There is nothing wrong with that, I mean it is an honnor for him and his family to meet the Pope. What does it change for enyone else. I guess Hukababy (my nickname for you know who) would have liked to be there as well !!!

I'm setting this up on my Mooney this year, getting the Reiff system and already have a small Honda Generator E2000i, what size of generator do you have, this is what I got : http://powerequipment.honda.ca/generators/inverter-series/eu2000i I have always been reluctant to carry it in the plane, it is about 50 lbs, and has gasoline inside of it. I was told that I could run 100LL in it, but would need to have it clean more often. Would be interested in your thoughts, not sure Canadian laws would even permit the transport if it in the plane, maybe if it was drained of all the fuel...

Well, I had my 40th birthday the other day and my favorite gift of all was from my sister, combining 2 things I love and that you usually can't combine together, drinking wine and flying. I thought it was a cool gift for someone that is obsessed with planes !!!

As my previous answer, here is what ForeFlight support sent me several weeks ago before the release of 7.3 : """"""""" Hi Houman, Gary here - thanks for your email. Here's some follow-up information regarding the FlightStream and Stratus working together (FFM=ForeFlight Mobile): The FS210 uses BlueTooth and the Stratus 2S uses wireless. Both may be connected at the same time. With 7.2, FFM with the FS210 supports using GDL88 for ADSB weather and traffic, pressure altitude, GPS position, and AHRS. Since you do not have a GDL88, your configuration with a FS210 would not include the ADSB weather and traffic. With 7.3 of FFM (available soon) , support for flightplan exchange is added. You can simultaneously obtain weather and traffic from your Stratus 2S via the wireless and the other functions from the Bluetooth/FS210. When you upgrades\ to a GDL88, you will no longer need the Stratus 2S other than as a backup. Currently with 7.2, the ADSB weather and traffic needs to come from the GDL88 as a single source when there is a GDL88 available. Take a look at that and let us know if you have any questions -- we're happy to help! Gary Peterson Pilot Support Team ForeFlight, LLC """""""""

Well I bought the CSM-50E and they work great, alarm and also extension for kids, also it can keep history of your numbers. The battery usually last several hours and you can use it while plugged into the usp cigarette connection. Well worth it. I find the pharmacy ones a bit on the cheep side and this is one thing I don't want to go cheep on... Here is the model. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IWOKTC0/ref=asc_df_B00IWOKTC03897028?smid=A1PZW27L88W9HW&tag=nextagmp-20&linkCode=df0&creative=395129&creativeASIN=B00IWOKTC0&ascsubtag=-8790307373345049463 P.S. Over 14000, I wear it continusoly without ever removing it and position my finger on yoke in a way I can always see the numbers...

Are we sure there is no classified information here... lol !!!

I actually do have 2 child headsets, I bought them from Sportys, I believe they are Sigtronics, not sure what model... My son used 1 for several flights long time ago, but finally prefers the ANR Bose spare that I have so I have not used them for more than a year. I can see what model they are and if you want sell the to you for a discount, but my advice is depending on the age of your kids and how often they fly, buy them good ANR, they will be happier and less potential for a hearing loss.

Proper Procedure in the Event of a Loss...
Houman replied to MyNameIsNobody's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I know it is a bit over the top, but when fly, I always try to think what surprise it will trow me today, how can I get into trouble and what I need to do to avoid it. As a habbit and professional training, I'm paranoid. I usually do project management for big clients and a big part of my job is risk assesment and mitigation. I bring the same thinking to my flying. On the recent accident in AC, it is early to judge, but if it is hypoxia, questions to ask and and I do myself everytime when I fly high are these : 1 ) Is my main O2 bottle full or near. 2 ) Is my emergency tank near by on the back seat, this tank has no valvues and no ajustement, yank the pin out and you get max O2 for 2 people for about 20 min with masks to save your life and descend, did he have one ? 3 ) Do I have oximeters for pilot and co-pilot and are they at full charge. I spent a bit more and got those with alarms, so anytime I go under 85%, I get a loud alarm on it. 4 ) Do I have my spare oximeter with me always in the pocket on the side for passengers or in case primary Oximeter runs out of battery. 5 ) Do I have a plan in case my O2 goes under 90%, what do I do to stay abouve 90% all the time 6 ) Do I have an emergency plan in case my O2 goes under 80 and number 5 has not worked, descend or use emergency tank and descend. Most of these are checked a day or 2 before the flight and rechecked on the day of flight, also am I physically and mentaly ready for a flight and high altitude. Have I made sure everything is within reach from the pilot or co-pilot seat during the flight in case of emergency. I intend to go to an O2 chamber one of these days hopefully soon, I think it is a must as well if going over FL180. I have never gone higher because I don't have my IFR rating yet, but once I do, I will probably never go alone without a co-pilot to the FL240 max that my Rocket can go. That high, alone, too many things can go wrong and you might not have time to react alone... Anyway, this is my thinking and I am fully open for any improvements and things I can learn.... -
I wonder if ATC could'nt reach him for 2h and no 7600, then would'nt military jets be deployed to intercept and check it out, specially not too far from NY and Boston airspace ? If so, no public report of it was made that I know off...

