NicoN Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 As I am a pretty new partial owner of a M20K, I find several items which in my eyes should be corrected. One is a plastic cover for the Elevator trim chain where the holes for the fixating screws are torn out and it had tears in the plastic and also deep scratches whci are supposed to come from the pilots seat moving back and forth (especially the sheet metal which forms the hinge). The plastic cover is repaired and re-inforced. While assemblying again, i found out that the trim chain is pretty loose. I can barely push the up- and downgoing part of the chain together with my fingers. The wheel has Play of about 15 degree before it starts moving the trim. So the chain should be tightened. But, there is another Thing which Looks strange for me.: The whole assembly (wheel, chain and a thick metal "post") seems to be loose. It can shake from left to right by about half an Inch. Can the whole block/assembly come loose? How can I tighten/fix this? According to the Service Manual there should be screws which tighten the chain. Where can I find them? From the cabin on the floor? From underneath? How do I reach the gera-box assembly? Quote
Bartman Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 I bought a new cover for the chain from Plane Plastics. It required some trimming and adjustment as well as drilling the holes for the screws. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 There are chain tightening stop screws and slots. The easiest way to adjust it is to completely remove the assembly from the plane. Trim the plane to the takeoff position. Remove the indicator cable and universal joint for the torque tube. from the topside remove all the tape from around the trim assembly and remove all the screws. remove the trim assembly. Mark or measure the position of the trim indicator nut because you have to adjust it to the same place before you put it back in. Clean the chain while you have it off. Adjust the chain tension and tighten the loose mounting screws. Put it all back together again and tape it back with aluminum tape. Quote
Yetti Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 Sometimes the mooneyspace search is not the best..... But putting this into a google search will get you where you need to be mooneyspace "trim chain" The quotes tell google to search for a phrase instead of just a word. Quote
