  1. Best economy will always be LOP, assuming your engine will run there (and if it won't, do what you can to make it so it will). Other than that, I'll be interested to see the responses.
  2. See http://mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?mainaction=posts&forumid=3&threadid=2313. Maybe they bought the King 770 and it will finally see the light of day.
  3. Quote: N6784N im not trying to be negative about the ipad but its really not for aviaiton use.
  4. Quote: flight2000 I'm not familiar enough with EFB certification, so will reserve judgement on what we can and cannot get away with during part 91 ops.
  5. Quote: Jeff_S Lord, if you can change a landing light you oughta' be able to change the wing fuel gauge.
  6. Quote: testwest Aspen is planning to tackle the Century legacy APs next (AFAIK) with their DA converter, so the PFD would talk to the Century AP computer and servos. They have already done so for the King attitude gyros....
  7. You should be able to get them from your favorite Mooney Service Center fairly inexpensively--I'm pretty sure I've seen them for $35 or less. Replacement is an easy (but not legal) DIY job--pop the old gauge out of its socket with an icepick, clean out the RTV sealant, apply new sealant, and put the new gauge in place.
  8. Quote: Highflight Is that 25 Squared a good figure? Is that leaned to peak?
  9. Quote: carusoam are you refering to the outer bezel that holds the switch in place. (I think if this threaded piece, knurled on the outside, is missing, the whole switch is loose in the hole in the panel?)
  10. Quote: Sven Is this the missing fourth Mooney logo?
  11. I understand there was a fourth version, in between the middle and third ones. It was the same as the modern version, but with gold trim rather than silver. That's what they said at AeroComfort, anyway, when I had them embroider my yokes (and that's what I had done, as I think it looks nicer on the black leather).
  12. Quote: Piloto To avoid adding too much water adjust the voltage regulator not to exceed 28 volts but no less than 27 volts.
  13. Quote: Cruiser As for KBKL, you can park in front of the old terminal building under the control tower and avoid the FBO and any of their fees but you will still pay the landing fee to the airport.
  14. Quote: Fastbyk I just read that apple is coming out with an IPad 3 version in the fall that will have larger ram as well as a front facing camera.
  15. Quote: jpusser How do FBO's get away with charging ramp fees or landing fees.
  16. Quote: donshapansky There is one recurring AD which is a visual inspection of the exhaust transistion pipe across the front underside of the engine at 60hr intervals, when the oil is changed the A&P inspects it .
  17. I'm also interested in a Rocket, though it will be a year at least before I would be able to upgrade to one. I compare a 201 to my 20F and see a slight gain, but a 231 is just a little more, and a Rocket is just a little more yet... It seems the market values Rockets at or below 252s, which just doesn't make any sense to me. What, if any, service issues are there? Any major SBs, ADs, etc.? Would anybody have a copy of the AFM Supplement they could share?
  18. BTW, I re-read the OP and see you are interested in an engine monitor as well. There are lots of options; I have the EI UBG-16 and am satisfied with it. Through next month they're running a rebate to get a fuel flow module, transducer, and extra temp sensor of your choice (I'd recommend oil temp) free when you buy the UBG-16. It won't replace any of your primary engine instruments, but it will monitor CHT/EGT and pretty much any other engine parameters you want, record them, and let you download them to your computer for later analysis. It will also allow you to set alarms for any of those parameters, and flash a big red warning light when one of them is exceeded. It's $1215 from Gulf Coast Avionics, including CHT and EGT probes for 4 cylinders. Installation labor will, of course, be quite a bit more than for the tach, but an engine monitor is a really good idea.
  19. Quote: Seth The aviation consumer article was a big factor, but not as big as the advice here on the board. Thanks everyone.
  20. I understood the MGW (or at least MTOW) on the Rocket to be 3200 lb., giving similar payload to an inmodified 231. Is this not correct?
  21. Quote: Seth 1. Does the LED simulated arc on the EI bother anyone during nighttime flight? 2. Was going from an arc to not having one on the Horizon a big issue? 3. Does the EI have any of the diagnostic figures - overspeeding, open mag circuit warning, etc like the Horizon?
  22. Also have the FP-5L, and also very happy with it. I suspect the LCD on the FP-5L is more readable in direct sunlight than the LED display in the JPI, but the JPI shows current fuel consumption all the time (with another function--total fuel used, fuel remaining, time to empty, etc., on a second line) while the FP-5L has only a single display. EI has run a number of rebates in the past which bring the cost down to under $400, but I don't see one active right now. It runs $515 at Gulf Coast Avionics at the moment--I expect that as we get closer to Sun 'n' Fun we'll see some bargains though. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to go with a unit like the Insight would be if there were simply no room available on the panel for a 2.25" instrument.
  23. I also installed the EI digital tach on '48Q. Some differences compared to the Horizon unit: (1) it's a 2.25" instrument instead of 3.125" (you can get an adapter plate easily enough if desired), (2) the EI has an LED arc to simulate the tach needle, and (3) the EI starts running the hour meter at 1300 RPM vs. the Horizon at 800 RPM. In effect, this means that idle time will add to the tach time on the Horizon, but not on the EI. I've found it to work well, and the installation was very straightforward. If you're only needing to replace the tach, I wouldn't go for one of the primary-replacement monitors (EI MVP-50, JPI 930), as you're looking at $5k+ for that. However, if you don't have an engine monitor at all, it may be a different story.
  24. I'd much rather have a separate fuel flow instrument, FWIW.
  25. My wife worked with Jerri at Victory Girl; it was a surprise to me for Christmas last year. The thinking behind putting it on the tail was (1) no issue with engine heat, (2) the tail is a more flat surface, (3) there were stripes along the cowling that would have been in the way of art there. I like the tail location, and I'm looking forward to some warmer weather to get it installed.
