  7. Thanks for your replies. Apologies--I should have been more clear. Yes, my E has a RayJay TN and it was installed in 1977 according to the logs. Unfortunately, I don't have the original STC paperwork. I haven't heard anything about a different fuel servo or seen one in the pictures of RayJay kits. Hopefully, one of the RayJay owners can confirm. thanks, Aaron
  8. Hello all, Long time lurker, infrequent poster. Question for you RayJay experts out there: Is the fuel servo used with the RayJay STC motor installed on an E/F the same as a non-STC'd standard A1A motor? I'm in the middle of an overhaul and the engine shop has asked for a copy of the STC to see if there is something different about the fuel servo. thanks, Aaron
  9. IMO, the problem is not acquisition cost, it's lack of pressurization. Turboprops are efficient in the flight levels, especially above FL250. Flying unpressurized airplanes in the flight levels is really uncomfortable for pilots and passengers. I think this thing will burn too much fuel at low altitude to be useful for anything other than a bush plane.

  11. Depending on how long ago it was, your instructor's entry in your logbook may contain his SSN. Check to see if his certificate number is 9 digits. If you have his full name and SSN it should be easy to find him (for a small fee, of course). A quick search of the Google showed several sites and a few YouTube videos with more info on how to do it. Good luck! -Aaron

  14. There's nothing magic about pearl or metallic colors--only that they really need to be a two-stage (base coat + clear coat) for durability and longevity. You can paint metallic/pearl colors in single-stage (no clear coat) but you won't get the same gloss and paint oxidation will be more of an issue. You can't wet sand and buff single-stage metallics/pearls because you end up removing the flakes and it will look uneven. With clear-coats, you can wet sand the clear and buff it back to shine without affecting the base coat. Virtually all automobiles use multi-stage paints now. They really are that much better. I suspect that the shop you visited paints a single-stage white base and then uses single or multi-stage accent colors. Paint's cheaper and it's less labor that way and this is still a fairly common way to paint airplanes and industrial equipment. If I were in your shoes I would paint the entire plane with two-stage paint. It will cost a little more but will be worth it, IMO. I've seen some really nice paint jobs in these forums and it's really easy to tell an aircraft that is painted with a base coat/clear coat. And then there's 3-stage paint, but that's another story. Basically, it's a base coat, clear coat with pearl mixed in or a translucent coat, and then a clear coat on top. 3-Stage colors are used on some high-end cars, especially the white pearl Cadillacs and the rasberry pearl colors on several models. Unnecessarily expensive and can be a real bear to color match if you need future repairs. Good luck! -Aaron

  18. Trick question. Hank will never catch Bonal if they cruise at the same speed. My Saturday evening math shows that Hank will arrive 24 seconds after Bonal, assuming they both instantly accelerate to cruise speed at the top of the climb. Total flight time: Hank, 39 minutes, 19 seconds. Bonal, 38 minutes, 55 seconds.
