  1. I have a dilemma I need to replace my elt battery and I have been planning on flying to the in-laws which is almost 200 nm to the north of Sault Ste Marie in Canada, needless to say it is a much shorter flight than the 1300 mile drive from here in the southern U.S. however I have to have a 406 MHZ ELT to satisfy Canadian Regs. I had an ACK E-04 ordered and it seems it hadnt been approved by the FAA yet so now I have to choose another, any input would be appreciated. Mike
  2. Congrats! Good luck with your transition to the Mooney, I was a Cessna pilot and I had no idea how tolerant a 172 is with sloppy flying, a Mooney as you'll find will not tolerant sloppy flying, and must be flown by the numbers.
  3. Do we really want these government bureaucrats in charge of our healthcare???????
  4. What's up with this engine (TSIOL-55AIG liquid cooled) and whats the difference between the rocket versus the missle?
  5. I have a Lyc 360 in my C model and my friend owns a 231 w/6cyl Connie and it is a bit smoother however, the difference isnt very much if everything is in order. I had my 2 blade prop dynamically balanced and it made a HUGE difference, was work every penny of the 275$ i spent. The older mooney with the 4 cyl lyc does everything I need and more, for less money invested and costs less money in maintenance expense per annual than the 231. The speed difference is just not worth the extra costs for my purposes, 145 kts for 8-9 gph = 19 mpg, that oughta make anybody smile.
  6. I have a M20C with the 201W/S mod and it has no access panels, during this years annual I was very pleased to discover the hydraulic res. is accessible through a hydraulic fitting conveiniently located on the firewall. This was a huge help when topping off the res. after rebuild of the brake cylinders and flap pump. I would think any of the mod shops could provide this when doing a 201 W/S mod.
  7. I read their pityful excuse for being MIA at AV. I guarantee one of their customers would've been more than happy to display his or her new Mooney at AV and it would've cost much to do that. In my profession, (Utility Construction & Maintenance) aerial lift manufacturers are constantly asking customers to lend or display the newest of the new equipment that has been purchased and if you want proof of that just drop in at the IQUEE show in Louisville this year. I dont believe that line a'crap! Mike
  8. Hi Mooneyheads, I have been getting the annual done and I am gonna need the small wedge shaped interior panels replaced, you know, the small flimsy plastic things down near your legs that run along the floor. The ones I have are all cracked up and almost in pieces. I looked on the web at Airtex and Plane Plastics and dont see them there I thought someone on here may know where they can be picked up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  9. Got the ECI done on my prop at southcoast propellors, cost 350$, while there I discussed the new prop option and the guy said he would trade my prop in and about 6 grand for a new scimitar 2-blade. I just keep asking myself when is enough enough, where is the point where you trade up?
  10. Anyone know of a close Eddy Current Inspection facility near DKX ? Yes I am gonna do it again, maybe I'll go the Top Prop route next year.
  11. Wow! That F on Ebay looks awfully tempting, my "C" is in for an annual and I havent been in the air in 3 weeks. Anyone got any lines I could use on the wife to convince her why I need 2 airplanes?
  12. If I had the clams I would sure like to check into this. Looks good in the photos. http://www.rbauction.com/common_scripts/gallery_full_view.jsp?auction_id=2009158&industry_id=13&equip_id=2309282&img_num=1&page_type=0
  13. My plane had an aileron replaced some time back in the mid 90's before I bought it and on the first flight it had a slight right turn tendency. Upon checking the ailerons I discovered a misalignment so I adjusted the linkage at the rh belcrank, till they were even, this solved the prob. Sounds like your elevator is out of alignment, from what you've said, I would look closely at the logs and see if there has been any damage recorded or parts replaced in the elevator area that could give reason for the elevator to be out of alignment. I would definately NOT bend any control surface. I'm sure there is somebody on here who knows more on this than me, so maybe they'll chim in here, however I do know a trim tab deflection causes drag, bent control surfaces cause drag plus they can be structurally weakened as well.
  14. I am here to learn what I can, lots of experience on this forum.
  15. ECI cylinder info http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAD.nsf/0/c1ca8c956328150c862574c5005702bd!OpenDocument&ExpandSection=-4
  16. I didnt look at it TOO closely since I dont happen to have ECI cylinders but I recieved something in the mail regarding cracks and some type of action to take if I did have ECI cylinders. Dual mag? I have seen a 201 that was bellied in and tore all to heck and the dual mag was hanging from the back of the motor (which had been freshly OH) no mag works when it isnt attached to the motor, small flashlight and good preflight does wonders. My bird has many mods but it was that way when I bought it, I just think money better spent is to buy a bird like you want and fly the crap out of it. I have a long wat till TBO but when I get tired of what I have I'll trade up or maybe down but I just dont see dumping more money into a bird than you can get out of it. I'd rather trade lots of deals out there right now.
  17. I am coming up on annual time in a month or so and was wondering about the new hub that eliminates the eddy current on the Hartzell HC-C2YK-1BF/F7666A-2 as I understand it the new hub totally eliminates the need for eddy current inspection. Anyone running one of these?? Thanks, Mike
  18. IMHO, I think there is a lot of merit to having some of the business guys on listening and chiming in on occasion, on occasion, occasionally, once in a while, however, like watching TV, too many commercials gets on the nerves, especially when they get long winded, hopefully the commercial members will not abuse their membership and ruin a good thing. Got a decent day of weather took a ride in the, "C" model and I'll have to say I am truly privelged to fly a Mooney, makes it much easier to face monday morning when you've been flyin.
  19. I had fuel press readings that made me nervous, 1st thing I thought was replace the mech pump BTW its a "C" model. I didnt replace the mech pump instead I started with the cheap things. I cleaned the screen that's in the back of the carb and drained the carb bowl, that seemed to fix the problem for me. One thing that could definately cause low readings is a slight leak in the fuel line that is above the fuel level when aircraft is sitting, and is on the suction side of the mech pump. A leak on the suction side of the system will let air bubbles enter the fuel system and will cause a low pressure.
  20. I stopped to get some fuel one time and a stranger walked by my plane and said " Do you know that plane isnt airworthy?" I said what do you mean? he said that the plane wasnt airworthy with the tiedown rings left in place and they were to be removed before flight. I just ignored him and went on about my business. Why should they be taken out everytime? If they had been screwed in and out everytime since 1965 I guarantee there'd be no threads left by now.
