jlunseth Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 We have been flying out to MT enough that I thought a mountain flying course was in order, so I have signed up for the MAPA PPP in Denver. Hopefully will be able to land and take off from Leadville (KLXV) at 9,934, will be even more fun to shoot the GPS 16 up there. Probably need O2 just to fly the approach. Anyone else going?
andysmith11 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 I'm signed up. Taking the mountain flying option as well.
jlunseth Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 Are you a Bravo or an Acclaim? If so, I would like to meet you and look at your plane while there. Am looking to move to something like a Bravo maybe end of the year, I need TKS.
andysmith11 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 I'm flying an Acclaim, and you're more than welcome to check her out. If our flying schedules/ground school times don't coordinate, we can work out a time around our schedules.
jlunseth Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 That would be great, thanks. See you there. We were in Kalispell last weekend, getting to be a habit.
KSMooniac Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 I managed a quick stop in Leadville in the fall of 2008 and it was great! You turbo guys will have no issues, just realize the IAS = much higher TAS than when at lower elevations so your takeoff and landing rolls will be longer, and your sensation just before touchdown might feel/look different. My takeoff with just me, bags and ~1/2 fuel seemed like it took forever since I'm non-turbo.
jlunseth Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 July 8-10. Call Lela Hughes at MAPA or check the www.mooneypilots.com website under the Calendar of Events.
