  1. By observing the reading on the gauge vs the amount of fuel it then takes to fill to the tabs... which is more accurately 25 USG (useable) than topping off because there isn't really the same consistent, observable, known stopping point when filling / squeezing to the top... You use a similar procedure for calibrating the K factor of your fuel flow transducer...except obviously by aggregating both tanks...
  2. $27.13 on Kindle on my Amazon...
  3. Btw, I'm pretty sure RACWA have them....you could contact Glen Caple there maybe...of course they will use litres
  4. Yes, Tommy it surprised me as well that someone has not already created one AND is willing to share....Because, for sure some people have gone to the trouble ....but rather than draining a tank, if you have a properly calibrated fuel flow totalizer you can do it by sticking to just the one tank from full....although better to only have half or less in the other tank so as to avoid significant lateral balance issues....btw, I have not done this...it'so just an idea....I have the in-wing sight gauges which seem to be reasonably accurate..
  5. Wellesbourne?
  6. I know there is a recent thread about the RR turbine and the pros and cons of a turbine Mooney but I couldn't find it... Anyway the Austrians have strapped a turbine on the front of a DA40.. http://ukga.com/news/view?contentId=34841
  7. It's hard to take a potentially libelous allegation seriously when written anonymously.... I bet if I checked with Mooney there are hundreds of people who currently and use(d) to fit the description of "Mooneybuilder"....
  8. One observation: Don uses his real name on this forum.... A second observation, such a one-sided rant written in the heat of the moment is not so professional...
  9. I doubt they fabricated it themselves....only an owner can do that under Part 43...and even then it has to conform exactly to the original spec...in materials and dimensions...
  10. Bartman, I notice that you don't have doublers on your spinner....is this by design?
  11. These "filler plates" are called "doublers".....$378.47 + S&H....EACH... from Mooney via your MSC...ask me how I know
  12. My 87J does not have a tach time meter...it has a Hobbs which starts counting at start up until shutdown....I log it for interest but I use the FAR part 1 definition of Time in Service by recording actual time off the surface of the earth... "Time in service, with respect to maintenance time records, means the time from the moment an aircraft leaves the surface of the earth until it touches it at the next point of landing."
  13. Tommy, in general, anything specified in the Type Certificate Design Specification (TCDS) can only be altered with a Supplementary Type Certifcate (STC).....of which there is not one for these units... You should really have a copy of the TCDS for the M20 series in your library....I can email you one if you like...
  14. As for football....we call soccer...soccer....except a few recent arrivals who insist on trying to change the meaning of the word football to that of the old country! For us Football involves heavy physical contact, a few fights and the occasional goal....heck, we even turned baseball into fight-night! http://www.news.com.au/sport/adelaide-bite-and-melbourne-aces-await-outcome-of-abl-investigations-over-brawl-at-hindmarsh-stadium/story-fnaqgujp-1227188154563
  15. Up unitil maybe 10 years ago the Oxford English Dictionary (the one the Queen uses) spelled (or should that be s "Spelt"?) realize, criticize etc. with a Zed....but thanks in part to Mr Gate's interpretation of "British English", mospt Brits now believe the Z is American.... FWIW as an Aussie living in the UK I use Z not S in those words...but I do put the U in colour! :-)
  16. I was just on the phone to Cambria covers in England getting some mods to the covers for my J and they mentioned that they would like to measure up the cowl on a K model for their templates. If anyone has a K in the North of England and is willing to have the cowl measured please let me know on awquick@yahoo.com or contact Robert directly at Cambrai on Robert@cambraicovers.com Anthony Quick
  17. I meant only for that particular flight...immediately after it happened....like you I wouldn't feel comfortable pulling a CB as an ongoing procedure... Also, as far as I know, the gear in our Mooneys has to be driven down by the electric motor (or the emergency extension drive)...ie it shouldn't "relax" itself down..... Of course the downside to this is that if the emergency gear system fails (because the brass clutch has been unwittingly stripped) there is no way to get the gear down in the event of a primary failure....
  18. Wow...I'm guessing your Gear switch is dodgy.....did you pull the CB to prevent any further uncommanded occurrences? AQ
  19. What does the bluey make of the new plane Bill?
  20. I looked at an Arrow, a Cardinal RG and a TB20.....sure glad I chose the M20J....but if it didn't exist I kind of like the C210
  21. Can you get that configuration signed off? What acceptable / approved data would support the 337?
  22. Is it just me, or do other find that Tapa Talk is very difficult to navigate to any particular forum...eg I want to go to General Mooney Discussion but unless I can find a recent posting in that forum it is no possible....I've stopped using it now
  23. We used to have a cab-over Kenworth with an 8V71 Detroit Diesel when I was a kid.....VERY LOUD and only 300HP...we used to call it the Bird Scarer.....although it was marketed at the time as a Mack Muncher! And the oilfield is littered with Detroit Diesels.....very very reliable and simple....perfect for aviation
  24. I got a quote from MT here in Europe a month or so ago (when faced with a $5,000 quote and 150 days for a new spinner assembly for my Hartzwll Q-tip). The correct pro for a J is the MTV-12-B / 180-59b and the associated spinner is the P-285-1-A....pricing in Europe is €8,250 for the prop and €1,150 for the spinner ex-factory....this is approximately $11,130 plus shipping... I don't know how that compares to the US pricing... Needless to say I am staying with the Hartzell for now....but if I need a new prop I will definitely go for the MT 3-blader... Anthony
  25. 118hrs for me all in my J...including nearly 30hrs of dual...to get my Instrument Rating Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
