  1. It looks like clear wx Sun July 3. I'll be there Mike if you and anyone else show up. Park at OXR Jet Ctr FBO, they'll take good care of you and my hanger is facing them. No fees here. Tom
  2. At perris skydive airport L65, all the parachuters walk across runway after landing. Some days they're trying for 100+ person rings. A lot of people almost everyday. Its kind like arriving in the middle of a Tom Cruise movie. The young skydivers have a lot of adrenaline energy. I was surprised they fuel the twin turboprop skyvans while running.....no tower and little communication. There is a restaurant, swimming pool, camping. The GA parking is across in dirt, not really welcoming to non skydivers aircraft but tolerated. It may be the most entertaining $100 burger in SoCal. Been going many years. Good luck.
  3. I would be glad to host at Oxnard OXR in my hanger either of the next two week ends like Sunday July 3 or 10. New rebuilt runway last year, both FBOs have crew cars, there are two ocean harbors 10 minutes away with many restaurants on harbors. Any interest? I'm there most days. The challenge this time of year is the marine layer which usually clears out before noon. There are great precision approaches but the marine layer dampens the fun at beach if it stays all day. Today was a beautiful day. Tom
  4. Assessors probably go to seminars together to think this stuff up. I protested here in Ventura Co CA many years ago. The day before the hearing, the assessor called and adjusted it down a little so we didn't need to go to hearing in front of his bosses. Its not worth the time for me to do it every year. On the phone he said the annual assessment includes sales tax because if I bought it today, I would pay sales tax.....I think total is about $2500/ year. T-Hanger is another $500ish. Good luck. Tom
  5. Maybe this could help: I spent a lot of money fixing the dash gear light that turned out, after a lot of shop time chasing it down, to the strobe voltage leaking thru the connector at wing tip to the 28V nav light thru the common connector. First local shop was a waste of time / money. Finally, months later at annual at Top Gun, Tom R figured it out. It was hard. It may be worth a look at the wingtip light electrical connectors. Good luck Tom
  6. Your right! I just ordered the color CBs. One time the stall vane came physically disconnected and went off at 10K' over OR coast. Took seemingly forever to figure out what loud horn blaring was and how to turn it off ( not expecting stall horn at 180 knots ) by pulling CB. But what is " STBY BUS BAT " CB in photo above: 6th row down, 4th from left. Thanks
  7. Thank You GeeBee and Steven757: 70A CB did " pull " off at about 3X more force than smaller breakers the first time. Subsequent pulls were 2X harder. I guess I should exercise them all once a year. Never have before. All good now. Nothing broken. Tom
  8. That part is what I thought about saving the battery. Its the 70A CB that doesn't " pull " out like the smaller ones. It pushes in but doesn't click. I'm worried that if I pull harder, I will break it. In the photo, you can see it is different than the smaller CBs to left. it is similar to 40A CBs to its right. So the question I'm having is how to " pull " the 70A CB.
  9. I don't have ash trays but the plastic interior light switch covers and headphone jack point covers are getting cracked. Could I see what it would take for your friend to make some new ones with the Falcon Mooney logo. 6 pieces per plane. Unless some one knows of a better option? Thanks Tom
  10. HI: I was re reading my POH and noticed the procedure for stdby ALT #2 below says: " pull Battery CB '. The run up procedure to test does not. I have done the runup test procedure many times but never needed an actual backup in emergency so never pulled this CB. The Battery CB does not seem to pull out like the smaller ones easily do. ( the other two adjacent 40A CBs also do not pull easily ). See photo. They only push in but come right back out with no click or snap. I am wondering what I am missing to "pull the battery CB " before I pull really hard and screw it up. Its probably really simple. I probably am not understanding how this CB works? Everything seems to be working fine unless this is a problem. Thanks for any help.
