  1. I think I see what you mean, but the hole looks the same size to me as the others. Of course, I have newbie eyes. I will pass this along to the shop. Thank you. What is the CD for the plane from the FAA you mention? Anyway, all this help reminded me to make a Mooneyspace donation to support this great site.
  2. @Yetti I find it fascinating as well. Thanks for spotting that. I am not aware of any gear work since my 2019 purchase but we will go back through logs. Tried to orient myself to the pic to see what you do, but am having trouble. Would you mind highlighting the pic so I can see it as you do?
  3. Thank you, Clarence. I'll keep you apprised.
  4. Well past
  5. Here are some photos. Always interesting insight/commentary here on such things. Go, Mooneyspace.
  6. Woah!
  7. Thanks for these tips! Appreciate the fast response. I look forward to keeping you posted here as well.
  8. TLDR version of my first note: My ovation 3 has bent push pull rods. Who has experienced this, has thoughts on this, or knows specific causes? Things to look out for as we fix etc. Look forward to learning a lot as my plane goes through this repair process.
  9. Thank you. I appreciate the response. Please tell me more about improper maintenance, if able. Seems like a good learning opportunity for all of us around maintenance issues. No doubt this is going to be expensive.
  10. Had occasional nose shimmy. Appeared fixed after 2020 annual. Shimmy came back and fixed at 2021 annual (with new shop). At 2022 annual, gear made an odd noise when plane lifted and actuated. Got a second opinion with an MSC: push pull rods are bent and the spring tension is beyond limits. Can send pics. As you know, things are intricately connected, so likely more to discover/fix. The shop has seen this issue only once before, which was another long-body Mooney (a '98 O?). That led to a left gear collapse, damaging the wing and tail. That was my likely fate, which was thankfully avoided. Have we bounced before? Sure, a couple of mild ones. Teeth rattling landings or any skidding? No. Had a flat tire once in 2019. Otherwise, no issues. No over-weight landings. I fly final at 80kts, and often lower when light. Routinely land softly and short. I would think a shop would see bent rods more often if this were a landing issue. I know of no prior damage. I heard a motor actuate once before when turning on batt. That was odd. It occurred after the annual that discovered the gear noise, however. If it was the gear motor at some point, which should be inspected at 1,000 hours, could the jack screw bend the rods while the plane is on ground? Has anyone else, especially you MX folks, seen bent push pull rods and a cause? Is it rare and could it be a manufacturing defect? Commentary, thoughts, or experience welcome... She'll be down for a while. ==== Other stuff. 2006 Ovation 3. G1000 WAAS, GFC 700, TKS. Purchased 2019. Thorough Pre-buy that turned into an Annual. We have been meticulous with mx, preventive care, and upgrades. Made a number of repairs/upgrades on purchase, including latest G1000 update, ADSB in/out, fixed a minor hangar rash, serviced AmSafe belts. Happy with that work. MX since included TKS repair, new starter, baffles, GAMIjectors, landing height system. Cylinder #5 heat solved! All this may not be relevant. Other gremlins: Recently, elec up trim stopped working after the G1000 booted, or was inconsistent, starting in 2021. Auto pilot was fine. Down trim was fine. After latest database update, trim started working again.
  11. I had consistently high #5. Pixie holes did not help. Put in GAMIjectors and Gee-Bee baffles this spring and #5 behaved in the hottest weather this summer.
  12. Will this be recorded and available at a later date? Thank you.
  13. I have been enjoying these daily weather briefs. Highly instructive stuff. The repeated, daily attention on weather builds a lot of proficiency.
  14. This started happening to me last year. It got a bit better after I did the MagVar update. Generally, however, I get multiple errors and notices after installing a new update. I just patiently given it time and re-start a couple of times. It appears that it just takes time, and perhaps a reboot, for the update to replicate across both computers. Once done, it has been fine.
  15. I look forward to hearing @donkaye 's PIREP of integrating this into his landing methods as a repeatable process with this additional aid. When he finds he is pulling power, moving into landing attitude based on height, etc. etc. or any other observations and techniques.
  16. It would be wonderful if it made sense for @Microkit to provide/upgrade install instructions to help others avoid removing the glareshield, if possible. Each plane may be a bit different, but there are hopefully enough universals to helps shops and owners save a bit of time. Great opportunity to learn from the first installs. Looking forward to installing mine!
  17. Something for all of us to monitor. While my outcome is the same as yours, something was creating this issue, starting last year.
  18. I had this problem prior to the mag var upgrade. Precisely this issue, which started last year. Mag var upgrade made it better and I hav don’t had this problem once all databases were updated and sync’d. Per my prior comment, it takes time and a couple restarts to help this happen.
  19. Since last year, I have been getting these terrain, Gia, dB crosstalk and other failures when updating. I have found that by giving it time to replicate across and restarting more than once, it goes away. I suspect something changed in the files or how it updates. It seems to take longer to replicate, or more than one startup. One option might be to load the PFD and MFD lower slot databases separately and individually, instead of replicating from the mfd.
  20. My Ovation's Reiff plug is next to the oil filler neck as well.
  21. Good point. I sometimes do this as well.
  22. Midshipman's hitch. I end with two half hitches to secure instead of one. This is much more secure and less likely to come apart. Midshipman's is a form of taut line; the second wrap that pops down into the first wrap under friction is called an Awning Hitch. West Valley is just a modified bowline.
  23. Particularly worrisome are the moose at pattern altitude.
