The airport appears to have been decimated. The video looks like what happened in Nashville. a LOT of planes lost. was going to post a video I have put don’t know how.

If it’s about comfort and convenience and probably safety as well, and not about the money, it would be a nice option. But for what it cost me to fly my Mooney every year I could get about 6-8 hours on a jet card. About 15-18 for what it costs for the Aerostar. A 25 hour card is about 125k. it isn’t a comparison to any piston, probably pretty close to a turboprop, but you would be able to fly over 100hrs for that cost.

The fact that an inexperienced pilot could fly in formation land an f4 after an incident like that with no experience in the plane is nothing short of incredible. And at twilight with limited visibility, a broken windshield and limited controls… anyone who has ever tried to fly formation knows exactly what I am saying.

29.5 and 17gph is definitely not ROP. It is a tad higher than im accustomed to but tit is all that matters. I used the lean page a few times but you don’t need to use it every time, once you know your ff. at those power settings, ROP would be 19-21ish gph

Sticky traps are hit and miss. a slim Jim in a good old fashion snap trap always works. They have poor eyesight and travel along perimeters, so putting them up against the walls is solid advice.

I hope you know I was not bashing your plane as it’s configured. I was curious, and am certain anyone seriously looking has the same questions. good luck, it’s a beautiful paint scheme and it’s obvious the engine has been run lightly with the large derating.

So I saw this the other day, and while I knew the story of the evolution of the TBM, I wondered what happed to this airplane? this was not the turbine, but a 360hp piston. did it get destroyed or is in the cobwebs at the factory?

What does it cost to convert this to 310? is it just prop governor and fuel flow like the o2?

It’s pretty much the same, the stc only provides a bump of 200rpm to obtain the extra hp. I can’t remember if it’s prohibited from using in cruise, but I don’t know anyone who cruises at 2700 and it’s usually just used for take off, and the extra 30hours VERY noticeable. so aside from a higher fuel flow for the climb and takeoff, there isn’t any difference in the poh power settings. I personally don’t see a big noise enough reduction lower than 2500 to make it worth the speed loss for the lower rpm so I always used 2400-2500 for cruise.

Without knowing that setup, I would bet you should absolutely see sea level at 12k. simply because if boost tapers off that early, you aren’t getting much benefit at all, before blaming the turbo, check for induction leaks i have two Ray jays on the right side of my Aerostar that are failing to produce full boost and they believe the gap between the fan blade and housing had has eroded, I have full boost up to about 8k and slowly drops off up to 19k, and then stalls at 25-26”. I should see at least 29.2 all the way to 25k.

This subject comes up quite frequently here, I’d suggest searching the forum, there are more than a few threads with plenty of perspectives. I bought an ovation with 13ish hours to finish my pool and instrument. I appear to be somewhat of an outlier, but it can be done.

Absolutely, and yes. It’s static cling so the only trouble I’ve ever had is when the oat gets too cold it is harder to make it stick.

“Gila” static cling film. You can get on Amazon or at autozone. it’s about $35 per roll which is almost enough to do the whole plane. You can cut it into squares or rectangles, or install like regular tint. I actually applied it on the entire back windows, and carry four or five squares to put wherever I need it, you can double it up when the sun is really bad. it doesn’t get in the way like those useless factor visors, and folds away neatly when you don’t need it. even if you end up wanting something else you’re only out $35…

One may appear on my Mooney in the future! this should never have been changed. It is such a simple and elegant insurance policy.

Absolutely! It’s the psi it can tolerate that makes all the difference. the product I am referring to is not available anywhere other than the sherwin Williams dealer. they will specify and guarantee a product for you, which will have directions and specifications for install. All require grinding. I can probably find the spec for if you are serious about going this route. im struggling with the decision myself. If you think you will be there more than 3 years it is probably a good idea to do the high end job. if not, don’t grind and do the Home Depot stuff.

I have done many floors with many different products. if you want to do I correctly and make it last, you need to grind the floor, and use a very high end sherwin Williams product directly from their stores. the good stuff is a two part epoxy and costs north of $150 per gallon. There are a LOT of products cheaper, but none of them will last like the good stuff. I have been driving forklifts, and dropping heavy things on it for years and it still looks new. All the cheaper alternatives I used before don’t bond the same way. and if you do not grind and properly prep the floor, nothing will stay down.

That is such a simple and logical insurance plan. I remember noticing on one of mine, the new style loop had about 3/16” ground off of it. I honestly can’t say I didn’t do it, I certainly never felt or heard anything, but it’s so thin and fragile it would not take much to bend or wear through. The skid is just good sense. I wonder if it can be legally put on a long body?

Up to 18k for one person or 15k for two people. At that weight you could just get two, but they aren’t cheap!

The tbm is a really nice plane. It is a completely different class from any piston, and even the meridian. It is built like a military plane. It is solid and quality everywhere. I was surprised at how tight it is for the pilots, and you miss the position of the Mooney as well as have limited recline on the backs of the seats, but I logged some time in one, flying to Alaska and back from south Florida.
