A California resident buys an airplane from anybody anywhere and they will pay tax on it . Not only that, but it can be as much as double what some of you guys pay! Yell

If a bad broker has a really nice airplane in stock, you should still run.  That's probably one of the few reasons a bad broker can get you in the door in the first place to rake you over the coals...they don't care how nice the plane is.  Nicer plane just makes ruining you a bit easier.  It was fresh bait.

Tell ya what... just make it simple for yourself and hoof on over to AAA in San Antonio and find one from Jimmy and David's inventory. No TX sales tax for you.

They were very up front with me, and I got a great bird at a good price.

And no B.S.

You can hire someone to help bring it back home for you or one of Jimmy's staff can deliver it to you.

I don't know if things have changed since when I sold my Rocket 8 years ago. I sold it to a lawyer in San Francisco. After the prebuy in Stockton we flew together to Las Vegas where he took delivery. After he took delivery we each flew home commercially. He kept it there at North Las Vegas for some time. The sales tax was not due if it spent more than 50% out of state for a certain period of time. I remember that as being 6 months. Saved the guy over $15000 to simply store it out of state for 90 days. Unless this "loophole" has been changed you California residents need to check into it before taking delivery.

Dirty dogs, I thought if you bought something out of state or using buying off the internet (Barnstormers.com) would keep you from paying sales tax.

Technically, you're right--no state can require you to pay sales tax on a purchase made outside the state (whether the Internet is involved makes no difference).  However, they can (and do) require you to pay use tax on items used in the state, which happens to be the same rate as sales tax.

It doesn't cost you anything until you put money down. If you are concerned, (reputation, past practice) arrange your negotiations in a way that protects you. Don't accept any promises and have all the work done somewhere else.

Just remember player don't get serious until they have some skin in the game.
