  1. Ronnie hasn't worked for Mooney for many months. John Elliott is the Sr. Manager Mooney Factory Service Center. His email is: jelliott@mooney.com And as I mentioned in my earlier post the VP of Operations has made a commitment to improving customer service. I do think they "get it", as customer service has to be #1 or folks will not buy again. Just my two cents. If you want send me a PM and I can try to relay your concerns. I am just an owner-operator too, it is just with the Ambassadors, I do have some contact with folks in Kerrville. I am happy to help in any way I can.
  2. I had heard the $100,000 figure as well for AirVenture. I didn't know the formal decision had been made, but it isn't surprising. MAPA will be there, and the Mooney Ambassadors were chosen to give a presentation this year. We competed with 700 applicants. We will post the day, time and location when the details are known. It would be very nice for some deposits to come in for the 2010s so the factory can spool back up.
  3. I have spoken with Wayne Fischer and Jennie Mitchell from MAC: as many of you know the inventory of 2009s has all been sold. Mooney is now taking fully refundable deposits of $5000 on the 2010s. From what I understand five deposits would spur the factory back into production. I also spoke to Chad Nelson, the Vice President of Operations at Mooney Airplane Company. He says that the goal of the service department is a turn around of days between order of a needed part, and delivery of that order. Further, he made the following offer: If you are near Kerrville, and would like a factory tour please call 830-896-6000 and ask for Glenda. Please identify yourself as a Mooney Ambassador. This is Mooney Airplane Company's way of thanking us Ambassadors for our service to the company. The decision about AirVenture at OshKosh will be made in late April. Sun and Fun is underway and they are in their usual location. Mooney Airplane Company will have a full complement of our sales team along with 2 Acclaims and an Ovation 3. Hope this helps...

Don is an absolute Mooney Guru, and has tons of experience. And in my opion you might want to join MAPA if you haven't and perhaps even put a classifed in the MAPA LOG, you get a free advertisement!   7. Oceano Update This Saturday, April 10th: 10:00 a.m. The volunteers for the grounds are meeting at the Oceano Airport. We are doing all the fun sexy stuff, like weeding, digging and raking. Please join us if you would like to help. Our campground has been designed with native, drought tolerate, low maintenance plants. The County will be painting the building and striping the parking lot. We are responsible for the rest, as this is what we volunteered to do!   9. I believe I felt much the way you do when I began my search for a Mooney in 2003. I ended up with a 65 E model. I suppose that perserverence is the key. The market is certainly in your favor, but when you are dealing with a private seller, I do believe it feels like they are parting with a "member of the family". If you are not top-notch Mooney Savvy, then you need a pre-buy. With Oakland has your home base, of course you have LASAR nearly in your back yard. But most likely you will find your new baby in some other part of the country, and will need to rely on one of our great Mooney Service Centers [MSCs] or recommendations from the MAPA forum or this board. While the process is a bit more complicated than buying a car, it isn't brain surgery. You will also find that everyone has an opinion, but the one that matters the most is yours. I, too, wasn't too worried about paint. I was concerned with the integrity of the engine. Even the avionics were a bit secondary to the engine for me. Everyone is different. The MAPA log is a good place to start. LASAR also sells planes on consignment. Many congratulations, and I hope you will be doing the Happy Mooney Dance very soon. If you have questions please ask!   10. Lew, you forgot to mention that your right arm and left arm are now the same size. I love my flaps and manual gear in my E model. Although having my right arm so beefy gives me the the illusion that I could deck someone if ever I met an unruly person in a dark parking lot. In my head I think I am a 250 lb male.   11. Welcome to the world of Mooney Airplanes! We are a small, but close-knit family. A year ago, we purchased a 1994 Ovation, after having an F for many many years, and we still have my E model. I think that you will be very happy with the instrumentation, design, safety features and Mooney SPEED. Don Kaye is an excellent choice for instruction and is in your "neck of the woods."   13. I just wanted to bump this message. This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the pioneers with Mooney Airplanes. If you are considering the purchase of a Mooney, or looking at a pre-buy...why not go, get the great manual, and experience the seminar. Just my two cents....
  14. Bob, one final thought, something my Dad said to me a few hours after the crash. "It was a piece of metal. Metal can be replaced. There are no funerals being planned today." It helped me.
  15. Bob, I can relate to your experience, the difference being with me, the loss was as the result of an "off airport" landing. I did immediately start looking for a replacement for Maggie I. It was healing for me to look, shop and eventually purchase Maggie II. Probably unlike your aircraft, we were able to salvage instruments from Maggie I, and as well, have her N number transferred to my airplane. I feel for you and your family. It is very traumatic.   16. I had six hours in a Mooney when I purchased my E model, and perhaps 150 total time. My insurance has been between $1200-1400 with great coverage and a $100 deductible. Become a member of MAPA and AOPA, then get a good deal. I transitioned from a Warrior to the Mooney with no problems. Good luck and keep us posted.

  18. Hi Jason Welcome to the Mooney Family. There is a great myth that the Mooney is a difficult plane to fly. I think that is really just a myth. Just as you do with any aircraft, you need to have solid training and no illusions about your skills. Most times I think the times that Mooney pilots get into trouble is when they think they can "get away with something." For example, too much speed on final or in the flare. My 65 E model is the best. She is very predictable and when I fly her by the numbers I can be seen doing the "Happy Mooney Dance" after a great landing. Again welcome! MooneySpace is awesome.   22. There are always exceptions to everything but, normally I lower to 20" MP, lower to 2000 RPM and the nose drops to achieve approx. 400-500 FPM.
