  1. Very interested in seeing where the average falls. I am an a&p at american airlines. I just bought a non flying mooney that I am resurrecting. Lots of people stopping by my hangar fishing around for some help with their planes. Have no idea what to charge. Glenn
  2. Finally make some headway on my 1964 m20e. I was cleaning the interior of the aft fuselage. I noticed the bay immediately behind the access panel was all painted black. All the other bays going aft were not painted. I am guessing because the battery is located in that area it was painted to prevent corrosion from acid spill or gases. Black sure makes it difficult to see anything. I'm cleaning out that bay, was thinking about not painting just acf50 or prime and paint with a lighter color. What does your Mooney look like behind the large access panel? Thanks Glenn
  3. They are working on an stc for m20e?
  4. I checked the logbook, it was actually installed in 1968 and they called it a mitchell wing stabilizer, no other documentation. Glenn
  5. Here are the pictures of my aftermarket Mitchell wing leveler installed in 1965
  6. Any possibility of scanning and sending it to me? I searched the internet, not much out there. Any repair shops that might have something? Thanks Glenn
  7. No vac servos, electric drive motor and mechanism attached to aileron tubes behind instrument panel. When I go back to the hangar I will post pics
  8. Mitchell system, definitely not a Britain
  9. It was not installed by mooney, it appears it is a self contained wing leveler, not slaved to any instuments. Box in the tail is a gyro, there is a toggle switch to turn on, a knob to adjust? And a automotive glass fuse that screws onto the panel. There is a motor and associated mechanisms connected to aileron control behind instrument panel. Aftermarket set up
  10. Hi, My 1964 M20E had a mitchell wing leveler installed in 1965. The box in the tail section is 1c359 mitchell gyro amplifier. Does anyone have an owners manual? Installation manual? Wire diagrams? Does anyone repair, support, supply parts for this system. I out power to it and the gyro fired up. Plane wont be flying for next several months, going through it. Thanks Glenn
  11. You can sign me up for a set of travel boards for my 64 m20e, when it come time to put some money down on a set, let me know. Thanks Glenn
  12. Now that mooney is closed and maybe for a while, maybe we can revisit the travel boards. I have a 1964 m20e and I am interested in acquiring a set of travel boards. I would like to buy them or if there is any data out there so that I can have the made locally. Thanks Glenn
  13. Tried to get my info into my profile. Stub spar has corrosion, had a mooney center check the factory. All parts were on hand to assemble the stub spar. Planned to order next week. Looks like I might have to go a different direction.

  15. Help! I need parts! Need a stub spar built by mooney, planned on ordering it next week.
  16. Looks like newer mooney part has teflon in the rod end. Probably not a good idea to braze.
  17. I would love to know who your bushing vendor is. Thanks Glenn
  18. So the brazed one is an actual Mooney part! Seems like you could get a lot more life out of the brazed one. The current replacement is a joke, it's a $45 rod end with a $100 hole drilled in it. No support, drilled hole shortly goes oblong. Imagine a solid rod end with machined flats with washers brazed on. Has to last a bit longer than what is offered today. What year and type of mooney did you remove the brazed rod end?
  19. It's just the rod end that got worn, very low time on the steering horn, the horn is fine
  20. It's an old plane, lots of rod ends with wear that adds up. Couple of spots had a lot of wear causing slop in the nose wheel steering. Just trying to replace parts with the most wear. Seems that through my research a better part may have been used before that was more resistant to wear. The rod end being sold today as the replacement part is not as good as what I suspect was an earlier design. Or did someone see this as a poor design and improved on it?
  21. I'm trying to resurrect my 64 m20e serial #311. Hasn't flown in 4 yrs. Lots of play in the nose wheel, logs show a fairly recent overhauled lasar steering horn installed. That part is ok. However it was parked outside tail into the wind with no rudder lock. The rod ends took a beating. Examining the steering horn assy, looks like most of the play was in the upper center rod end. Looked pretty cheesy, hollow rod end with a hole drilled in it. Appears that that hole double or tripples the price of that rod end. IPC 203 part number 720014, IPC 205 part number 914012-013. IPC 202 shows it, but no part number. While doing a google search, I found a part at texas salvage that looked like a better older style part, today being substituted with a lesser part with a hole drilled in it. The "better" part is also worn, but I would like to find a new part like this. This part on the ball bushing has written heim F31-14a Mooney 914030. Has flat spots machined to the sides and 2 washers brazed. Looks like it would wear better than the part number used today, the new one just flops around orcwill shortly after installation. Any thoughts opinions? Get a regular rod end an modify? Is this an original part before cost savings were implemented? Thanks Glenn
  22. Doing all by the book. Traceable hardware, calibrated torque wrench, proper safety wire, and all I am doing is the cage tension bolt, not a wing attach bolt. Lots of people trying to play mechanic with good intentions...... Glenn
  23. I'm doing sb208 insulation and tubing corrosion sb. Bolts looked rough so I am replacing the bolts. Wing nuts not part of sb, but if mine look rough, I will change them. Doing this myself. First time aircraft owner, halfway through getting my pilots license, I'm an a&p with very little GA experience. Lots of work to do on my 64 m20e that hasn't flown in 5 yrs
  24. Lasar carried both lengths, they were really cheap, lasar was out of stock, checked mooney, they had both lengths and much cheaper. Just got them last week. Dont forget the thin washers Glenn
  25. My 1964 m20e IPC calls for AN7H-16A Tension bolts, and that is what was installed. What am I suppose to reinstall?
