I have a hose I bought from True Value. I believe it is 5/8s but will have to check it tomorrow.

That's what I've been doing! Just annoyed me that it didn't work. Saw the opportunity to make it right and I'm trying to do just that. MKTurbo, I ordered the wire from McMaster Carr, but they canceled it sue to export laws and me not being a trusted large order customer... Weird, maybe because I'm so close to Mexico? Not a big deal. Ordered some mower cable!

Thanks guys. The problem with trying to call is I'm usually at work and unable to make a call from base. Verizon doesn't work very well out here... On the other hand, sitting in the tower with only two aircraft airborne, gives me the opportunity to ask you guys!

Fellas, My plane is in annual and I'm attempting a light refurb on the interior. Since the panels are removed, I'm looking to fix the broken flap cable. The cable broke where it attaches near the flaps and now the flap indicator is forever stuck at T/O flaps. The cable is .058" diameter and approximately 8ft long. I need help finding a replacement inner cable or suitable ersatz inner cable. The only inner cable I could find on Aircraft Spruce is inner Bowden cable, but that is .078" and I don't think I'll be able to shove that through the outer cable housing. I emailed Don Maxwell last week for guidance, but have yet to hear back from him. I also emailed LASAR today, but wanted to check with you guys to see if any of you have a source or at least some recommendations. Thank you in advance! v/r, Raygun

Alliance has always treated me well when I take a T38 in there. I haven't flown my Mooney there yet. Just watch for the displaced threshold when landing to the south. Otherwise KAFW is pretty easy and well managed.

M20F Speed Checks... Comparison Please?
Raygun15E replied to Ragsf15e's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Rags, I get similar KTAS numbers as you, just a few kts slowe with a N,E,S,W method. I'll have to try the three leg method at your altitudes to compare. In addition, I rarely get my KIAS over 128kts in cruise. I think I may have a few knots of error in my IAS as well. Let me know if you want to get together some weekend to go up and compare numbers. - Raygun -
Longest Mooney trip in a day - 750nm split in two legs. Flight time 6.5hrs. Longest flight - 9.3hrs. Europe to NC in February (F-15E). Four piddle packs required!

Awesome! A civilian version of JHMCS. The SA gained from tech like this is amazing. On the flip side, it's easy to become addicted to it and not listen to the radios as well. It would still make flying easier in complex and busy airspace. -
Count me interested in the neutral/beige. That's the color I've been mulling about using when I have the interior redone in the next year or so. Do you have any of those left?

David, If you're south of Kerrville, then you might be seeing the jets on the Centerpoint One Arrival. Centerpoint (CSI) is located just SSW of Kerrville, TX. Jets cross Beney (CSI105013) at 10K. -Chris

My first attempt was at night somewhere over Iraq... I recommend doing a test run with a piddle pack at zero knots and zero AGL. Then daytime before attempting with no light! There's a Dos Gringos song that captures the dilemma perfectly. Mike you're crazy, but we love living vicariously through your trips!

Night landings are sometimes overthought. I'm guilty of it at times. From the front seat, I usually don't have any issues. Heck, I landed downrange with the plane blacked out (I forgot to turn on the landing light on short final) with no problem. Although, I have to admit I had a flight where I forgot to flare the Strike Eagle and had the opportunity to log two landings that night... I like the idea of using the wingtip position lights. I'll have to give that try next time I fly nights from the RCP. Practice and recency definitely help with the night landings.

I lived in the area for a few years when the AF decided I needed to not fly for a few years. Check out the Mighty Eighth AF Museum south of town. mightyeighth.org/ River street has multiple bars and restaurants for eating and drinking. The beach on Tybee is nice, but it's approx 40min away. Check out the squares. Similar to traffic circles, but basically a small city block that's a park. If you like pizza, Vinnie Van GoGos is popular with tourists and locals alike. That's all I can think of right now. Plenty to see in Savannah and great food to go with it!

The LLC sounds like a decent option. I need to look into it and see what the particulars are. I know TX doesn't have a personal property tax, but some states I could be based in do, and it would be nice to mitigate the expense. I have a couple weeks, so getting the CD from the FAA is doable for me. In fact, I need to order it this week. Along with calling KDRT and finding out what hangar space is or isn't available.

Ed, I'm not sure exactly what the hanger situation is. I have yet to get any details on wait times. I do know a guy who hangared his Arrow at Uvalde for a couple months while waiting on hangar space. That is one of many things I've been procrastinating on... I saw the "no brakes on IP side" incident report, but not the overrun portion. I'll be sure to look at the records and airplane. Obviously, I won't buy it without a prebuy inspection. That's one of many things I've learned here. I'll have to figure out when/why the one piece belly and new prop were installed. I haven't found anything yet in the recent history. I will need to get the records from OKC. Thanks guys, never bad to get a second, third or more opinion. Less likely to make a mistake!

Bob, You got that right. I went thru LAFB in '02, class 03-04. The town is much better than it was just 10yrs ago, but I wouldn't call it the garden spot of the US. Regarding costs, I'm discussing a limited partnership with another IP here. It should work out nicely for both of us. Now to find a plane and take the dive...

I'll pile on to the military training bit. In the T-38C, students get 17 flights (4 at night), and at least 6-9 EP/Instrument/Nav simulators before their checkride. I'd have to check the syllabus for exact numbers. This should give an idea how much instrument training goes into Phase III of UPT. I think sims are a major advantage the military has in training pilots over the average GA pilot. It is very easy to practice many more approaches and other procedures quickly without all the drone time usually required between. Of course, chairflying certainly helps and is FREE! As far as the military also losing pilots. Yes we do and we also usually accept more risk due to mission requirements. OTOH, there are still some "pilots" that sneak thru training and the normal weeding out process... Just my two cents.
