gdwinc Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 It's been almost a month since the last post to the Ovation board, so I thought I'd post something just to drive a bit of activity. Anyhow, every other Ovation I have seen has a static drain on the bottom left side fuselage behind the wing and a pitot drain on the bottom of the left wing just behind the leading edge. My 2000 Ovation does not have the static drain behind the wing. Anyone else not have the static drain or is my airframe a total oddball? Cheers, jamie Quote
Scottknoll Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 Mine does have the fuselage static drain. 1998 29-0135You should be able to open the battery access panel and see the static lines from the left and right side of the fuselage to see where they go and if they connect to a drain. Quote
gdwinc Posted June 12 Author Report Posted June 12 I didn’t think to check as described. I’ll do that the next time I go flying. Thanks for the idea! Quote

Cheers, jamie On your 2000 Ovation the drain should be on the left side of the fuselage where you describe. On page 4-6 of your POH it will give you an idea of where to look. It's a black button underneath that you push up. The location may not be placarded currently but it should be. Your serial number is 29-0249. I used to own 29-0255, but didn't have the airplane very long. I will look through pictures to see if I can see if it had one. Follow up: In looking at the pictures of the Ovation I had I don't see a drain either. Mine had Factory A/C. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Does yours? Quote
kortopates Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 It’s not Static drain but a pitot drain that should be just behind the leading edge at the root of the wing. it’s installed at the lowest point in the line. It’s news to me if that was optional in your Ovation, but reviewing your Illustrated Parts Catalog should reveal if it wasn’t always included. But i haven’t seen any without one and i’ve seen a great many.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Slick Nick Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Wasn’t there a service bulletin to add a static drain to some models? I thought it was for older ones, an ovation should have it from the factory. Quote
gdwinc Posted July 17 Author Report Posted July 17 Sorry for my long absence on this thread...life has been busy. I did my transition training with Bob Cabe who used to fly for the factory and thus has flown in many Ovations. On our first walk around he went to show me the drain and was shocked that it wasn't there. He told me he'd never seen one like mine. I have not remembered to open the battery access panel and check and see if I can trace the lines as was suggested earlier in the thread. I will do so soon and report back. Quote
