  1. I just got the ram yolk mount for my mini. Definitely takes a bit to get used to flying with something attached to the yolk, but it is a good set up.
  2. Or a toga TC but those don't have the load carrying capability of the earlier models. The rear entry door and nose compartment is great on the pa 32s.

  5. I just got the two licenses myself because we have a trip planned to Bahamas. If you call the fcc help line they will email you instructions on what you need to do. That was helpful to me.

  8. In a sense I agree with you. With any plane I have bought I always do the PPI and convert to an annual if everything looks good preliminarily. That way, as long as the AP/IA is solid you know what your getting and can still get airworthiness issues addressed with the seller. Quite frankly if I were a shop owner I would not do stand alone PPIs as IMO the money to be made is not worth the exposure to both liability and having a disgruntled customer.
  9. We are all a little biased here since we are mooney owners. I can't say enough good things about mooneys. Great fit and finish, fun to fly, and fast. But there are trade offs. Very tight on the inside, and usually useful loads a bit on the low side. We also have an early 80s fixed gear saratoga that is slower but hauls lots of people and stuff. If it is just you and your wife the mooney is great. Any more than 2 people, particularly with any stuff like luggage, not so much.   10. Just saw this incredibly sad thread. If that happened to me (i.e. What happened to Dave) I would be so far up the mechanics rectum he would be tasting brill cream. I would litigate him to dust and make sure the FAA put the screws to him. That is inexcusable.
  11. In this world a "mistake" = negligence. That is what insurance is for. I have it on my firm because I know I am fallible and if I am entrusted with a matter and cause my client harm I want that client made whole.
  12. If it is the original linkage the answer is no because of the statute of repose, which in most jurisdictions is 10 years.
  13. No offense taken. Your misconception about the tort system is a common one. The truth is juries get to the right result the vast majority of the time, and our adversarial system is the best way of getting at the truth. There are many safeguards built into that system. Again, I am a huge proponent of capitalism but unchecked capitalism can have bad side effects. That is why for example the antitrust regulatory framework came into being.   14. Not true at all. I am a trial lawyer and can tell you that principles of simple economics dictate that those of us who take on corporate America in big stakes product liability litigation are pretty good about seeing to it that cases are meritorious before they are pursued. These cases involve tremendous cost and contrary to popular belief manufacturers don't roll over and pay nuisance money to resolve cases. If a case is lost it is the plaintiffs lawyer who absorbs the cost, and like everybody else we are interested in making rather than losing money(not to mention incredible amounts of time) In a capitalist system such as ours, which is IMO the best system, like it or not the threat of such litigation is a necessary component of the checks and balances. By way of example only, there was the Ford Pinto and GM ignition switch cases. In each of these cases there was evidence the manufacturer knew of the defects and either made a conscious or tacit decision not to change designs because the change might cost more than paying for the carnage. And I can tell you that it is easy to make these kind of rants about trial lawyers and juries when it isn't your spouse or child who suffers that carnage...
  15. I did my undergraduate work at the university of Florida and four years all in was about 20k. Lived in dorms then student run coop. Books were almost as much as tuition cost per semester!

  17. Hi Robb- No, first year in many I didn't hunt. Had too much going on with work, getting married in October, place in fla, etc. Congrats to your son--that is like the first solo, something you never forget.   18. I have said a few times on this board that although I love my Mooney, I also love my fixed gear Saratoga. Full fuel, which is 102 useful, and I still have over 800lbs payload. I flight plan 140-145 and the time differential between the Bravo, which is a rocket ship, and the toga on our typical trip between Atlanta and Florida is surprisingly small. We use the Toga any time it is more than my wife and I, which is frequently. The mooney in my book is a two person and bags plane. If your mission involves flying consistently with more than 1 passenger, that should be factored in, and perhaps a larger Cherokee, Bonanza, etc should be considered.   19. I have an S-tec 60-2 and S-tec gpss unit with the gpss/ hdg selector switch with a 430w in a toga that works great. In the Mooney(also a Bravo) have gtn 650 and Aspen PFD which provides Gpss roll steer function. I have same auto pilot as you. Both are excellent set ups and although I am no expert I would think that an Aspen PFD would be most cost effective way for you to go Regards, Frank

  23. I have always used corrosion x and had good results. if one were to switch from one to the other(acf-50) would it make any difference?
  24. I for one love buying new cars. Its like sport to me. I go in fully armed with all info including all manufacturing holdbacks. I go end of month and toward end of day and wear em out. I've kept salesmen there until 9 and 10 pm and walked without a deal. Im a trial lawyer and even though I don't buy a new car every day I would venture to say I have the art and science of negotiation down a little better than your typical car salesman.
  25. Yes, the switch is along side the fuel pump, stdby alt, pitot &prop heat etc. so must be electric. I guess if it comes on without engine running it is electric.
