  1. Byron and Mcclelan airports have avgas under $5 a gallon right now.
  2. Well at least Mooney annuals are less expensive than Bonanza annuals!
  3. Amazing! Still way cheaper than buying a used cirrus or new 182 and just as fast!
  4. Ouch that's painful!
  5. Well I have choice to buy either a used Porsche or a used Mooney for same price. Mooney wins! Besides I already have a good fast car. Looking at a few with decent AP, IFR Garmin GPS now key is finding decent engine and airframe that will not a 50K replacement right away so I can put $ into engine fund.
  6. While I am not an A&P there is a mixed view that I have about running an engine safely way past TBO. The cylinders may be fine but the add on components such as hoses, vacuum pump, etc wear out a lot faster.
  7. True unless one has a business and can at least deduct the cost.
  8. I decided to pass. I see 231 with low time engine for same or less price as the 262. Rather hedge bets on engine with less time and better panel.
  9. Wow awesome J!
  10. Thanks Zane, If I get a killer deal and the planes checks out then it might be a good one.
  11. I think the reason why VOR will be around for another few decades besides the cost to decommission it will be as a backup nav system in case a solar flare knocks out GPS satellites.
  12. Dang I need to move close to KLEE for that cheaper avgas! It's like $6+ gallon here in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia!
  13. Do you mean the CJ behind the Modworks 262 STC of Mooney Mart fame? Ah I see why http://mooneyspace.com/topic/8048-is-mooney-mart-dead/
  14. Most sellers will not pay for the prebuy based on my experience but are flexible on where to have the prebuy performed.
  15. For a prebuy on a Mooney taking it to a MSC is a must to me to have peace of mind during the purchase process. Since the 231 market is soft right now, I'd rather avoid buying a plane with a runout engine or outdated avionics.
  16. Thanks guys, I'm going to pass on the plane past TBO even though what Busch of Savvy says may be true it's risk I don't want to take at this point in time. I'll keep saving and looking for a well maintained low time engine 231. Scott
  17. My biggest concern besides safety is getting an unexpected 50k bill the first couple of years of buying a plane. I've flown non turbo Mooney like 201 and M20F but little experience with turbo charged models.
  18. My bank does a pretty good job evaluating the value of an aircraft based on lending standards. These come in lower than vref and close to what aircraft bluebook valuated a plane to be worth. Then it's a matter of negotiation between the buyer and seller.
  19. Agree I guess my biggest concern would be the cost to replace the engine way past TBO. I'd be looking at 40K plus the first year or two if the engine goes to hell in a hand basket.
  20. Cool thanks Don, fortunately I've found few candidates with the Merlyn automatic waste gate. If I move on the Texas plane I should meet up with you guys. Texas has my favorite BBQ and they know how to do smoked brisket better than anyone. It will be fun to visit Mooney factory in Kerrville too.
  21. Thanks I will ask Top Gun what a major overhaul and new engine costs for a 262. Now on the 262 would that be a new 252 engine ?
  22. Funny I have the exact opposite problem! In the M20F that I fly I have to use rudder extension pedals otherwise the yoke winds up in my chest and I'm way too close to the panel. At 5'6" it helps to fly in comfort. Fortunately a fairly cheap fix. At least a Mooney comes with dual yokes unlike most Bonanzas that I've flown.
  23. I priced out the 262 at 65-80k on bluebook and retail site. It has IFR non Garmin GPS and I'd need to add either a Garmin 430W or 650 plus mode s transponder to comply with the FAA 2020 ADSB mandate in addition to possible engine reserve. Other than that the plane looks awesome!
  24. Thanks well the good news is from what I gather a 262 is almost a 252 from firewall forward except for the dual 24v alternators.
  25. Looking at a 262 with 2000 hours appears to be in good shape at fair price but main concern is TBO is 1800. Would you still consider purchase of a Mooney way past TBO?
