  1. I'd say to insure it for what you think the actual value is, but the insurance company may have their own ideas. They won't, for example, insure a runout 152 for $100k, no matter how much you think it's worth. If you have a good basis for the higher valuation, though, it would probably be a good idea to use that. In airplane insurance, the amount you'll get if the plane is totalled is the amount of the policy--it isn't like auto insurance where they give you their estimated value of the car at the time of the loss.

  3. Quote: DaV8or I have been told that if you want to make TBO for sure, you should run at 65% power.
  4. Quote: jlunseth If one alternator were to go down in IMC the deice would quit.
  5. Quote: planebones but I wouldn't run at 2600 all day. ....Ken
  6. Quote: leesh Can an OAT probe be directly to a 430?
  7. See AC 43.13-2B, Chapter 6, particularly paragraph 607. This covers requirements for installation of O2 systems, and specifies that regular commercial oxygen cylinders are acceptable for installation in aircraft if they carry the appropriate ICC markings. Oxygen cylinders are common, and there's nothing special about the ones that get installed in airplanes.
  8. Quote: Magnum A lot of engines don't make it to TBO because of oil consumption, bad compressions, etc.
  9. Quote: sleepingsquirrel Hi, I used something called Spot tracker during a 64 hour crossing of the Gulf of Mexico. I would watch that product to become FAA certified.
  10. Quote: ehscott I would echo what several others have said about using the ipad for primary navigation, not a good idea or likely even legal.
  11. I've already got an order in for ACK's unit--once they ship it, it's going in '48Q. It goes for $600, and I plan on doing the installation myself and having my A&P sign off on it.
  12. None of us can really answer your question, as it depends entirely on the mechanic/shop you'll be working with. From what I've heard, the most common arrangement is for you to remove all the appropriate access panels, do normal owner-maintenance type items (change the oil, clean and gap spark plugs, any general cleaning, etc.), and replace the access panels when the inspection is complete. I did mine last year, and that's about the pattern it followed. I brought my own basic tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers), and used my IA's when I needed to. The inspection itself must be completed personally by the IA, but any of the rest of the work can be done by you under his supervision.
  13. Is anybody even paying attention to this? This thread's been open for almost a year, and it's safe to say the problem predates the thread, but it doesn't seem that anything's been done about it. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a free site. But none of the other free web forums I've seen have this problem.
  14. Quote: airbusflyboy Changing gears ............... How about your Aircraft Insurance ? If you run the engine past TBO and have a problem, are they going to pay for it or some of it?
  15. Quote: DaV8or Since the prevailing opinion here so far and on the AOPA forums seems to be run it until it won't run no more, I thought I might offer an opposite view point.
  16. My wife had some nose art (well, tail art actually) commissioned for '48Q, so she's now "Carolina Girl". Victory Girl did some really nice work!
  17. Quote: pilot716 why the J? bigger engine I assume, since all the bodies were the same? what were the "best years" for either?
  18. Quote: jlunseth Cabin space increased with each model except the G, which is not a step up from the F in terms of cabin space.
  19. I'm thinking my next upgrade will be to a 231 (or a Rocket if I can convince my wife); that would look great in the panel!
  20. Quote: Hank The DE didn't ask me to demonstrate them coupled to the 430 for an approach, either, since he said it's "not a real auto pilot." [No altitude hold, no "approach" mode, no climb/descent rates, etc.]
  21. Spec is 5" +/- 0.25".
  22. Quote: eldeano I think that would quality as an owner / operator made part.
  23. I took my checkride in my F with the PC, and the DE didn't say anything about it.
  24. Not a problem. There's a good article explaining it here: Manifold Pressure Sucks!
  25. Quote: 201-FLYER I find it intresting the author of the article advocates 50 degrees ROP. Many on this forum indicate that's the worst place for an engine to be for some reason. In any event it was good and informative reading. Thanks
