  1. I am speechless......... THANK YOU
  2. I debated between a video answering all her questions (45min) and a short funny one. Especially when I explained what every gauge did. But I figured since most of my videos are informative, I would change it up and just make it funny so it appeals to a broader range this time. I may publish a full length one if enough people ask.
  3. Took mom on her first flight. I thought you guys would get a kick out of this. I think I've been asked less questions in all of my check rides combined! LOLEnjoy!
  4. Sorry! LOL I misread your post. I thought you were asking how. My bad.
  5. Back to your original question. If you want the Hold drawn out on the IFD (I would), its a 2 step process. Step 1 Create the waypoint FMS/WPT select "NEW", select "format" (changes to Rad/Dist) then enter your fix, radial & distance. You can also edit the name of this waypoint. Step 2 add the waypoint to your flight plan and enter the hold information as usual.
  6. LOL well they are both very good at what they do!
  7. That video really makes me miss my Mooney!
  8. Take a screen shot of the farm you want to be your thumb. then you can select custom thumbnail in Youtube.
  9. I have 18-20 trips to SGJ a year. Usually Tuesday-Friday, Occasionally Tuesday-Monday. Been using the FBO, wondering if anyone has hanger available hanger space?

    Tail Stalls

Here is the FAA's latest video on tail stalls:
  11. As usual, Die Hard Garmin people want to make the IFD sound like its so hard to use. Step 1. Press FMS to take you to WPT page Step 2. Press NEW Step 3 Press the Lat/Lon button. This changes the changes the waypoint entry from Lat/Lon to Rad/Dist. You can now enter the FIX, RADIAL & Distance you desire.
  12. Pictreed, I show it in the video but simply go to the FMS page and expand your flight plan to be full screen.
  13. Awesome thanks!! I will forward this to my buddy who was trying to figure it out!! Great example of why competition is great for the consumer!
  14. First of all. As a business owner if you can charge your customers the same money for an item and still save them money why wouldn't you. After all you are in business to maximize your profits and now your doing so while saving your customers. (Something Garmin could have done but put their profits ahead of its customers.) When you factor cost of installation to swap a 430/530 to a 650/750 vs a 430/530 to a 440/540, Avidyne is less expensive. You must take that into account as EVERYONE has to pay for installation of the units. Hence, if you are upgrading (and most people are), Avidyne just saved you a tone of money. No Avidyne is not Garmin and they have never pretended to be. Just because because they compete for the same customers doesn't make one company trying to be another. I'm an iPhone guy. They revolutionized smart phones. I'm thrilled Samsung & Andriod exist and keep Apple on their toes. But that doesn't mean Samsung and Andriod are trying to be Apple. They are merely fighting for market share. Again I'm not knocking Garmin. I have owned and still own Garmin products. But to think they are the end all and no other product can compete solely based on a brand name is a little naive. I appreciate this friendly debate! Cheers!! P.S. Mac over PC, Chevy muscle cars over Ford (even though I actually own neither as I prefer German cars) & I'll keep politics out of this conversation
  15. Don't you think Avidyne's presence in the market has kept prices down? If you don't believe Avidyne is competition for Garmin then you are sadly mistaken. It is Garmin's customers that Avidyne has marketed to and has taken a market share of.
  16. Since there is so much debate and misinformation between the Garmin GTN & Avidyne IFD here is another video I made showing how you can fly an unpublished hold with the Avidyne. I searched for a video showing how to fly unpublished holds in the GTN and after my head stopped spinning I fell asleep. I was shocked how difficult is was with the Garmin unit and how easy it is with the Avidyne. Enjoy!
  17. Garmin makes a GREAT product, no doubt about it. We can also thank them for raising the bar for GA 20 years ago. Henry Ford was credited with the assembly line and making cars "affordable" (relative term back then). Yes we can thank him. But just because he revolutionized car manufacturing doesn't mean years later Ford is still the best. The same holds true for Garmin. Yes they make a great product. But don't think companies like Avidyne haven't raised the bar even for Garmin. In the end we all win. Competition has both kept cost down (hard to believe I know) and has forced the companies to continue to be innovative. Eliminating either company would only hurt us, the consumer.
  18. I love love to hear an example of what takes to many button pushes...... Yes it has recent. Sub menu to see a map?? It does take you to the Map page. however if you want to see an approach plate you can either press MAP again or the tab. I find that the "GARMIN" guys are like my PC friends. They have never touched a MAC yet they can tell me why a PC is so much better. My advice is to seek out a person who owns and flies with a IFD unit and let him or her show you the feature of the unit before coming to a decision. I was a Garmin guy until I used the IFD and I have not looked back. I just showed my buddy with a G500 & GTN my IFD and he is looking into adding the IFD to his 2nd nav/com come because he like it so much. I'm not saying to buy one over the other. I'm simply saying you would be doing yourself an injustice if you take the advice of others without first hand experience.
  19. Maybe its because I'm cooler then you or maybe its because I'm on a Mac Its probably the Mac LOL its just a : p without the space between.
  20. Thanks, so am I! A positive resolution is all have ever asked for. Thanks for watching my video. Between work, editing videos for my YouTube channel and BT, I'm running out of time during the day. LOL But I loved the Mooney community when I owned my Mooney so I will try to spend more time here. As long as I don't end up missing my plane to much!
  21. UPDATE: The President of GCA has reached out to me and apologized for my experience. He has offered to wire the audio free of charge and reimburse me for my fuel expense in an effort to make things right. Carusoam, still questioning the validity of my post and my approach? My airplane will be down for it's annual before I can address this. Stay Tuned...
  22. There are MANY was to enter things into the IFD. I was just showing one way. You can do almost all of it with just the nobs if you prefer. At the beginning of the first video I show how to enter an actual flight plan. I show how to enter unpublished holds in the second.
  23. If you want the aural call outs you will need to have two wires added from the IFD to your audio panel.
  24. At that point the panel was apart and they wires were everywhere. I think trying to stop and get my plane back would cause caused even greater aggravation unless I was willing to pay for several days labor with nothing to show for it.
  25. I have been in contact with Avidyne. First when I had an issue with the not receiving the ADS-B in. Then I forwarded GCs email to Avidyne when the shop said the IFD call outs were not STCd. They reached out to GC immediately and corrected them and forwarded them the information needed to show GC that was an incorrect statement. Again when GC calmed that every option would be additional wiring. Avidyne sent the page showing is only one connection (2 wires). I also reached out to another contact I have at Avidyne. Avidyne has been great and was going to look into the problem to see if they need additional training etc.. They agreed that it impacts them negatively.
