  1. Here's another great screen feature. This is very important with the typical viewing distances in the cockpit. A higher resolution sharper picture reduces eye strain by making screen smoother and easier to read. The 540 display is 4.75" x 3.5" and 307000 pixels with a 5.7" diagonal. The GTN750 is 5.27"x 4.46", 6.9" diagonal and 425000 pixels. (Aspen resolution is similar to IFD at 304000 pixels.) The GTN presents a bigger screen and a whopping 30% higher resolution than the IFD. Advantage: GTN!
  2. And aspen ones who cry and whine about interoperability and sand in their panties and how the big bad gorilla doesn't let them play in his sandbox! They fail to realize that if they don't change their ways and become more competitive, one day the big bad gorilla is going to get tired of the whining parasites. He will swallow them whole and they won't even touch his teeth! I can't imagine where our ga panels would be if it wasn't for Garmin!
  3. I don't agree. Anticompetitive trade practices are unfair business practices that stiffle competition and lead to higher prices, lower quality or less innovation. That's not the case at all here. Exactly the opposite. You have a company, Garmin, producing the highest quality product and constantly innovating.
  4. The reason the others cry about interoperability is because they need Garmin for their boxes to work and sell. The inverse does not apply.
  5. I don't see this as a Garmin issue. They have such a plethora of products of their own and can't, nor should, be bothered about the others. It's the others that can't keep up and makes their heads spin and break in cold sweats every time G announces something new! Now, if the others had the broad product lines G has and were real competition for Garmin there wouldn't be an issue of interoperability. It's called good old American competition!
  6. Exactly right. I bet they have it ready to go but are being deliberate about it. They don't show all their cards at once. Besides, contrary to what some believe, they do have compassion! They want to give Aspen a chance to recuperate from the panic and anxiety. Give them some time to catch their breath and bring their heart rate back down... until of course the next Garmin announcement!
  7. How much market share did they really grab though? I don't think Garmin cares for two reasons: first, G has the superior product. Let's face it, an IFD is no GTN, and Avidyne or Aspen for that matter, is no Garmin! And second, the best an IFD can do is slide into a GNS rack. Beautiful. Now what?! For some that maybe good enough but others may consider it short sighted and a dead end. Garmin could have easily done this but didn't. Perhaps because they're interested in the big picture and transforming the entire panel with new technology and potential.
  8. Did it come with the specific module needed to install it in the Mooney?
  9. Agree. I would add they also associate those with IFR airplanes Mooneys, Barons etc. vs. VFR planes.
  10. As Lloyd Bentsen deflated Dan Quayle in their VP debate by telling him "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" In a similar tone "Avidyne x40, you're no GTN"
  11. I agree. Hopefully they'll fix that. But then again maybe the G5 HSI was just an appetizer. Maybe they will announce something big tomorrow...
  12. Is that all?! How disappointing!
  13. Actually it's tomorrow, March 31, 5-6 PM EDT. I have a feeling it's something big!
  14. Tomorrow is the day!!
  15. Well, that's easy! Roll and hold a 2-3° right bank!
  16. You should have it done properly by someone who knows what they're doing and utilizing proper materials. Here's mine done by paint shop. No issues. I wouldn't take it back to them. I'd take it to a paint shop and work it out for Sensenich to pay them directly or reimburse you.
  17. For my money it has to be genuine Lycoming factory. Nothing less.
  18. Engine incorrectly assembled on two different occasions?! Were they done by the same shade tree mechanic under the same tree?! Must've been pretty shady under there!!
  19. I don't see it as a big deal. It's extra and unnecessary clutter on the screen and may be the reason Garmin does not show it. It's standard unless noted otherwise.
  20. Jim, 27R indicates runway 27R. The non standard traffic pattern is indicated on the chart by the RP* notation. That's telling you there is non standard pattern and to check the AFD for details.
  21. Wait and see what Garmin is rolling out on the 31st!
  22. Question about tanks and sealant. When airplane was built and tank panels assembled at the factory was there sealant actually sandwiched between overlaping surfaces or was it only applied on the top surface. Seems to me sandwiching sealant between surfaces, which can only be done when tanks are initially built, is superior to brushing it on top as is done with reseals. And if it was sandwiched between panels at seams at the factory, does stripping remove it? I have no leaks, knock wood, but when I do I'm very reluctant to fully strip old sealant for this reason. Is this a valid way of thinking?
  23. With CHT around 300 and OAT 20 to 30 and having sealed the engine really well, it sounds to me the whole engine itself is running cool and just not getting hot. And if the whole engine is running cool the oil is not going to get hot either. Warning! I'm not an A&P. I'm only a pilot. But I do like to start with the simple things and not overlook the obvious. Therefore this is my observation based on the data presented!
  24. Assuming IFR, I shoot for a 500 fpm rate of decent. It keeps ATC happy and the math simple.
