Panel overlay?

Has anyone ever created a metal panel overlay to basically hide all of the swiss cheese holes left in the panel after avionics upgrades/modifications?  Yes, I know a new panel can be fabricated but I'm just curious of the options as it would be cool to not have to un-mount/de-rack everything and remount it.  I've heard that this is popular with Baron owners but has anyone done this in a Mooney?  If so, where/how?

I made aluminum overlays for my 1970 M20C. I wrote an article that described in some detail the process. It appears in the July 2016 issue of The Mooney Flyer. Here is a photo of my panel.

That's a nice panel!  I think our older planes have more inherent appeal specifically because of the original Mooney Logo.  I won't say FBC out loud, someone else can.

That would be very helpful for somebody that has an old broken up plastic version that came with their plane...

If you like the Black rough finish, use some ABS Plastic Sheets.  It comes out pretty slick and is SUPER inexpensive!

I installed one in my previous plane (Grumman AA1B)...my guess is the panels on those are a lot more standard than the mooney's over the years.  It was super simple to install and looked great when done compared to before. -Kris
