kris_adams Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Hi everyone, We are looking for suggestions on somewhere to fly this weekend. We've been to Destin, Disney, Daytona, and Charleston already. Any place where we can fly in that has cabins at the airport? We live in Atlanta and are looking to fly 2 hours and may stretch to 3 for a great stop. We will have 1 - 10 year old boy with us and possibly 2. I flew to Gaston's in AR many years ago. That was pretty neat. Any ideas you can suggest? Thanks! Kris Quote

rbridges Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 you flying friday or saturday? weather looks kinda crappy. we're driving to Athens for a campus tour with our daughter. Quote
kris_adams Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 Yeah, the weather doesn't look great yet. We could leave later Thursday or Friday. I guess if the weather is really miserable we'll just go Saturday - Sunday. Quote
BlueSkyTraveler Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I am temporarily based in Albany, Ga ABY. My wife and i flew to Cedar Key CDK and spent the weekend in January, a lady monitors unicom and will pick you up before your prop stops and take you to town. There are golf cart rentals available. We spent Valentines weekend at Appalachicola, AAF nice spot as well. If you want to venture further south we have spent the weekend at X01 Everglades City. Great airport and fun short field. Let me know if you find another fun place we are always looking!!! We are going to Winter Haven, FL GIF on Saturday to visit friends. Quote
Jeff_S Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Jekyll Island is awesome, and less than 2 hours by Mooney. There is a strip right on the Island and if you stay at the Resort they will come pick you up. Or you can get one of those rental "buggy" cars (albeit somewhat pricey" and tool around all you want. Not sure about lodging this time of year...probably high season so also pricey. Quote
KSMooniac Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Try Myrtle Beach, (MYR or CRE). I live in Myrtle Beach. It is still the off season so you can get really great rates. Lots to do here and the beach is great. I think Sat will be nice but a little cool. Quote

kris_adams Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 all good ideas. Looks like plans changed and I will be flying to look at a plane for a friend. I agree re: Cedar Key--really interesting place. We rented the golf carts and had a great time. We also visited Jekyll at the last minute. They didn't have any carts left so we just walked around the island. You can definitely get away with that. Destin was great as the airport is literally 1/2 mile at most from the Gulf and numerous condo's. I will add Myrtle to our list of todo's. Thanks everyone! Quote
