DaV8or Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 A California resident buys an airplane from anybody anywhere and they will pay tax on it . Not only that, but it can be as much as double what some of you guys pay! Quote
Skywarrior Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 yep... Georgia hit me for 7% of sale price... Chuck M. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 If a bad broker has a really nice airplane in stock, you should still run. That's probably one of the few reasons a bad broker can get you in the door in the first place to rake you over the coals...they don't care how nice the plane is. Nicer plane just makes ruining you a bit easier. It was fresh bait. Quote
John Pleisse Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Quote: JimR We have to pay sales and use tax here in Florida no matter where or from whom we buy our planes as well. Good reason to buy what you want and keep it as far as I'm concerned. Jim Quote
jetdriven Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Quote: Skywarrior Tell ya what... just make it simple for yourself and hoof on over to AAA in San Antonio and find one from Jimmy and David's inventory. No TX sales tax for you. They were very up front with me, and I got a great bird at a good price. And no B.S. You can hire someone to help bring it back home for you or one of Jimmy's staff can deliver it to you. Chuck M. '91 Bravo Quote

DaV8or Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Quote: RJBrown I don't know if things have changed since when I sold my Rocket 8 years ago. I sold it to a lawyer in San Francisco. After the prebuy in Stockton we flew together to Las Vegas where he took delivery. After he took delivery we each flew home commercially. He kept it there at North Las Vegas for some time. The sales tax was not due if it spent more than 50% out of state for a certain period of time. I remember that as being 6 months. Saved the guy over $15000 to simply store it out of state for 90 days. Unless this "loophole" has been changed you California residents need to check into it before taking delivery. Quote

danb35 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Quote: Skybrd Dirty dogs, I thought if you bought something out of state or using buying off the internet (Barnstormers.com) would keep you from paying sales tax. Quote
Skywarrior Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Quote: danb35 Technically, you're right--no state can require you to pay sales tax on a purchase made outside the state (whether the Internet is involved makes no difference). However, they can (and do) require you to pay use tax on items used in the state, which happens to be the same rate as sales tax. Quote
fantom Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Amazing how "smart" CA is about GA tax collection, and they're still going broke. A sign of the times, I guess. Quote

richardheitzman Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 For those of you who are looking for a safe haven to escape the tax man I offer my services in Texas. Of course you might find 100+ hours on the aircraft by the time you get it back. Quote
