On pilot side, the yoke shaft hits the engine mount  bolt head and "hangs" a bit. nothing appears to be loose or worn,

Not always but whenever the IA checks it.

Any idea how to fix?

Do you have photo?  I'm drawing a blank now, but I'm pretty sure it should hit the stop in the aft fuselage first.  I suspect your rigging is off.

checked rigging, looks right on, IA has question.

"Why did the control surface movement change from 10 to 22 starting with S/N 690001? and on my E the shaft is close to or hits the left side of the engine mount bolt yet on a 64 C on the field it is 2 in below and left, yet both are "TIGHT"?

I had a similar problem with my M20C after the  Lycoming O 360A1D  during a  engine installation years ago. So  I turned the engine mount bolt around,  so that the head of the Engine mount  bolt in the cabin.

I wonder if this a rigging issue?  Is this something recent ?   Or Has this been the case for awhile?
