PeteMc Posted October 30, 2022 Report Posted October 30, 2022 Does anyone know of a good HIGH Resolution map that can be downloaded? On the X-US flight we just completed there were a number of times we were looking at a section of a mountain range, some distant peak or some other point of interest we were trying to find out the name of. I know you can download Google Maps for Off-Line use, but it's a pain if you're tying to do the full US (unless someone has found a trick to get bigger sections). And switching to the Sectional Layer in ForeFlight showed a lot, but still not everything we wanted and often had too much aviation data to obscure what we were looking for. So I'm looking for another option before we take our next longer trip. I also sent in a Feature Request to FF. It would not surprise me if their current Map DB provider doesn't have this and maybe it isn't really already part of their package. Not only would it be a nice Layer for Pilots, but it would make their Passenger App something that is actually useful and interesting to the passengers. So if you're a FF user and you like the idea, please write in and ask them to add a High Resolution Interest Map Layer. (Remember their Street and Aerial Layers are Internet Layers and not available in flight.) team@foreflight.com Quote
Stetson20 Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 Go to the app store and try maps.me I can't vouch for high resolution, but it's free.. Quote

Still trying to get some more terrain detail and looking through the settings to see if I can turn off all the junk at the bottom that I don't want. But it is a descent offline map. Thanks for the tip! 1 Quote
