fluffysheap Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 It looks like I have a faulty mag, which will likely necessitate replacement and ensure I keep my F-22-like maintenance history going. I have a 1980 231, which by my understanding has unpressurized magnetos that are less effective than the newer ones. I have the -LB engine, but I don't think this necessarily means it also has the newer mags. Assuming I'm right that it has the older mags, is it possible to upgrade to the newer style? Is there a popular aftermarket ignition available? I saw an electronic ignition discussed, but that seems to be only for the Lycoming engines.
Kwixdraw Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 You could go to the faa website and look up the TCDS on your engine and see what mags are approved for it. There may be more than one since the engine is approved for other aircraft too.
