Took off and the IPad recognized Stratus and everything worked fine. On the return flight, the IPad still recognized Stratus and it showed as the GPS source on foreflight but weather never came up. Looking at the status on the foreflight page, it was the spinning icon saying updating. I shut off the Stratus and restarted and closed foreflight and reopened but the result was the same. I did not shut the Ipad completely off.

Any thoughts?

I did not reboot the IPad. It is an Ipad2 and I only use it for the plane. No other programs were running, The only programs on it are what came with it new and foreflight.

That's what I love about my Garmin 560\XM. Never had these problems. Today I flew from ORL to FXE in between cells shown on the 560. I was well impressed by the on time accurate depiction.

I have seen the message where the status of the device takes some time to show up. It took 5 minutes for the status to show up once, but otherwise it worked fine.

One other time, i wa not gtting adsb info, was because i use an external antenna and the antenna had fallen off from the windshield to the floor and as a result was not picking up any signals.

And yet another time when i had abnormal behavior was when i started the heater and blew the hot air directly at the stratus unit on the floor, causing it to overheat.

In short, except for the first case where it took 5 minutes to update status, the rest have been use errors. Also try updating the firmware ont the stratus using foreflight.

This thread reminds me why I got the garmin gdl39. When the stratus was first released I noticed the lack of a real antenna and the 90 degree temperature limit, coupled wih the short battery life.

I'm in a holding pattern right now. I cancelled XM for my 696 & plan to go with the GDL-39. I also see a free battery promotion just ended with the GDL-39, maybe it will start up again?

I had a similar situation, but in my case the Stratus never received the XM radar but did receive all the other textual information. For me it's a backup to my GDL 69A in the cockpit, and it was a mostly clear day so it didn't bother me other than to tick me off a bit. I did email team@foreflight.com for their support and they suggested in that situation to totally quit the app and restart it. I went back out yesterday and tested everything and it all worked.

People can say what they want about panel vs. hand held devices. My MX-20 sometimes just reboots itself, and I've had the GDL 69A occasionally just stop receiving. It's all computers and I've learned they will all glitch out occasionally. One hopes they don't just glitch out all at once!

I had the same problem on my last 2 flights. It worked OK for the 1st hour, then stopped. I talked to Foreflight and they

said that it was a problem with their latest upgrade 4.7.1. Here was their temporary fix until the next upgrade.

1. Exit Foreflight and go to the main Ipad home screen.

2. Press the button at the bottom of the Ipad twice in a row. A list of the last apps you've used should slide up at the

bottom of the screen, and the top part of the screen will go dark.

3. Find the Foreflight icon on that list. Tap and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle, then tap the - sign in the top left corner

of the icon. This will stop Foreflight from running in the background.

4. Tap on the top of the screen or click the button at the bottom of the Ipad to exit.

5. Tap the Foreflight icon to re-open the app.

Hope it helps.
