  1. Unless a part is made from an inferior metal, or if it needs heat treatment, that process was done incorrectly, say over treated, and now brittle, I can't see how its a problem. A group of us got together and had a batch of parts made years ago for our planes, which IMHO are if anything superior to the OEM part.
  2. Those night shots are tricky.
  3. Sure, why not. Ask Bill Gates for a few million, he has plenty.
  4. Good thread. While doing my research these last many months, all the paths lead me to getting a Mooney. Quick, efficient, and no gimmicks.
  5. Just for fun, when you get older, retire, have the big hangar, and are going to park another plane it, beside your Mooney of course. What do you want that plane to be? The only rule is that it cannot be another Mooney.
  6. No, never polished a plane. Just admire their beauty.

Well i can never ride in another 737 now thanks to this thread...
  8. Here are some statistics. 100% of vegetarians will die. 100% of joggers will die. Going to the gym is a good source of catching a cold and flu. So eat meat, and don't work out or run. That is how ridiculous most statistics are. My work is in the health care field. Some doctors are brilliant, some dumb as a bag of rocks, the majority are just regular women and men. What I've noticed is that often the humblest ones, who are open to listening, are the most brilliant. Those who are sure that they are always correct, and refuse to listen to both sides of a discussion, are the dumb ones. My father told me this many times growing up " A man who is sure his way is the only way, is usually wrong ".
  9. My father washed his hands in gasoline regularly, and us kids to if we were greasy from working in the shop. As the youngest child, I started by greasing the trucks and trailers when about age 7, that took me most of Saturday, and I was filthy when done. So outside we went where dad washed me up with gas. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...right.
  10. I think that they look better without paint. Just polish it, and go.
  11. Slight thread hijacking in ...3...2...1... Do heated floors cause long term issues with tires?
  12. Thanks for those kind words. If you wait till summer time, and come to BC, I'll gladly take you out in my 185 on floats. There are so many lakes and rivers around me to land on, the possibilities are almost endless. Once comfortable with floats, and your planes performance to get airborne, you will be going out on flights just to see a new little place. My 185 has the IO550 in it, I never flew it with the original 520, as I bought it this way. That and the STOL kit on it, it takes off surprisingly quick. Not to mention that its usually leaving wherever well under gross, as it has burned off fuel by then, and I cannot remember the last time I filled the seats.
  13. I was born in 1987 and have seen a lot of changes even since I was a kid.
  14. It was a regular practice in this area to dump oil on the ground until 10 or 15 years ago. Nowadays it is frowned upon, but not in the past.
  15. Interesting topic, I would be more concerned about the people and expensive things on the ground, that I could crash into. Hit a playground, school bus, park, 10 million dollar houses that burn, a hotel, office building, or busy hwy. Suddenly that 1 guy you took up for a ride, will be the least of your problems if you crash.
  16. Keep Yoda nearby and all is well.
  17. I live pretty near to the geographical center, of the province of British Columbia, the western most province in Canada. My 17 acre slice of heaven is beside a small lake. A farm not far away has a private airstrip he allows me, and a few others to use. Wish it had a nice heated hangar for me to use, but at least it has a lean to for parking. My little Honda generator supplies the power when needed. I prefer to keep my 185 on floats during the summer, and tied to my dock. https://www.brmbmaps.com/explore/canada/british-columbia/west-lake-provincial-park/west-lake-provincial-park/77324
  18. My Dane has flown with me extensively. He is always happy to do any sort of trip, be it car, plane, riding on my quad, or going for a run when i mountain bike or ride my horse. He has spent lots of time in Mexico with me, stayed at more than 50 hotels, rides in the canoe with me on multi day paddles, and can eat an entire apple pie in under 10 seconds. Every year for his birthday I make him an apple pie, and not once has there been any left in 10 seconds of giving it to him. My horse and dog are best buddies, and often run around together, then nap together.
  19. My great dane at 14000' had no problems at all.
  20. Amazing how they spend $25,000,000 to do something that the private sector can do for $1,000,000 and in 5% of the time. When the government put in a new culvert under my road in 2019, for a small creek that flows maybe 100 days per year, they made it into a huge deal. It took them a month, and a lot of equipment and people. To do what I alone could have done in a day, with 1 excavator. I hate just thinking about what that cost us tax payers.
  21. And that's how the fight began...
  22. My dad owns a trucking company, so does my brother, and uncle. They poured the used oil out on the yard to control dust, and did so for anlong time. Well they stopped maybe 10 years ago, and when I go there now, couldn't tell they ever dump a drop of oil in the yard, much less the oil from 300 semi truck oil changes per year.
  23. Maybe its where I live, but have never seen a gopher hole on a grass or dirt runway, and have been to a lot of them. Since they are pretty common around here, maybe ours are kept in better condition. If I see even a tiny little hole, I go fix it, as do many other pilots. I've been into paved strips in the USA that were much worse than most of the grass and gravel ones I've been to.
