers, crimping tools, etc This is not like putting a 4 track stereo on your 56 Chevy. I used Dynon's premade cables that made the shops job easier. Running the right aileron cable out thru the wing will take planning for the autopilot The Aerocruz autopilot can be done in 40 hrs easy I just took my time as I don't and to work too hard these days Like I said, careful planning before holes are drilled or metal is cut is required.
  23. I've said this for years now! Like make up hoses, do cylinder work (valve seats and guides), even magneto repair. Most everyone wants to just order parts.
  24. I can rely on 16 MPG 155 statute at 9.6 GPH Been doing that for years WOT 2500 RPM @9,000 ft