I think that point is mute, he went, for what ever reason or reasoning he used, I think most would agree that the weather situation was not optimal or far far from it. I think we should look at the facts and the NTSB investiguation that will follow and learn from that, we were not in that plane, so we can't be sure what really happend until we have some hard facts. My opinion only !!!

yeah, I was surprised by the appparent drop in groundspeed so fast, something wrong with the data or really wrong with the plane... This is a tragedy but what comes to mind is a saying alot of pilots say around here : it take 45 hours to learn how to fly, but a life time to learn when to fly. This year I missed the Mooney Caravan because of weather, it was very frustrating, spending 2 full days at the airport waiting for a window to leave, but everytime either me or my copilot were uneasy about something in the forecast, so we waited until we both were ok with the weather and gave a mutual and confident go before we launched. We all wished he would have delayed his launch or that the outcome would be different. Sad situation. We need to learn from these tragedies, understand why and how it happen and educate ourselves to avoid similar situations. May he rest in piece.

Is the inspection plate not too far aft for the installation or is it the case that the calibration makes it work anyway ?
-
This is terribly sad news for his wife and family and our extended Mooney family, may he rest in peice.

I have one from couple of years ago that I used for 6 months and don't use anymore, let me know if you want to buy it from me for a discounted price...

yeah I would like to know as well exactly which access panel... I guess wiring is easier if on the left wing or will it matter ? I am wondering if I should put the led indicator directly on the glare shield, maybe cut it on the edge and put it horizontally... Not sure if that would work... I kind of have trouble seeing where I can put it on my panel in front of me beside between 2 instruments... Any suggestions from those who have installed it already ?

Thanks, I have gone trough the posts about CYA100 here, I do still have a beechtalk membership, but have not looked in there since getting rid of my rented Beech Sundowner and bought the Rocket,

Hi, I have gone trough most of the stuff about AOA in the forums here, several articles on the web and looking at my different options and possible vendors, I'm about to go ahead and buy a CYA100 from Aircraft Spruce and have it installed by my mechanic, because of it's price, fact that I can have the installation done on an access panel under the wing and no holes in my wing, no tubes to pass, only wires, also display seems very easy to understand and installation seems easy. Before spending the 1 to 1.5 AMU for purchase and installation, I would really like any new pirep on this, I'm thinking of placing the led indicator under the compass since I don't see where else on my panel I can put it and have it very visible during turns, approch and flare... Also, would I be better to have this installed by my A&P mechanic or an avionics guy, since it will need to be connected to my power bus and ideally audio pannel. Thanks !

Ok, that is strange, I have not seen it...

Probably part of the baffaling for proper air distribution for cooling ???

May I ask how much the L3 cost install and purchase ?, I'm looking at it... When I talked to L3, the model I needed ( to fly about FL180 ) was a bit too pricey compared to a GTX 330/33 ES and GDL88 Combined.
-
GDL-88 is only good for the Out option as long as you don't need the ES, meaning you are not flying at FL180 or above... From Garmin site : "the GDL 88 offers an affordable solution to reaching compliance. And even if you fly above 18,000 feet, the GDL 88 can still give you all the benefits of ADS-B “In” data – consider pairing it with a GTX 330/33 ES transponder for a comprehensive ADS-B “In/Out” solution. With ADS-B “Out”, the GDL 88 gathers information about your position, track and ground speed from either your existing WAAS GPS source or an optional built-in WAAS receiver"

Well I would love to do that, but my partner is selling his half and not willing to spend big money on new avionics, I'm paying the FlightStrem by myself, so I will wait until he find a buyer for his half or if in a 1 year, if he has not found 1, I will buy his half and then can make any changes I want to it.

This probably set you back about 50K to 75K I would imagine ??? It's an amazing pannel,
