Spring loaded button close to left wing root
isaacpr7 replied to isaacpr7's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The tank reseal is holding up like a champ my friend. Never got around to doing the left one because I decided to fly her more this year rather than being a picky OCD owner I've been flying close to 10 hours a week lately. God I love that Mooney!!!! I'm super sad to let her go. Her new owner will be picking her up soon and every time I fly her I regret it a little more. I'm only letting her go because I'm about to retire so that I can enjoy some family time after 20 years in the Army. Taking a huge pay cut wasn't an easy decision but I'm ready to enjoy the family not that I'm getting old. Lol! Besides, the pay cut will only be for a few years and I'll be back on track. I'll be able to buy another Mooney then. Maybe a J model this time Thank you for being one of the most amazing people who made owning a Mooney a great experience bud Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -

Hank, I’ve been on this page for years. I’m sure you’ve come across some of my projects on my Mooney. I think the best experience of owning a Mooney has been the amazing and helpful folks I’ve met through this page. The have always been willing to help. I have flown my steed for 7 years without issues and an amazing flying machine such as the Mooney doesn’t require a degree. If you want something challenging, try helicopters. Not targeting anyone in particular but I’ve stopped visiting this page for awhile because I noticed it sadly became a heckling arena where only a few have ruined the experience for me. I have spoken to several other Mooney pilots in my current and last duty station and they feel the same. I might be the only one to publicly admit it but it’s a shame how a few can ruin it for the rest. Hopefully these Mooney gods will bring peace into this realm once again. Not on my Ranger POH. I'll make sure to pencil that one in from now on. Thanks for the info. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -

Never got a transition training. Just logged 5 hours of burning holes in the sky. Had to learn everything on my own by reading the manuals and asking this amazing mooniac community Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -
Oil seeping from the prop seal
isaacpr7 replied to isaacpr7's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I sprayed Arid as you suggested and it worked like a charm The leak is coming from the prop seal still. I will be ordering the oversized seal. Do you know what the oversized seal part number is by any chance? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -
I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago while cranking. As soon as I punched the part number into Google, a bunch of links popped up with a service bulletin that talks about this happening. The SB calls for the replacement off all three cables, so I did. These pics are terrible and you can't see the oil well enough because of the flash but here they are. I also can't take a pic directly of the seal. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -

Oil seeping from the prop seal
isaacpr7 replied to isaacpr7's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
It's the seal behind where the prop attaches to. It has a spring that is installed in it. I'm beginning to suspect that maybe there's another source. I'll wash the area down really good and fly her to the MX to try pin pointing the source. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -

Did what you suggested and it did not spin. The left side was pretty dry but the right side was very wet. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -

Yes, the crankshaft seal O ring. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk -
I've had a prop seal leak for some time but not bad enough that it was a concern. I had it replaced last week because I'm flying at night more often and I could not see clearly during landings because of the thin oily film on the windshield. After it was replaced I flew the aircraft a few days later on a 9 hour cross country. During the first 4.5 hours I didn't notice any leaks. On my way back I noticed it began to leak and by the time I put her to bed I noticed the seal was there again. Has this happened to anyone before? Thoughts? Trio Autopilot- Please respond if you want one
isaacpr7 replied to merrja's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I just spoke to the man himself (Paul) and asked him the same question regarding the price. He explained that the FAA still makes demands that they comply with regulations when installing these systems on certified aircraft that cost them a great deal of money. He said it is costing them between 250k-300k to get these STCs approved by the FAA.- 38 replies

I'm down like four flat tires Unless a better option becomes available before this whole thing kicks off. Any thoughts from my fellow Mooniacs?- 38 replies

Sweet deal. Thanks for the info bud If they come up with an STC for an autopilot combo I might consider hanging on to my girl for a bit longer; otherwise, I'll continue to offer her up and cry when she leaves me.

How much did it cost you with installation?

I don't know if you guys know about the similar Garmin unit but I checked the AML and it pretty much has all models of Mooney. Here's the link: https://www.gulfcoastavionics.com/products/4202-g5-electronic-flight-instrument-for-certified-aircraft.aspx

Here's a link that quotes the FARs but elaborates on each owner maintenance procedure you are allowed to perform. https://www.aopa.org/training-and-safety/pic-archive/aircraft-ownership/preventive-maintenance Item 11 gives you the answer to your question.

Will do bud, My POC is: isaacpr7@gmail.com 334-479-6220. Don't worry about the timeline. I'm not in any kind of hurry. That would give me time to work on my next ticket when I get back before I deploy again
-
Gitmo234, If you want I can send you some info and pics of my '68C. I will be back from my current deployment in about another week and scheduled to go back in about 7 months. This will probably be my last deployment before I retire and considering selling my steed for the price I bought it for (30K) I have redone the interior, added an engine monitor, stripped and resealed the right wing tank, and not looking to make a penny off of what I have invested on it. It has around 700 hrs SMOH. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be, just have them send me a PM.

That's awesome bud! Glad you got it all done I should be returning home from the deployment during the first couple of months of next year which is around the corner. I plan to take a brake from maintenance and plan on flying my steed as much as I can the rest of the year because all I have done for most of my ownership has been remodeling, fixing, and upgrading. I've come to the conclusion that there will always be something to do to make your steed better so I need to focus on enjoying the flying next year. The following year I plan to tackle the left wing by stripping it with the machine. I plan to take pictures and document everything the same way I did the right side and compare times. I believe the best part of Mooney ownership is the amazing group of Mooniacs willing to give each other a hand. Aircraft ownership can be scary for those without deep pockets, if not impossible. Thank you guys for keeping the dream alive Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
