  1. I just added a bunch of challenge questions that are aviation related. Let's see if that slows them down.
  2. I have added a bunch of aviation related question/answer challenge questions which will hopefully slow down the bots. If this does not work we will likely switch over to where every new member has to be approved by a moderator.
  3. Sorry guys I have been flying over the last couple days from Santa Fe to Seattle and answering reports was very tough. We surely have a problem here and I think we need to attack it from a couple angles: - Challenge/answer questions. Note that we just can't ask people N-number, base, etc because nothing stops a spammer from putting bogus data here - We are going to need some volunteer moderators. Before you can accept a position as a moderator you need to be very web savvy. I don't have the time/resources to train people how to use the IPBoard stuff so you need to be the type of person that can just look at a new system/interface and figure it out on your own. - Once we have some good moderators in place that cover most hours of the day I think we should look into a system where all new accounts have to be approved by a moderator before they can post. etc. Then we can ask things like aircraft reg number, location. etc and help to get a feel if they are legit or spammers. We will win this fight guys! We did not have the problems with the other forums because they were not a standard "canned" code package - they were mostly programmed by myself so they did not have a "blueprint" of how to hack it open.
  4. I have a 930 and LOVE it. Had it for about 2.5 years not one issue. I use it as a primary for everything - no stock gauges remain: http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/30143-new-panel-on-first-cross-country-flight-what-an-experience/
  5. Are you getting any kind of error message? I am placing a picture in this reply from the "My Media" button in the editor above - it lets me pick a photo from my galleries. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33269-the-night-glow/
  6. Actually I think I was able to fix this just not altering the permissions via FTP. Please try again!
  7. For now try to make a new folder (or gallery as they are called I think) and upload to that. I noticed that I was not able to upload to folders that were migrated from the old site but making a new one worked ok. I have a tech ticket in the system to fix it so we can upload to older folders/galleries though - hang tight!
  8. I don't think I have ever seen an LCD screen that did not "black out" or dim out severly when turned against its display lines with polarized sunglasses. My Aspens, LCD AI and EDM930 engine computer all do this as well if I tilt my head. Samsung S3 phone and my iPad do as well.
  9. I am waiting for this RAM mount to be ready: http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-apple-ipad-mini-clamp-mount-ram-b-121-ap12u.html Then I will likely pull the trigger on a mini. All of the RAM mounts have a ball joint behind the mounting plate so you can swivel it with a little labor.
  10. I seriously need that in my Mooney! I wonder how long we have to wait for HUD systems in our GA ships?
  11. Thanks! I love it most at night - like cruising around in a space ship ;-)

  13. From the album: 2012

Shooting some practice approaches in the black. Fun!
  14. Mine ended up being a funny story. I was working on this until about 2AM alongside my A&P that was burning the midnight oil to complete an annual on a C-172, this was when I lived in Hawaii back in 2009. The little rods that Mooney used had a kind of ball at the end that butts with the actuator rod (which has its own knobby end). The factory would use some shrink tube to hold the two items together. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I could make such a part and I asked my A&P. He looked puzzled for a while then after a minute I could see that big lightbulb over his head. He said that for no good reason he had a fetish of collecting swizzle sticks from various resorts and bars. As most of you know these have a little round knob on the end of most of them. He handed me a bundle of about 100 of these things and I went through them finding ones of a close diameter and with the smallest "ball" on the end I could find. With an exacto knife and a lot of patience I carved out two of them to a near perfect match, painted the tips black and shrink wrapped them just like the stock ones. To this day I get a lot of people asking because my flaps indicator is an orange stick with a black tip - from the Mauna Kea resort on the Kona coast of the Big Island. A great conversation piece!
  15. Must have been a fluke thing or server lag - I went around and liked a few posts and they all worked.
  16. I am not 100% sure but this might be part of the system where users can rate one another? Beats me though Ok, ya it has to do with members "liking" content of other users - gallery images, forum posts, etc.
  17. For what it is worth I can use a plate pretty effectively on an Aspen MFD display so I think as long as your eyes are in good shape you should be able to read plates on a 7" tablet ok. Foreflight does not allow it yet but one of the EFBs I was checking out had a great feature to let you scribble over plates. This allows you to do things like write the MDA for your category/etc at the top with a crayon or underline critical parts of the plates for easy reference. Pretty handy ;-) I think this might have been Garmin Pilot since I know I was looking at it on the Galaxy Nexus 7 tablet.
  18. I will likely pick up a mini just because the regular ipad is too big to yoke mount and RAM already has a mini mount available. However, I really wish ForeFlight/Aspen would get their act together and develop on the Android platform. I would MUCH rather just go with a Google Galaxy Nexus tablet which costs less and blows the mini away in every way imaginable. I am just soooo tired of Apple stuff. But now that I have connected panel it is pretty much a requirement to have an EFB that can push the flight plan into my GPS. I will keep nagging Aspen
  19. Ok guys. This appears to be fixed now! Thank you for letting me know about this
  20. Yeah, the app will run you $5 on the AppStore.
  21. Yeah, I am new to it as well and it is a pretty cool way to browse the forums on a mobile device...like you said - keeping up with new content is great!
  22. We are doing well actually. Raised about $4k and spent about $1800 so far setting up the initial hosted version of IPBoard which in turn I needed to buy the full code base and host it on an Amazon S3 cloud server. Operating costs are about $100 per month on the new cloud server but well worth it given the performance boost and tons of storage space we get. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  23. Ok, we are now up and running with Tapatalk ;-)
  24. Ok, posting this from Tapatalk. Good to go! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
