  1. @MB65E ultra leather with factory rails.
  2. Dad is 75 and has been flying 60 of them. He’s flown through the mountains low level like this a couple times in a Carbon Cub. It was my first time through. One of the keys to doing this is to have a few routes planned so you can change dictated by weather. In fact during the video, we abandoned our initial planned route and went further north due to cloud levels. Flying the valleys where roads, etc. exist in case you have a engine failure you can land. I would not have done this trip solo. This was something we have wanted to for a while. We decided to do it before we regretted never doing it...
  3. @ZuluZulu I like them. I’ve flown these and Zulu’s. I am a fan of both.
  4. ForeFlight on the iPad. I have it connected to the Garmin GMA 35c audio panel via Bluetooth.
  5. Makes me think of one of the clips in this video... Dad tells me to follow the “W” when pointing to my HSI... which elicited the sarcastic response from me... That would be “West” Karma...
  6. You know... the way the sun sets
  7. @Marauder Naa you can edit it
  8. Lol. Mistake.... Whoops... got hasty on my titling without thinking. Thanks for catching before this got more embarrassing. Think a pilot would know which way he is going!
  9. My Dad and I took off on a seven day adventure, 36 flight hours flying round trip across the USA, ocean to ocean. Just finished editing the Westbound part of the trip to the Pacific Ocean. Part 1: Westbound: Part 2: Eastbound:
  10. Yes, that is mostly what we use. Most of the interiors we do are in cabin class aircraft that require burn certs. The Skandia foam is impregnated with flamabilty resistant materials.
  11. Funny guys. Actually these photos I took for Aviation Consumer Magazine as they are doing a traffic system technical overview, basically a rundown of TAS, TCAS II and ADS-B. I met the editor, Larry Anglisano at this year’s NBAA. He needed a good-looking panel action shot of the whole panel in cruise, with screens on the traffic page for the cover and his article. So I took several for him. This is just one of the shots. Thus all the traffic pages...
  12. With where your G500 TXi is placed on your panel, I would not like the PFD on the right side either; it would have to be on the left side to look balanced. And then I would definitely want a GCU 485. My G500 TXi has the PFD centered over my yoke, or when in split mode, the split is directly over my yoke. This makes the screens looked visually balanced regardless of whether you are on full screen PFD or split mode with PFD on the left or the right. This is the only configuration where I think the PFD on the right side is not offputting. And is currently only really possible when you are using the engine EIS as the split occurs at the same place the full screen PFD is centered on. See photos. Without the EIS, the split is offset either to the left or the right on a 40/60 split so it can never lined up directly on the same centerline as the full screen PFD. If Garmin allowed for a full screen 50/50 PFD/MFD split instead of a 40/60 split without the EIS, one could center everything over the yoke without the EIS. Maybe a future software feature? Currently the only way to get a 50/50 split like I have is with the EIS. In my opinion, having the centerline of the PFD and the split over the yoke with the PFD on the right this is the only un-clumsy way to do it without a GCU 485. I originally was going to get a GCU 485 when I did my upgrade, but there was no place for me to fit it and have the G500 TXi centered over my yoke. So I chose to have the centered PFD and have the PFD on the right when in split mode. This allows me to use my right hand for all of the altitude settings and changes, which is what you want instead of having to cross your hand over the yoke or switch hands.
  13. I emailed Steve, our sales manager, to be on the lookout for your request.
  14. I flew for a couple weeks with the traditional PFD on the left, and flew for a couple with it on the right. I finally settled on the untraditional on the right. I just use the right knob for the PFD so much it felt too awkward to use the left knob in split screen for the PFD. Although if I was in Don's situation now that I see his panel, I would go with the PFD on the left in his plane. I would just always go full screen to twist the right knob.
  15. Yes. A single 7” PFD was always an option but you you needed a backup. You could have backed up with another 7” reversionary MFD or steam gauges or L3 ESI 500, etc. Now you can use a G5 for backup when it’s approved. The Garmin blog said that the 7” is going to available as a horizontal PFD too; not just vertical
  16. I read this on Beechtalk: Will the G5 be approved as standby instrument for Aspen PFD ? I'm interested in a G5/GFC500 combo but only if it's able to sync heading bugs, altitude select, airspeed bugs, barometric pressure setting with the Aspen EFD1000. GFC600 is not option for me, as only the GFC500 is expected to be STC'd for Mooney's. I was told by Garmin this will never happen. Aspen protocols are different and Garmin uses Canbus. I looked into this a while back. Wanted to install a G5/GFC500 in the TC position since I have an Aspen. The GTN can either talk to the Aspen or the G5 but not both.
  17. G5 approved as standby for G500 or TXi VNAV in GTN 750/650 for instrument descent planning within a flight plan. Step down altitudes, etc. QWERTY keyboard in GTN 750/650 GFC 500 autopilot now approved with G500 or TXi with seemless backup integration with G5. New TXi display orientations and configurations. Plus more... https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/aviation/txi-flight-displays-gtn-navigators-gfc-autopilots-and-g5-electronic-flight-instrument-updated/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GarminInTheAir+(Garmin+(Aviation+News+-+U.S.))
  18. Rmag’s tremendously detailed response: not sure if anyone has done it yet in a J or K. Yes it is possible. Preference is also possible.
  19. @JohnB I put a video review which is essentially my PIREP worth 56,640,000 words. I arrived at this worth using the standard a picture is worth a thousand words valuation. My video is 1,888 seconds long, 30 frames per second, times 1,000 . I will link it below for simplicity. Don: In my video you can see I swapped it back to the standard PFD on the left. I wanted to try it both ways and after doing that, I can still say I prefer the right twist, it is just more convenient. I found myself tapping full screen PFD and twisting with my right hand. So tapping fulll screen, twisting, and then tapping MFD button to bring the MFD back if you need it is going to be my preferred method if I keep it this way. I am trying to talk myself into keeping it this way since it is the traditional setup. Switching back and forth only takes less than a minute for an installer to do for anyone that wanted to try both configurations.
  20. @M20FanJesse I was watching Trent Palmer’s newest YouTube video. He had a plug for WingSwap at the end of his video. He said your a friend of his? I’m a fan of his channel. Since he’s a professional drone pilot/cinematographer I really dig his pilot video content style.
  21. What makes slips not available?
  22. If you want to see what the panel looked like before the TXi see this thread:
  23. Garmin trade in program good through the end of this year. All the guts of the G500 stayed in the plane, it was essentially a screen upgrade.
  24. All your critical engine info is displayed on the static sidebar. The MFD engine page just shows more detail and computational info; you only really need to go to it for leaning and even then it is just a knob twist and one screen button. So the stuff you need to see is all part of the normal screen scan. A definite con of touchscreens is that it can be taxing trying to hit screen buttons in turbulence. They do build in ledges for your hand to grab, but I’ve definately mishit buttons on the GTN 750 while bouncing... That being said, I was perfectly content to keep the JPI EDM 930, I just ran out of panel space with the bigger TXi screen so I had to jump in with both feet...
