Lood Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 I've been asked by a friend what the standard panel tilt would be on his '68 M20C. He has to order a new AH, but has to specify the tilt. According to the retailer, the instrument can be ordered with a pre-set tilt ranging from 0 - 12 deg. He gathered from some research on the net that thestandard tilt is 8 deg, but wants be sure about that.

I measured mine four years ago using a protactor and a plumb bob on the "level" line and the panel to determine its actual tilt. Mine was 8 degrees. YMMV.

Jerry 5TJ Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 I (still) have the original instrument panels in the "C" and today I measured the panel tilt angle. There are three panel sections to measure as the pilot side panel sitll has the "fold" in the center with more tilt in the lower half compared to the upper half. I used an I-Phone app called "Tiltmeter" that I calibrated on the ground. The plastic covers were removed; the measurements were taken on the aluminum panels. During level & steady flight here's what I measured today: Pilot Upper 0 degree (that is, it is 90 degrees with respect to the horizon) Pilot Lower 14 degree (76 degrees with respect to the horizon) Copilot 14 degree
Guest Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 It should not be too difficult to determine panel tilt. Compare the angle of the face of the panel to the level point on the fuselage, usually the skin splice at the avionics access door on the left side of the fuselage. Clarence
MARZ Posted May 26, 2014 Report Posted May 26, 2014 Clarence is correct. I had the panel changed on my F. IIRC I had the AI recalibrated to 15 degrees Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
