RoundTwo Posted June 17, 2023 Report Posted June 17, 2023 While cleaning and greasing the landing gear, I ran into a problem that my grease coupler won’t seal when trying to grease the main front pivot on the MLG. The zerk fitting is at a 45° angle and due to the weld, the coupler can’t get deep enough to get a bite, so the grease just blows out around the fitting. I’m chasing a creak/groan I hear when pushing the plane into the hangar after flying. It sounds like I’ve got a dry joint and this may be the reason. Im using a plain Jane coupler but hope someone makes something in a slim version that may work better. Chuck Quote

Also, there are some Zerk fitting alternatives that have a lower profile. https://zerksplus.com/1-8-27-npt-grease-zerk-90-pushon-hydraulic-coupler-1-pc/ Quote

GeeBee Posted June 17, 2023 Report Posted June 17, 2023 That is what I use, but I use it with a Lock-N-Lube coupler because sometime the 90 degree unit will not pull off the zerk easily. With the locking coupler I can yank on it hard and get it off the zerk. 1 Quote

A64Pilot Posted June 17, 2023 Report Posted June 17, 2023 I usually use a needle adapter that of course doesn’t lock, just goes into the center. https://locknlube.com/products/narrow-needle-nose-dispenser?variant=40006959792212¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&nbt=nb%3Aadwords%3Ag%3A19697562718%3A149987731390%3A648340416621&nb_adtype=pla&nb_kwd=&nb_ti=pla-293946777986&nb_mi=420168296&nb_pc=online&nb_pi=shopify_US_118038757400_40006959792212&nb_ppi=293946777986&nb_placement=&nb_li_ms=&nb_lp_ms=&nb_fii=&nb_ap=&nb_mt=&gclid=CjwKCAjws7WkBhBFEiwAIi1684sqc3m0pvFpk4hANNS4M7exQersYDvNR8ITR6gTRpvFnKthNq7J9BoCZNwQAvD_BwE You just push it against the ball in the zerk and pump A couple of zerks on the nose gear I changed from straight to 90 I think that made it easier.
