Overhaul review, Jewell Aviation and powerflow exhaust
isaacpr7 replied to aaronk25's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I had a propstrike back in 2012. The mechanic at the time said that it did not require an engine tear down inspection; however, three years later when I changed mechanic I was shown as per the AD that it did in fact require an engine tear down. Needless to say I may have to ship the engine off to be inspected before the engine can be airworthy again. If I was to send my engine to Jewell Aviation, how much do you think it would cost for the ispection if everything was found okay? How much does it cost to ship the engine as well? -
That sounds about right now that you mention it. I estimated 1.5 because I could not measure how much was left on the tank but it did look like a lot left from the initial 2.5
-
I purchased a 5 gallon container but only filled my sprayer with 2.5 gallons. After I was done spraying I opened it to see how much I had left and it looked like I had pletnty. My guess is that I only used about 1.5 gallons. The sprayer was still expensive compared to a homemade system but it did the job perfectly without leaking material everywhere. At 100 dollars a gallon for Corrosion X I didn't really want to waste it anyways

I am based out of Campbell but my baby sleeps at Outlaw, of course. As far as sprayers go, all I can say is that I have heard other people with home made systems that they leak corrosion x for a long time from overspraying and that tge material comes out like water droplets. The sprayer I purchased This sprayer is made specifically to atomize the fluid better and it has a one way check valve in order to maintain pressure in the tank with no back pressure going back into the air hose. I guess that if you could install a one way check valve and use the recommended pressure if 80 psi you would ger the same results on a homemade system. Like airbrushes, atomizing the fluid properly has something to do with the design but mostly with air pressure setup. Both systems work on a venturi that puls material as air pressure sucks it out.

Thanks for the info. I'm getting one

Mike, I finally got around to spraying the entire aircraft today during its on-going annual inspection and I have to say that the sprayer you recommended is fenomenal. I filled the 5 gallon tank with about 2 1/2 gallons and I still had fluid left when I was done spraying. The nozzle and pressure combination atomizes the fluid extremely well. When I began spraying I had all the lower wing panels removed and I had to stop and reposition all panels until they were almost closed. I did this because the atomized fluid was escaping through every panel while I tried to spray the first one.

What make and model did you buy? I have the harborfreight but I can only see the top of the cylinders and walls with it.

She's running like a dream. I only flew her 26 hours this year because I put a bunch of back braking work into her. I'm super happy with the results. This year I reconstructed the interiors; overhauled both mags; replaced the starting vibrator; replaced the P-leads; repaired the 8 second ride issue; fixed the VOR indicator; changed the nose wheel tire; treated with Corrosion X; completed annual inspection, and fabricated or purchased enough tools to be an A&P some day I could have not accomplished any of those things if it wasn't for my fellow Mooniacs guiding me through the entire journey. I am very grateful for everything you guys have taugh me.

Well guys, This will be my last set of pics for this thread. Thank you all for the helpful pictures that I was able to use when replicating the jacks and the lifting methods. I have to say, my MX and I were very impressed on how sturdy the setup is. It is so rock solid that I cannot feel any movement from any axis while climbing and moving around the aircraft. It might be a bit overkill but it gives me great confidence and piece of mind

Hector, Does it make a difference where in the hole you put the stick when you insert it (i.e. left, center, or right)? Just wondering, since the wing has a dihedral angle.

Hey guys, As we get closer to compliance with the ADS-B compliance requirement I wanted to get ahead of the game with some research. I understand what it does; however, there are quite a few flavors out there and I'm not sure which one is the most well rounded one. Do you guys know what would give me the best bang for the buck? Would it be worth getting something certified over non-certified? What units out there are certified?

Seeing is believing. Check out the youtube video in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsWLvyJyMBM

One thing that I read on the Corrosion X description that caught my attention was the fact that the treatment can last for two years or more.

I finally finished de paneling the aircraft and when I opened the Corrosion X HD it was a heavy goo. Apparently there are two versions of the product. The one I got is not for aviation but it is sold at Spruce. I ordered the aviation specific one and hopefully I can get an ROMA for the other one; however, since it's special order I might be stuck with a $350+ 5 gallon container. I just wanted to post this so no one else makes this expensive mistake.

Mike, I purchased the safety collars from McMaster Carr as you suggested and they work great. They were a bit over 10 bucks because I purchased the extra grip version. I used 1-1/8" inner diameter for the wing jacks and 1-3/8" inner diameter for the engine hoist. PS: It is amazing to see how fast corrosion sets in the jacks after a few days of cold humidity. I will be treating those with Corrosion X as well

I'm glad you liked it Chris. I was very excited to make those for the three of you. It's the least I could do to reciprocate the help you guys have given me. Happy new year

I was crunching some numbers and I figured that if I made at least 10 trays at a time I could price them around 30 dollars a piece. Not a great profit after materials but then again, I'm not looking to get rich. I just like to tinker around with power tools

Hey guys, I was tinkering around my garage making a few trays for some fellow mooniacs as a token of appreciation for the help they have given me in the past and present. I'm a bit of a hobbyist so after many hours of tinkering around and looking at different designs out there I came up with the product below. I just listed these on Ebay for 45 bucks a piece due to to the amount of time invested into building each one. I don't know how much interest this would generate but if I can get enough people to sign up I might be able to come up with a good price per tray. Dimensions are 8" x 3.5" x 3.5" hard wood. The plug holes are 3/4" diameter. I made rabbit cuts into the panels before gluing them together, rather than gluing the panels into a sandwich. After staining, the custom graphics were airbrushed into the wood by using a few stencil overlays for each color and custom lettering, then final clear coat was applied. I can help anyone with more details should they want to build the trays themselves. I'm just selling some of my time to build these for anyone interested. I was able to ship these for some friends between 8 and 11 dollars; however, I will try to figure out if they can be shipped at a cheaper price.

Mooney instruction in Nashville area
isaacpr7 replied to ikejtaylor's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Small community brother. If we are talking about the same Doug, he an awesome guy. As a matter of fact he is helping me with my annual this year. I believe Steve lives in Springfield but he works in Clarksville. His Mooney is based in Clarksville as well. After I'm done with the annual I will be working with Steve to get my instrument ticket before I deploy. -

Call his business cell phone at 270-820-5630. If he does not answer just leave a message and he will call you ASAP. He is also an A&P instructor at NCI. -
I had no choice but to purchase the heli-coil. It fits like a glove Thanks for your post DaV8or.
-
Those look awesome Mike; however, I checked through the inspection panel as you suggested and there is not enough material around the aluminum in which the point screws into. I ended up having to purchase the heli-coil.
-
I wish I could make it rain like some aicraft owners. Then I wouldn't have a reason to be frugal
-
Thanks for the education DaV8or. I didn't even know those things existed. A little pricey ($21 at Advanced Auto Parts) but I will give it a shot if the method that Mike suggested doesn't work for me.

Mike, As usual, you're the man I will take a look at that. I sent you a PM.