  11. That is a nice video with the different models. Where in Canada is this airport. Tom
  12. Hi. My #5 cyl CHT has always been 20 higher than others too. I have searched topic pixie hole and only see this thread applicable. The photo above from 2-17-18 seems to show a hole that would be below the top cowl intake so I'm wondering how this helps? I'm hearing there may be different methods that would be better but no photos. Any photos or advice appreciated. Thanks Tom
  13. What is typical lifespan of engine mounts? I'm pushing 20 years . Thanks Tom
  14. In Loretto MX they made me bring the airworthiness and registration inside the office, along with all the other documents. I had to use a knife to cut the plastic cover as it was kind of melted shut in the baggage compartment and i was in a hurry to pee after a 3 hour flight from Oxnard. At Mulege a soldier had a checklist that was very inclusive so I complied. I recommend to be prepared for it as I'm not sure what happens if you don't have all the items on the soldiers checklist...... Tom
  15. My hanger neighbor just bought a beautiful Bellanca Super Viking and had to get 15 hours dual. His previous plane is a Tomahawk for a few years. You can see what he did for training flights in short time on flightaware this month: N16AW. He said he is good to go now. Tom

  17. Two of my hanger neighbors had their planes ( Arrow and Tiger ) painted by Artcraft in the last two weeks. They are very proud and satisfied. About 20 AMU with a few extra stuff like hail repair, wx strip , etc. About 5 weeks away from home. To be honest, they really look nice, like a newly repainted car but you know how repainted cars don't usually look as good as a factory paint? I bet you know what I mean..... Just a novice observation...Why can't 20 AMU look better than new? Good luck Tom
  18. I use Savvy Mx too. It is nice on a Sunday at a distant desert airport KIFP with no services, to be able to have a Savvy Mx guy call me back in 30 minutes to discuss my possible aog problem and safety of continued flight. I like having Savvy interpret the EDM downloaded engine data a couple times a year and before annuals. I like discussing the annual inspection estimate with a Savvy MX guy to decide which items may not be required or done later a more economically way or options. I agree with what MikeOH said about $700. annual cost in the overall scheme. Savvy has always been prompt for me. Just my experience. Tom
  19. Congrats on your new Mooney! I've had a C model and now an R model: The Ovation tow bar from factory unfolds and holds a standard fuel sampler in one end so you can reach it under wing without crawling under. Especially nice for us mature pilots. I don't know if it would fit a J and older or not. My neighbor has a C model I can try and I can take a picture next time im at hanger if your interested. Someone else on here probably already knows? If it fits all Mooney nosewheels, I would suggest trying to find a new or used one. I use Stratus / ipad/ foreflight / RAM mounted from under the yoke. I like it but never tried a Sentry. I also have an iphone / foreflight holder where the handheld mike originally hangs. Wheel locks: If I am tied down outside on a trip I just put seat belts over yoke but very very careful of PTT and other buttons on yoke because when one button got knocked off accidentally, I tried super gluing back on and glued button down and had to call in Avionics shop $$ to fix my screw up. When plane is normally in hanger no locks but I leave all three doors cracked open with a towel over to keep dust out, to try to keep door seals working, with lubricant on seals also. I like the Knots-2-U door seal. Someone posted a pretty complete cleaner / tool list somewhere on here a month or three ago if you search. Good luck. Tom
  20. Yes, thanks for reminding me: https://ladd.faa.gov that's the link I used and hit " file a request " and I was blocked within a week. I hope this helps fellow pilots if they want. Tom
  21. Hi all: I'm probably way behind technology as usual but I got an email from i forgot who and found I can turn off flight aware tracking. I wish I had known this years ago. It was annoying that my staff always knew where I was and when I was flying in for an office visit. Can anyone with higher tech skills elaborate on how this works and if this is one time fix or are there are more tracking apps? N1029M - HARRIS CHARLES T TRUSTEE (THOUSAND OAKS CA) This aircraft (N1029M) is not available for public tracking per request from the owner/operator. That's my airplane! How do I track my airplane on FlightAware? FlightAware can provide aircraft owner/operators with secure access to their own flight data. Contact FlightAware for help. Thanks for any help. Tom
  22. Here is a video my PAX did. I cant edit so just go to minutes 4 and 11 to see Baja landings on dirt strips in Baja in an Ovation heavy with three PAX and plenty of fuel to go back to Loreto with huge reserve: These are fine graded dirt runways with regular pireps by BBP pilots. I wouldn't intentionally try anything rougher in my plane. Take Care Tom
  23. I had stall warning sound at 190K 11K' high above the lost coast CA on long xcountry OR to SoCal. Loud noise took over a minute to diagnose. Seemed like 10 minutes. I told SEA center I'm turning off radios / power IFR because can't hear anything. I finally pulled the circuit breaker. The whole stall devise had come loose from the wing and went inside. It took minutes IFR at high speed / altitude to diagnose the loud noise coming in headphones to me and PAX. I check it at every pre flight now. Take Care Tom
  24. Hi all: I've kept this since I replaced it on the plane with a 3 blade at the factory. 400 hours TT. NDH. Resealed at 350hours. Complete logs. I have no clue to any value. Can anyone give me an idea or make an offer PM. prop model: 2a34c241 blade model: 82pgc-6 hub serial 023006 blade ser xh30004 & xg30074 Thanks Tom
  25. I had a choice of Ovation or Bravo when I bought new in 2003. I went Ovation. I'm good with that looking back 20 years. Having 1070# useful is important to me. I have no AC, FIKI or O2 installed. I did have a few days delay in WA last Xmas due to ice. I'm ok with delays once in while as a trade off. I had no wx delays going to Maine and FL last summer. Yesterdays flight home from AZ on flightaware: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N1029M just lower than usual for winds. Fridays flight over there was at normal 10K'. Speeds about the same just more fuel lower. Passengers I fly with, especially wife, don't like wearing O2 up high. Good luck. Tom
