Engine controls are designed to last the TBO for the engine…

But, there is no requirement to replace them…

and again…. Sometimes, the engine controls are as old as the plane…

Having an engine control become disconnected can be hazardous…

When it happens… they don’t always fail in an ideal way… like they are designed for.

Sometimes they fall out in your hand… what happens at the other end is somewhat random…

Often, the cable connecting the knob to the engine frays…. Making the knob get stuck in one place…

+1 for replacement and upgrade… in a timely fashion…

Are you considering pre-flown avionics?

MS has a really good resource of pre-flown devices…

Check in with @Alan Fox he can help update most of the avionics aging in your panel…. See what he has for inventory…

Best regards,

Got it on the engine controls.   Thank you.

I don’t know what I’m doing on the avionics but understand that Allen Fox is a good resource for Mooney parts and didn’t know that he has preflown avionics.    Good to know.

Thank you for the input again !

I do have this engine monitor, JPI EDM 700

I had a beech be35j in the past and didn’t get to do the beech flight training Bppp program but had an instructor who was a bppp instructor and I was lucky to have that.

How can I find a Mooney instructor in my area (Michigan) for transition training ?

the pictures of the panel disassembled honestly always freak me out.

Was able to talk to a good avionics shop about the panel and gnx375, G5 hsi, and gfc500 upgrade.   They are scheduling for April and cost roughly 25-30k it sounds like.
I was happy they said they use the pushrods and servos and not switching out for cables.

You can very affordably upgrade a EDM 700 to either a 730 or 830.  The 730 upgrade only involves installing a new screen that runs 1500 dollars.  The 830 upgrade involves the screen as well as installing additional senders and a software update.  The 730/830 screen is much larger, shows nearly everything simultaneously and is in color.   The big downside of the 700/800 is you have to scroll through to find what you want.   You get away from that with the upgrade. Downside is it’s not primary so can’t get rid of the old gauges.

I have an 800 and in a couple weeks my avionics guy is going to upgrade it to a 830 with a used screen he got off another plane.  I’m really looking forward to it.
