Flying to Palermo Sicily
Philip France 13 replied to Philip France 13's topic in European Mooney Pilots
Hello, yes the length is in meters and elevation in feet's, it took me 70% of the runway length to take off and there are buildings at the end of the runway, this is the reason we limited to two on board my brother and me both pilots’ and had our wife's to join by airline to Catania… by the way my plane is a M20J MSE of 1993 -
Hello, This to share with you my last trip from Aix en Provence south of France to Sicily. I flew direct from Aix Les Milles LFMA to Palermo Bocca di Falco LICP, IFR flight until approaching Palermo where we transited to VFR for landing at LICP. The duration was about 4h00, to note the runway is relatively short and upslip so please use runway 17. You must contact aeroclub and send in advance a form with your data and time of arrival. The people are very friendly and is the only place for refueling in Sicily so is suggested as port of entry. Also be carreful of weight in summer when we took off mid day the temperature was above 36C We also flew to Comiso LICB across the island easy VFR and friendly control with Roma and Catania. We stayed some days with friends in Ragusa enjoyed the fantastic food and hospilality. on the way back made a stop again in Palermo Bocca di Falco for refueling and flew again direct to Aix LFMA. The flight is easy and fully compatible with Mooney range. Only point we were 2x POB to be within limits taking off full fuel out of LICP. Hope these short notes will help you and motivate you to fly to Sicily Best Regards Philip

Hello On M20J MSE : my way of managing descent is using 6NM to lose 1000ft, 5000ft for example must start t odescent 30NM befote. If too short i slow down to 120kt and retract the gears, the. Go to 100kt or even 90kt full flaps and 500 to 700ft per minute you will use your altitude and still be able to fly the plane safely. IFR approach into LFLP Annecy in the alps is quite steep and it works well. philip

Hello, i have been few times in Croatia : Pula, Split, Brac, Dubrovnik,... very easy flying with ATC and GA friendly for both IFR VFR also on the ground. I have seen sarakevo is now open for Ga (was not few years ago). This country is not un EU you should check the rules for importing your plane. As general rule in Europe EU you will have to pay for import taxes 20% of the value of the plane. You may keep US registrations using trustee company. As average also fuel cost is 2x the cost of US. Also to check for AVGAS availability in Sarajevo is indicated no AVGAS if you are a « visitor ». I am based in LFMA France with my M20J flying across Europe is not a problem. Philip

My plane is M20J MSE of 1994 Serial 24-3290, Can you tell me the best option repair or replace & where to go for it ? Thanks, Philip

ALT FIELD Voltage Problem & Breaker engaged
Philip France 13 replied to Philip France 13's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Hello This is to informyouthat the regulator has been repaired and installed back in the plane everything solved working well Thanks Philip -
Hello on a flight from Marseille France to San Lluis Menorca under IFR FLIGHT : the ALT voltage red lamp Went ON and ALT FIELD breaker engaged. Tried to push the breaker it did pop out immediately. I decided to divert to LFMP Perpignan where i landed without problem. On the ground went to repair station we found the battery power connector was lose we tighten it properly and the problem seemed to be fixed. Made a new flight plan and when for refueling after few minutes same issue came back. I do believe the voltage regulator failed after testing again no more voltage was supplied. Anybody had similar experience? This is a M20J 24V version. I am getting the voltage regulator repaired but like to be sure to test the alternator circuit properly before to turn on the power back. Can also somebody tell me about the little wired diode installed on the brushes between plus and gnd of the alternator Thanks Philip

New GTN750 with Gma35c audio
Philip France 13 replied to Philip France 13's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Yes the two altimeters are mandatory in europe for IFR CERTIFICATION of the airplane -
I have installed new radios GTN750 plus Audio GMA35c it a big difference compared to previous GNS430. The main reason was to get WAAS capability for GNNS approach in Europe many airports no longer have ILS and GNNS allows you to fly to more locations. I found the new GTN750 much more user friendly easy to enter frequencies enter routes load approaches... and the GMA35c is so much improvement in sound quality and you can isolate the pilot from passengers also connect your phone via BLE and listen to music in the air. You can get the replacement at Mouser electronics cost below 10$ per part. I suggest you buy two just in case of issue during mounting. Easy to replace need to be soldered with iron. Philip
