You just have to do your research and decide to stretch and buy your last plane first.

I started looking at Tigers, Mooneys and Commanders.  Few Tigers and Commanders and most with original panels.  Many without even a panel mounted GPS.  So decided Mooney.

Started researching and decided that a J would be good to start.  But I knew I planned on traveling out west, so decided turbo.  Once I was looking there, the 252 was the clear choice.

So narrowed my search and found what I wanted.  And in 20 months, I have not seen any other plane I would have picked over the one I got.

So much good advice here.

I also purchased my Screaming Eagle and finished my PPL in it and then immediately started my IFR.  No regrets here.  It's certainly not for everyone but certainly doable.
